Lanes were flooded. Used the Altered Reality all night. Targeted the 5 board to get some friction but had a tight line. Too far out and it would go through the nose. Not far enough out and it would be pretty light. Speed was sensitive too. Ultimately we beat the 1st place team 2 of 3 (5-2) to take over first on our last night. Next week is playoffs.

Tonight was year end tournament. Threw a 216 in practice then moved to our league pair which were significantly heavier oil and 9 pinned all night. Tried the Helios, Altered Reality and Uppercut with the same results. 2 other teammates had the same issue and they were righties.

Subbed for first night of summer league tonight. Started out great. Summer league is 2 person teams and you bowl 2 games against the first team then move pairs then 2 more against a different team. Had my Helios drilled 90 x 2.25 x 45 but have struggled with it. We did it on purpose to try it out but you have to be perfect with it. So I hit it with a 5000D pad on the spinner the other day. Was planning on having it re-drilled to a more normal layout. So tried it tonight and was pretty happy with it. Tried it in warmups and decided to start the night with it. Nice pocket strikes all game but did have to move in about 5 boards during that game. Started out feet on 17 and targeting 6 at the arrows. After about 4 frames came in high 2 frames in a row so moved in 2 boards. Threw about 3 more frames and same thing so moved in a little more to finish the game. Game 2 much of the same but didn't have to move as much. Wasn't quite as sharp and missed too many spares. Tried my Altered reality in the fill frame and struck. Moved down to 9-10 (first 2 games were on 5-6). I don't think they oiled 7 to about 12 or 14 as we were all having the same issue. Threw my Helios on the same line and crossed over the headpin without touching it. All 4 of us on that pair had the same issue. Ironically me and my teammate both grabbed our Raw Hammer pearls on the same frame but mine was very over/under. Not sure what problem he was having. He started the night with the Zen then after a few frames switched to a red Motiv ball. After the Raw Hammer pearl he switched back to the Zen and I went back to the Helios. Moved all the way to the 30 board with my feet and targeted the 15 at the arrows and was able to hit the pocket but left the 7 pin 2 in a row and it was the end of the game by then so moved way back out to the 6 board with more speed for the 10th but went through the nose. Spare shooting was horrific. Teammate opened game 4 with the front 7 or so with the Zen. No idea if we won or not cause handicaps were based off the absent guys average. But I was happy with the 5000 on the Helios so will see how it does next time.

    Game 1: 217 (8 strikes, 1 spare, 2 opens 1 split)

    Game 2: 190 (6 strikes, 2 spares, 3 opens 1 split)

    Game 3: 146 (1 strike, 5 spares, 4 opens 1 split)

    Game 4: 140 (1 strike, 4 spares, 5 opens 2 splits)

    Series: 693

    Average 173.25

    Strikes: 37% (16/43)

    Spares: 46% (12/26)

    Single pin spares: 40% (4/10)

    Splits: 0% (0/5)

How can the handicap be based on the average of someone who isn’t bowling when you have a sub?

They're not. They have the handicaps written on the sheet but since I was a last minute sub they hand wrote my name on the sheet and didn't have my average on there to calculate the handicap. Our handicap is 80% of the difference between the 2 teams. The guy I was subbing for had a 224 book average and pretty sure mine is 192 so we would get quite a few extra pins

Look at your scores! Please, please learn how to adjust. If you can go from 217 to 140, you are not adjusting! If nothing else, remember this: oil is your friend. For years you've been posting about more surface, stronger balls, etc. As a lefty, you HAVE to learn to move right to find oil. It's an easy decision. It will be uncomfortable at first, but that's just too damn bad! Get used to finding oil and stop worrying about what's comfortable... at least if you want to improve!

I agree with you in most cases and I have been working more inside and getting more comfortable but the issue the other night was the lanes. Not sure what happened but there were 2 pairs that were bone dry. We all struggled except my teammate figuring out a line in game 4 with his Zen. We couldn't keep the ball from crossing the head pin. We bowled 2 games on one pair then moved pairs for the next 2. The 2 highest average guys in our league were on that pair before us and they both rolled around 150 their 2nd game and they are both 230 average bowlers so I'm kind of discounting those 2 games. But for the most part I have kind of given up the 6-7 board line and start out at the 2nd arrow. In my practice games I have been targeting inside the 2nd arrow all the way to the middle arrow. In fact the other night I threw 3 frames with the Helios standing on 32 and targeting 15 at the arrows. First one was slightly light so moved 2 boards left and next 2 were in the pocket but flat 7'd both of those

Well this was so pathetic I shouldn't be posting it but....
So subbed tonight for a really good team and blew it for them. Tried the Helios (short pin) and the Altered Reality tonight. Tried around the 13 board in warmups but too much oil and balls were skidding past the head pin. Moved out to the 7 board and could get back to the pocket but line was tight. Couldn't hit the pocket with the AR so used the Helios most of the night. First 2 games was striking decent but couldn't make spares. 2nd set spare shooting was much better but couldn't strike. In fact not a single strike in game 4.
But if you look I left 2 or 3 2-4-7's and about 4 or 5 6 pins and a bunch of 7's. 5/7 on 7 pins. Just a bad night. After 8 games in summer league my average is 172.37 so about 25 pins lower than my actual average. On a positive note seemed to have quite a bit more revs tonight but didn't do anything different on purpose.
We changed pairs after the first 2 games and the left lane in the 2nd set was pretty snappy. My Helios isn't very angular but in lane 19 it was snapping pretty hard until about 1/2 way through the first game in that lane. There was a higher rev lefty on that pair before us so not sure if that had anything to do with it.

I'd be surprised if they call me back to sub as bad as I was. We lost 3 of 4 tonight cause of me

Fill frame in game 3 wasn't accurate. Actually left a 7 pin but my score was wrong so just threw a 6 count in to make score right.

Well got a last minute text to sub again tonight and already on the books to sub next Tuesday night. They must be desperate...lol. But tonight was a little better and I think I know what I need to do to fix it.

Lanes seem to be a little longer pattern this summer. Can't say for sure but in warmups couldn't get much hook, even out around the 7 board. Started with the Altered Reality but struggled hard with it. Opened the first 3 frames and couldn't hit the pocket. Oh...and in warmups even got out my old Brunswick Igniter which has hardly ever failed me but it likes dry. So out of stubborness I stuck with the AR until the fill in the 10th when we had the game locked up so threw the Helios....strike. Stuck with the Helios in games 2 and 3 and rolled 221 and 228 (clean). Game 4 I stuck with the Helios again out of stubborness and struggled. I moved in a little but my accuracy started faltering. About the 8th or 9th frame switched to the Igniter and struvk my first shot with it and ended with 170. We won all 4 games so that was good.

In hindsight I shouldn't have been in the AR that far into game 1 and should have bailed on the Helios earlier in game 4. Those 2 errors ruined what could have been a very good night. rolled a 774 or so. Teammate rolled a 970ish but he is a 220-225 average.

Talked to my PSO about drilling the Zen Soul so may drop that off to him in the next day or two.

Will post my Altered reality struggles in a different thread

Finally something good to report on. Subbed again tonight and picked up my 900 Global Zen Soul. I'll check the layout tomorrow but we talked about 4.5" x 40 with about a 60* drill angle but being symetric that doesn't mean much. Pin is about right above the bridge with the CG kicked out maybe 3/4". Ball is smooth and predictable. Exactly what I wanted. Think I have my new arsenal set now. Have the Soul for fresh, Altered Reality for more angularity and the short pin Helios for dry or short patterns and if I need it bad enough I have the Raw Hammer pearl. May look to pick up something a little more aggressive to have for sport shots or heavier volume. Maybe a Gem, Reality or Nova but understand that upper end ball will hardly ever be used.

So used the Soul all 4 games tonight. Never even threw another ball except my spare ball. Position round tonight and first 2 games were against 2 220 average guys, 1 being a higher rev lefty playing my same line. Struggled with spares a little the first 2 games but managed a 209 and 182. Lost both games. Moved pairs and bowled a different team and started with the front 8 then let my speed creep up a little and left 7 pins in the 9th and 10th then slowed it back down and struck in the 12th for 268. Teammate had a 258. Last game was another clean game but struggled at the start but lucked out with a couple of Brooklyns. Covered a 2-7-8 split but not the way you normally would. Missed it by a mile but kicked the 2 off the side wall and knocked the 7 into the 8...lol to get another clean game. We won the last 2 games. I had 234 and teammate had 236.

On another note, last week guy beside me rolled a 300. Tonight same guy beside me again another 300. His teammate had a 265 for a 565 set.
