Default Made an adjustment last night and found something?

So last night in my practice games I was trying to move way right and throw way left so needed to slow my speed. In doing that I moved forward about another foot on the approach. I normally stop about 2' before the foul line at release but was getting much closer last night. My speed dropped by about .5 MPH to about 15.0 at the pins. Normally I'm at about 15.5 to 16.5. I didn't intentionally change my release but it felt like I was coming around the ball better and revs looked like they may have been a little higher but that may have been my imagination. Any reason my release would have changed because of either 1) slowing my speed or 2) moving closer to the foul line? I can't see any correlation but it was consistent all night, meaning I felt it every shot. I went back to my more traditional line once leagues started but kept my new staring position

I think Mark Baker has said that bowlers ask him to help them get a better release or more revs, he usually fixes other flaws in their approach and when he gets their timing right the release problems go away. It could be that moving up has given you better timing. Finishing closer to the foul line is always a good thing. Where I bowl the machine doesn’t seem to leave any oil on the first foot of the lane, so if I were to stop 2’ back from the line I’d have to loft the ball at least 3’ just to hit the oil. Could be that knowing you don’t have to loft it as far let’s you ease up on your grip and has it coming off your hand better.

Could be. I loft anyway but maybe it is subconsciously from whet you said. Didn't notice if I was still doing it. My balance was better at release since my speed was so much slower. I didn't intentionally do anything different with my release. Will try to get a good video next week in practice

You just answered your own question...."My balance was better at release..."

With better balance, you were able to have a better and more consistent leverage and thus a better and more consistent release. Posting a shot is one of the most dramatic effects on bowling ball motion...you rarely see the pros off balance.

Bowling is all about the relationship between ball speed and rev rate. By slowing down, you changed that relationship and may well have become more balanced than speed dominant. When those two elements are balanced, it changes how your ball reacts and may have inadvertently made your bowling ball more effective.

Might be right Rob. My rev rate is right around 300 and after slowing down I was around 15.2 at the pins. Before that I was normally closer to 16. And I bowled pretty good. Used the same ball all 3 games (Altered Reality) with my high game being game 3 (225, 180, 243-648). Game 2 wasn't cause of transition, just a few bad shots and missed spares. Only moved 1 board right all night and that was early in game 3

Another thought...I mentioned I slowed down and moved forward but forgot. As per my other thread I had used my dremel to smooth the front lip of my insert. It's possible that enabled my thumb to clear the ball better? Maybe next Tuesday I will put my other insert back in for a shot or two and see if it feels the same. If so then it was due to me moving forward and slowing down. If not then it was the modification of the insert.

It's not possible the bevel helps you get out better, it IS why lol

Remember, this insert is the new one that the new PSO drilled out with a little different pitch built in to help me get out better. I really didn't see the difference other than the nerve pinch but now that I adjusted the bevel I'm wondering if it did help? I have been going in early for 2 games of practice for the last month or so now so will test the difference between the 2 inserts. Maybe even throw a piece of tape on the ball and check my rev rate again to see if it may have increased
