Boatmans 2024-2025 season

Just got back from the no tap. Same place as last weeks tournament. Completely different results. I talked to the guy today and he said today was more of their THS but last week was closer to a sport shot. He didn't say what it was but that it was much higher volume. So today we bowled 4 games all on the same pair. I drew 19-20. The end pair. This week I took the Ember from 4000-3000 and tried it a few shots in warmups. Not great. Grabbed the Eternity Pi knowing I only needed 9 counts. Struggled a little in game 1 then tried the Ember again near the end of game 1. Game 2 went back to the Pi and changed my release and stuck with that the rest of the day. Made a couple of very minor adjustments. This was a scratch no-tap tournament.
Game 1 only had a few natural strikes and ended with a 193. Left 3 splits. After game 1 I was out of the top 12. Game 2 had maybe 6 or 7 natural strikes and had a 300. After game 2 I was tied for 10th. Game 3 I had 264. Left a split in the 3rd frame and in the fill frame. After game 3 I was in 7th. Game 4 I had the front 11 then got wide and threw a 7 for a 297. Series was 1054 (263.50 average).
There was a guy on our pair that was ahead of me. Top 12 cashed and I figured I was around 5th or so. They announced 12th, then 11th, then 10th, and so on. They got to 5th and were at about 980. They called 3rd and I think it was around 1020. Yep....2nd place. And the other guy on my pair won. He had about 1105 or so so he beat me by about 50.
Overall I spent about $90 on entry and tickets but won $120 so walked out a little ahead.
I had a 9.70 first ball average and 86% strike rate (40/46) with 4 splits. I'm aware it was no-tap so not overly excited about those stats but at least I was on the right side of the game tonight...lol. Now let's see if any of that carries over to Tuesday. I'm happy that about 95% of my shots were in the pocket today.

What a night. Started with the Pi and couldn't miss. Carry was great. Opened in the 10th for a 246. Game 2 no carry at all. Didn't change anything at first. Started making adjustments and no matter what kept leaving corner pins. Tried the Ember and again corner pins. Moved way inside with it and still left a 7. About mid-way through game 3 switched to the Altered Reality and threw about 5 in a row to win game 3 by 2 pins. We won 2 and lost one but lost total pins too.
We have 2 lefties on our team and there was a lefty on the other team throwing an assym solid that looked to have about a 500-1000 surface so I'm wondering if he killed my line?
Also, I have made about 17 7 pins in a row. Now if I could just make my 10 pins. Odd that I'd rather shoot at a 7 than a 10...lol

What a night. Started with the Pi and couldn't miss. Carry was great.

I hate that. I hate throwing 3-5 balls in warm-up and carry is great...the line looks good...then about 2-3 frames in, I start leaving 10-pins. By the time I make some adjustments and realize the best option is a ball change...I've already lost all hope of hitting my average in Game 1.

But, not a bad night. Game 1 actually was better than the score indicates given you opened in the 10th.

Well we are in 10th place of 11 teams. Tonight we bowled the 11th place team and of course they bowled great. They were about 40 over their average game 1 and about 80 over game 2. Game 3 they were 50 under so we won that one. We are still in 10th and next week is position round. We were short a bowler tonight so gave up 30 pins a game for a Blind. Wouldn't have mattered as we lost the first game by 57 and the 2nd by 107.
We were on my worst pair. I keep a spreadsheet and I'm about 5 pins lower on this pair than my average.
Tried the Pi in warmups and kept leaving back row pins. Went to the Altered Reality and looked better so started with that. About 6 or 7 frames in ball started over-hooking so tried adjusting but no luck. Tried the Ember a few frames and of course it sucked. I hate that ball. Switched back to the AR and changed wrist position to get more rotation and started hitting better.
Spare shooting was so-so. 10th frame of game 3 I did my pre-shot then grabbed my ball and started going up to my spot. Kid in the lane next to me grabbed his ball and went up to the line. I went back to the return and put my ball down and started over but screwed up my releases then chopped the spare for an open. What gets me is the kid knows better. He has been bowling in our league a couple of months. But either that shouldn't have messed me up and it probably didn't.
But yeah, that Ember so far is the worst ball I have ever bought. I'll start a new post about it.
