Skydiving is something that I had a chance to do in Hawaii but I guess you could say I sort of chickened out. However in my defense I didn't get up in time to go with the group who was going. Maybe I slept in due to all the drinking the night before. But I still would like to do it at least once in my life. Besides if I go "splat" at least it will be a way to die that will be remembered.

Got_a_300, the first plane I jumped out of wasn't perfectly ok. It flew, but it was held together with duct tape. Well, the inside was, anyway.

Depends really. If you went to fight and the fight is on the ground then there's no reason to be in the air.

My favorite pilots are the helicopter pilots. They fly INTO heavy fire to either drop us off or pick us up. The plane pilots just flew above everything and let us jump out.

haha....that's a pretty good point about pilots. My own experience is only with helicopter pilots. Some I have met are cool and some are really A*******. But that can be said about any officer in the military.

Arrogance is a special class they teach during pilot training. The movie Top Gun didn't do justice to the arrogance of pilots that I experienced. I didn't have to many officer worries. The Colonel kept us without a Lieutenant. Said he was worried one would ask something stupid and I would shoot him. The only one we had lasted less than a week. One of my guys had this moron convinced that OD green socks had a left and right. No way I was letting someone that stupid give orders. That same training exercise I shot the company commander (laser gear) for failing to stop for the challenge and password. We became battalion controlled real quick. After that incident the Colonel made my section the opposition forces for the exercise. We attacked the whole battalion when they had a formation the last day. Not sure why but we were the only ones that found it funny. I told them before we went that I took training seriously before we went. I had been placed there 12 hours before we left.
When we got to the Gulf another team Sargent and the Sargent Major ended up on the wrong side of the perimeter on day 1. All I could see was shadows of two people. I was locked, loaded and about to pull the trigger (they wouldn't answer my assistant gunner) when I heard and recognized their voices. I told them how close they were to death and these jerks got mad at me! I was where I was suppose to be, they weren't. I explained that's why my platoon had over 300 missions to one for him and that a Sargent Major should be more careful about who he walks an armed perimeter with.
