    Smile Bowling Tips

    The Bowling Shoe - Bowling Shoes are required. Regulation Bowling Shoes are specially designed for approaches. For your Safety, Street Shoes are not allowed.

    Selecting A Ball - If you are unsure about the correct weight, a desk personnel will assist you. Put your fingers in first - up to the 2nd knuckle. Then your Thumb goes in. Your thumb should go all the way into the ball for a good fit. The fingers and thumb should touch all the way around the holes without being tight.

    How To Hold The Ball - Cradle the ball gently in your free hand. Thumb and middle two fingers go into the holes. Thumb should point upward. Aim for your target. A good starting point is the 2nd arrow.

    Where To Stand - Start at the foul line facing away form the pins. Take 4 1/2 normal walking steps and turn around facing the pins. Do not look at the floor while walking. This should be the correct distance for a four-step approach. Pick up the ball with two hands. Start withy one foot on one of the spots on the approach, preferably the center spot or the one to then right. Stand at the same spot each time you deliver your first ball. Don't move around. Left foot slightly forward. Body weight mostly on foot opposite ball. Align toe or inside of either foot on one of the dots on the approach. Heels firmly on the approach. Feet separated about 1 to 4 inches with both feet pointing straight towards the target. LEFT-HANDED BOWLERS REVERSE THE PROCEDURE DESCRIBED FOR RIGHT-HANDED BOWLERS.

    Stance - The hips and shoulders should be squared at the target, not an an angle. Elbows next to the body. Ball hip height. Knees slightly bent.

    How To Take Your Steps

    STEP ONE: PUSH AWAY

    push the ball out and down. slight after the push away step out with your right foot.

    STEP TWO: PENDULUM SWING

    as you take your second step, the ball swings down and back. the left arm extends out to the side for balance. swing the arm naturally, without force.

    STEP THREE: BACK SWING

    don't bend your elbow. ball is no higher then shoulder or waist high. ball is now at the top of your back swing.

    STEP FOUR: SLIDING

    watch the target. thumb comes out of the ball first. lift the ball with fingers. balance with sliding foot until the ball hits the pins. foot-knee-shoulder in straight line.

    FOLLOW THROUGH

    don't stop your arm let it swing on up. left arm extended for balance. hips and shoulders squared towards the target. don't open your hand when releasing the ball.... keep your fingers in the grip postion.
