Default See the House shot under blacklight

These pictures were taken under ultra-violet lighting and enhanced in the computer.

This is a pretty basic league/ "house" condition. Right from the heads (part of the lane closest to the foul line) you can see "dry" boards on the outside. They are not dry, but there is visibly less oil in this area. This is especially visible in the second picture (computer enhanced with light green showing the heaviest oil). The oil is heaviest in the centre, protecting it, but large areas of dry outside allow almost anyone to hook the ball. This is a very high scoring condition.

Without the black lights, it's generally easier to see the pattern standing at the pin deck and looking back towards the foul line. Some houses will allow you to walk down the lane next to end lanes if you ask nicely. If you strike up a conversation with the head mechanic (s)he may even volunteer to take you down there and show you what is going on.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Is there a credit that comes with them?

I've been under blacklight conditions (not by choice, surprise, after we paid for the hours) and was unable to see it. It must work better under enhancement.

You can see it on a fresh stripped and oiled lane better. Also some lanes have a built in glow material which can also make it harder to see because it makes the whole lane glow then.I've seen it and it is hard to see, but it can be seen with out the black light also.

A experiment I tried along while ago was looking at a ball under blacklight, to see if you could see the oil track in the ball coverstock. It needs to be a ball thats not been used much,(preferably a solid color like black) but you could see a glowing track, its faint but was there.
