PBA patterns

I'm bowling a Pro Am in August and I found out the pattern is the senior pattern #5. My mom has a kegel machine for our center....but the head mechanic (and all mechanics under him) is not the brightest crayon in the box. I don't think he has a clue how to put down anything besides our typical house shot.

I'd like to practice on that pattern before I go to the tournament. Are there any websites that would provide information on programing the pattern into the machine?
I've also heard that you have to run the machine to strip the oil a couple times before putting down a house shot? Our old mechanic put down some pba patterns and then oiled the entire house a few days later....and I've heard that he screwed all the lanes up with torrential amounts of oil.

Any information would be appreciated. I'd like to be able to practice without the mechanic screwing up the shot on the rest of the house.

I know that you can get some information from the PBA website. I remember a thread not to long ago on our forum I believe in the ProShop section that they were talking about oil patterns and specs. I think there were some links in there. Hope this helps.

Length: 35 feet
A fast and dangerous pattern.

Description: Senior Pattern #5 measures 35 feet in length and is the shortest of the five patterns. Sometimes used on lane surfaces that are well worn, it tries to maximize the area on the lane with less wear, which is usually extemely close to the gutter. Because of this, players tend to migrate toward those spots to take advantage of the more pristine surface areas

that description for the Senior Pattern #5 sounds just the one for the cheetah pattern

I'm anxious to try the pattern out. 35 ft is awfully short....the ball is going to be breaking early. I need to see what my virtual gravity is going to do on it

I did some searching and seen a couple of posts saying that #5 was similar to the cheetah pattern. so I'd say start by playing it like that, tiull you see how it is. I used my storm pyro on the cheetah standing right, playing around 5 at the arrows. Basically down and in. in a regional pro-am and did good.

This gives you the exit point of the pattern and is part of determining a base target line.
once you have that you also need the slide point. take that number and add 7 (for most bowlers) this will be the slide point.

In this case 35-31= the 4 board, the exit point. So 4+7= 11 the slide point.

this article was before the "Lane Play: Moving Smart & Often" one. the formula in it was (pattern length - 35 + 4 = where the ball should exit) they simplified it by taking the -35+4 part and making it just pattern-31.
They have a chart for it and also see the 4 rules.
