I've always heard that the Vibe series are seriously overlooked, a lot of ball for the price point. Glad you're liking it. The move up in weight will help the scores get better since you'll be deflecting the pins more than the ball.
Anyone interested in the Onyx Vibe. I bought the ball and I love it. It's a lot stronger on the back end than the Cherry Vibe. Has a really nice hook. Great ball for the price. I moved up in weight I went from a 12# to a 14#. I really like the weight change too. I've got to build up my arm, but over all I am very satisfied.![]()

There was a guy a couple of Gatherings ago that had one of the Vibes and it had a really nice move for him. I'd try out Hammer, but I don't want to do the dance. (Can't touch this.)
Hey Janet- You don't see a big difference in going from a 12lb to 14? I went from a 12- to a 13 and I felt a big difference.

My first few shots where heavy. My speed is down but it's picking up. I get better pin count with the 14#. I was more tired Friday night after league. But my first game with the 14# was 146 which isn't too bad with the weight change I don't think. Yesterday I bowled Five games with it. My average with the five games was 141. It just takes time to get use to I guess.
I'm still having to adjust to the ball hooking more. The guy in the Pro Shop said he would help me, he's busy a lot, but I know when he has time he'll show me some stuff.

I've been going back and forth between my 12lb Lane #1 ball and my 13lb Roto Grip Cell. Sometimes the lanes are so dry me and Kevin have to use our spare balls because our regular balls just hook off the lane. Oh well it's a learning process.

Our lanes during league have been really oily, but today the lanes were bone dry. I know what you mean about learning every time I think I figure something out. I have to do something different. I need a spare ball. I have one but it is 10lbs and it's way too light for me.

Sometimes that just the necessary adjustment. You can still score with a pancake-core plastic ball.
Jan - giving a ball more room to hook can be as simple as a slight change in visualization. It sounds like you are comfortable playing what is traditionally known as a "down and in" shot, meaning that when you release the ball, it is moving parallel to the gutter. The ball travels straight down the lane for a bit, then hooks into the pocket. Playing a slight or even moderate "swing" means that when you release the ball, it is moving towards the gutter. However, the mechanics of both shots (down-and-in and swing) are identical if your bowling-arm shoulder is used to point to your target. For down-and-in, your shoulder is "square" to the foul line, for a swing, the shoulder points to your target which "opens" the shoulder slightly at an angle away and to the right of the foul line.
Any chance of making the Gathering? Coach Ron Clifton is a wonder at helping bowlers at any level.

No, Not at this time. I just learned about it at this site. I have family in that area. Not sure they bowl or not, I don't talk to them much. Both sets of my grandparents were from NC, they are all passed. But I still have aunts and uncles up there as well as cousins. I'm just not close to them because I was born and raised in Alabama. My parents are from NC. Maybe My husband and me can go one year.![]()
