    Default First bowling ball...sore thumb

So I got my first ball drilled yesterday and I bowled 2 games last night and 2 today. My bowling thumb started hurting about mid way through my first game, and now it is in quite a bit of pain when pressure is put on it. It hurts on right above my 1st knuckle on the inside. It hurts too much to even think about bowling for a few days. I feel as if my thumb hole is too loose and might be what is causing the pain. Should I have the hole re drilled, or what? Or could it be anything else causing the pain? Something needs to change because bowling is not enjoyable with this much pain...

You should take the ball back to the pro shop and have them double-check the hole size, span, pitch, and bevel.

I agree with the above post, and bowling is way to much fun to miss out on. Good luck and good bowling

If you feel like it's too loose it most likely is. As was mentioned above go back to the shop and have them check things out. It may be something as simple as adding a piece or 2 of tape
Still love the game but had to quit because of my left leg amptation

I'd bet if too loose and you're squeezing the hell out of the ball.If you have ti put more than a few pieces of tape i it, get it redrilled

it sounds like the problem i was having by my thumb not coming out of the ball first upon release and i developed a calous on the side of my thumb which was causing me problems and pain. i seem to have taken care of the problem by asking on this site the other day. now instead of cupping the ball , i have flattened out my release( killing the shot) or like flicking it out and with a longer follow through ( instead of cutting up through the ball).....i never felt any pressure on my thumb today as i was bowling and i averaged 197.5 for the 4 games. i fell down to a 176 prior to the new release too and now thanks to you guys, i feel confident i will be up there with the rest of the bowlers on my scratch league.
