    Default New but taking seriously

    Hello All,
My name is Dave. Recently gotten into Bowling and love it. Had my first lesson last weekend and had a blast. Got my own ball "Columbia 300 Freeze" and trying to practice at least three days a week. Wanting to someday join a league but content learning on my own at this time. Theres a TON of information on this site and I intend to take full advantage of it. I`m 36yrs old and smart enough to take advice from anyone whatever the age if they know more about a subject than I do. Thank you for your time...

Welcome to the site Dave. Remember, there is no such thing as a dumb question. Anything you want to know, I'm sure someone here will have the answer.

Dont wait to join a league! Half the fun of learning to bowl is having fun doing it. And by joining a league you kill two birds with one stone. You will get better as you bowl but make friends and above all HAVE FUN. Welcome

I understand what you mean but I feel I need to be able to "hold my own" on a team. Right now I am very inconsistent. Hopefully it wont take long. Example: My last practice I bowled a 149 149 96. I just need more practice hitting my mark and spares. That and I don't really have any Bowler friends so I would have to join an existing team or something like that. I don't want to be "that guy" on the team just yet Thanks

Thats what there are handicap leagues. There are several bowlers in my Thursday league who average now in the 130's. The beginning of the year they had trouble breaking 100. They are fun to be around, and they are having fun and learning at the same time. Don't worry about holding your own. Join a league and have fun learning the sport we all here love.

Listen to PSBA10, you will get better as you bowl but remember that handicapped leagues are made to give even the lowest average bowler a chance to beat the best. I would rather bowl a guy that averages 230 than a guy that averages 130 because on any given day the 130 bowler can string a couple together and kill me. Where as the 230 bowler has to be on his game all the time. Hang aroud the alley and just sub (free bowling) and then next year put out that you are looking to get on a team permenantly. There are always going to be people giving you advice and I am going to be one....Listen to what everyone has to say. The more people that repeat the same statement its probably true. When it sounds far fetched it usually is...

Thanks guys. I`ll look into it. I think a new league is starting in April. We`ll see if I can get in.
