This sounds fishy, the usbc would lose almost everyone. Is this on bowl.com anywhere?
Last night a USBC rep. in our area (who was not amused by this) explained to me a pilot program that USBC is putting into place called the "Blanket Certification Fee." This fee is to replace the national dues that is usually apart of your USBC Card fee. This national fee last season was $10. According to the rep. and the literature he possessed, the new system will charge bowlers $12 per league they bowl in. The bowler will pay the $12 over the course of the bowling season with an increase in their weekly fee. The leagues will pay USBC a "one time" fee of $12 per bowler in the league.
This is for "basic" membership. You'll have to upgrade the fee to $20 per league in order to be eligible for honor awards like 11 in a row, 298, 299, 300, 800 etc...
Shame on USBC for springing this so close to the fall season, for not cutting off the top of their corporate behemoth to save money rather than jamming it to the league bowler, and for trying to sell this as a "good thing" for bowlers. Its a money grab, plain and simple. Discouraging!

This is insane. If this is close to the truth, I may have to get as many people together as I can in Ga. to protest this. Its hard now to fill a league with people. Things are tough right now and they are going to charge per league. Bite Me USBC.
I don't think its true. There was no dues increase voted in by the USBC delegates. I think I know where this story came from. It's something taken out of context and some facts changed from this story.
USBC Annual Fees: A Raging Debate by James Goulding III
Look at this part:
Give bowlers three different cost options when they sanction with the USBC. The first, and cheapest, option is to pay for basic USBC services minus the awards program. You would only pay something in the range of $10 like it is now, you would get recognition of your achievement in the USBC’s database, but not receive any actual award from the USBC for what you accomplish. The second option would be an upgraded $15 annual fee, and that entitles you to the current awards system that is in place. You get (1) of each type of award per season, all the benefits of USBC sanctioning, a subscription to US Bowler magazine, and basically keep things the way they are in the current system. The last option would be an upgraded $20 sanctioning, and that gets you (2) of any award, a subscription to US Bowler magazine, first choice of bowling dates and times for the USBC National Tournament over the $10 or $15 crowd, and all the other benefits that USBC sanctioning has to offer.

I'll post the evidence when I scan it. It was a USBC pamphlet outlining a pilot program here in Reno NV. I suppose its on its way nationally if successful. As you can imagine none of us are pleased.
This is my problem with this Blanket Certification Fee. No votes by us here in Reno, just materials distributed to reps. explaining this program. Its being billed as a "good" thing as bowlers would not have to pay the first night for their cards which I suppose is true for the bowler who is in one league, but for multiple league bowlers, this is just a way to impose a fee increase!
I talked to people in my summer league. A lot of unhappy people. Please let it be a misunderstanding. It seems to me that something of this nature should been cause for debate on the local and national level.![]()
Big Dog, Bowl1820... UPDATE FROM RENO... I got the rest of the story on the Blanket Certification fee. USBC put together a proposed pilot program to use in the Greater Reno Sparks Bowling Association that had tiered membership levels based on if bowlers wanted honor awards etc.. It also had had a per league Certification fee... Luckily, the same week, the Proprietors in town made there voices heard in opposition for such a pilot program. Our association told USBC to find another location to test!
I apologize if I ruffled feathers unnecessarily but what I saw and heard was extremely disturbing to the sport I love.
