Bowling Adage

I recently picked up a home made bowling-theme novelty lamp.
On it is a saying with some letters missing and I'm hoping some of you old time bowlers can help me fill in the blanks. Here's what we have: "Old bowlers never die they just _ _ g _t up." The second word may actually be missing two letters. Ant thoughts? I'm trying to rehab the item into salable condition. Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for a three letter word ending in "g" to go in the phrase as indicated above. I guess this may have been personal to the maker but I'm hoping that this crowd can come up with some obscure bowling term for me. Alas, I am only a casual bowler.
