hello my name is paul a new member i began bowling end of 2009 at the start of 2010 I got my first ball, it is a ebonite lane breaker 15 lb I have good rotation on this ball, speed 18-19 mph, this ball gives me good mid lane travel with a progressive arc to the pocket Avg 160 have bowled a few 200+.Normal lane position 20 board 2nd arrow depending on conditions this is changed to 26 & 3rd arrow or 16 & 1st arrow.Normal lane conditions Med, oil

My question is this,As a new bowler I am looking to make the next step up my ball is a good mid range ball what ball do you advise in the top range of balls that will allow me to take this step.Looking at ebonite Vital sign would be greatful of any advice or help in this matter

If you have a good relationship with your local pro shop owner I would have a discussion with him, especially if you primarily bowl competetively in only 1 house... If they know how you throw the ball (if not, they should be willing to watch you throw a game) they will likely be able to point you in the right direction... There are usually a good range of balls that have similar specifications to them, so they may be able to give you the most similar options for what you are looking for and not have you go blow a ton of money on something that may or may not work for you....

It depends on what you are looking for. These are two very different types of bowling balls. The Vital sign is a mid range hooking ball. It hooks fairly early on the lane and is going to be more of an arc then the black widow Nasty. The black Widow Nasty in general will go farther down lane before it starts to hook, but it will hook a ton. It will give you a very skid flip reaction.

If you are looking for something different from your lane breaker I would go with the vital sign. If you are looking for something similar to the lane breaker but more, then I would go with the Black Widow Nasty.

thanks chris for your reply currently looking at a few opitions as i nave only bowled with a ebonite I see the game breaker has sold well a few guys at the lanes bowl storm the reign and prodigy have had good reviews.
on a change of tack with so many ball makers out there in your veiw who are the top 2 and why

Every bowling ball company has their own look and feel to the reaction. I have thrown bowling balls from hammer, storm, roto grip, and brunswick. There are many more companies then these though.

Hammer in general has a very hard back end reaction.
Storm/Roto grip are in the middle of everything.
Brunswick in general is very smooth and rolling.
Columbia 300 in general is a strong smooth roll.

I am sure there are more characteristics of each company then these.

I would probably say my favorite two companies are storm/roto grip and Hammer. I did not like brunswick. Track has been spotty for people that I have talked to about them. Same thing with Columbia 300. I haven't seen anything good from Motiv. Although I have seen decent things from 900 Global and Morich.

There are a lot of good products on the market. I prefer Columbia 300 because of it roll. I am a stroker/tweener. I dont like Brunswick at all. I gave away a ball I won. Did not even drill it. A lot of my friends use Storm. Especially the Virtual balls. Gravity/Energy mainly. Check on the internet for video ball reviews comparing the different balls. Also watch the form of the bowler to get as close to yours as you can. Good luck.

Hey RPM welcome to the site, as for ball choices I would recomend the advise of Bigbowler76. As far as Brunswick and motive I own both and wouldn't swap them for any thing. The Ultra zone revs fast goes long and hits hard, real hard. As for the SR2 I've only had it about 2 weeks, but so far it's been a great ball.

i've always heard different people/styles match up with different companies... well if i had to choose 1 company to go with right this second it would have to be storm/roto grip. but i also have stuff from lane 1 ,hammer and soon to be motiv. just starting out i'd get a usbc coach and take a few lessons.(i want too as well) even the pros use coaches,talk with him about ball and line choices.also drilling is soo important,im finding out late in the game how much drilling can affect your game.

as im rambling ill stop but all ball companies have good stuff.have a usbc coach or a pro shop guy watch you throw some frames and they can get ya lined out. best of luck to ya and remeber too have fun!!
