Thread: Oil training

Has anyone requested unknowingly to have your public/military bowling alleys set a lane to a specific oil condition to practice on? for instance; wall street, middle of the road, kegel etc..

Would anyone know the cost to equipment/labor something like this for a pair of lanes?

My guess is that most alleys would be reluctant to do this for an individual. Its mainly that it takes time to set the machine for a particular pattern, and then change back to the normal house shot. Your best bet for practice would be to bowl after a sport league. If you really get lucky, they might oil an extra pair in case a lane breaks down and you might get to bowl on the fresh pattern instead of what it evolves into after three or four games.

It depends alot on the type of lane machine in use. Many of todays lane dressing machines are microprocessor based machines. If the center has one of these machines it is only a matter of pushing a few buttons to set-up the machine provided the oil pattern is stored in memory.

The problem comes in when someone will be pulled away from his regular duties to put down your special shot. Personally I have a very good relationship with the proprietor where I bowl. Several times over the years he has put a specific shot down for me. Normally it was the advertised shot for the USBC Nationals. Once others found out about it, we had 15 to 20 bowlers practicing on the shot. So the proprietor actually made out in the long run.
