it could be the arthritis thing creeping in or just too much lift....if there is a thing of too much lift?
I've been bowling for about 15 years, and about a few years ago I started getting a pain in my ring finger (I'm left-handed) whenever I release. To compensate, I've had to place that ring finger outside of the hole much moreso than I would like to. So my middle finger will be in as usual but my ring finger is barely holding on. As for the pain, it's hard to describe. I'll sometimes accidentally place my ring finger in too much and the second that ball lets go I feel the pain right at that fingertip knuckle.
Anyone have any idea what this could be and what I can do to fix it? Sorry I don't have much description on the ball, I just don't know all that much about drilling.

I would recomend talking to you ball driller, and getting the finger checked out. One thing is for sure, pain is a warning sign that something's not right. Good luck.
Good luck and good bowling

More likely than not, you need to have more away pitch in that finger. My guess is that you probably have an old school ball driller that put inward pitch on your fingers. It is sometimes done to help people get lift or if the ball is too heavy for the person it will help them hold onto the ball. The average person needs about 1/8" away pitch to be comfortable. I have a not so flexible hand, so my away pitch is 13/16" away on my middle finger and 7/8" away on my ring finger.
I suggest telling your pro shop guy, and finding out what he/she thinks. If the pain is in the finger nail, or in the knuckle, it will most likely be a need for another 1/8" to 1/4" away pitch. Good luck!
