Thread: Why Do You Bowl?

    Default Why Do You Bowl?

I know the answers to this already, but I'd like to know the reasons behind why people enjoy this sport so much...

I have a few reasons. One is that I've always enjoyed bowling. Ever since my first trip to an alley I've always held respect for the game and enjoyed every time I've bowled.

It also reminds me of my grandfather, every time I bowl. He was on leagues for years, and I'm willing to bet he bowled 300 at least once in his lifetime. He had plaques (two of which I have in my room at this moment), trophies, and a USBC-issued watch. He's gone on to be with the Lord now, but bowling at the same alley he bowled for years always brings back good memories.

There is something extremely satisfying about the sound and fury of a good strike. There's always room to do better, so it doesn't get old to me. My dad was a good bowler and passed his love of the game to me. Life took me away from it for 17 years, but I'm back now.

I used to bowl as a social thing. Just get together and heave a 10 pound ball...not caring if I did sub 75 games. Now, I'm addicted to it. Rolling 150-250s...shooting for that 300. The sound of the pin deck exploding is an amazing sound. I love it. When it's saturday night and we sweep the lanes for oiling on sunday morning, the sound of 320 pins banging into each other just sounds awesome. I love it. Not to mention, it's a hell of a workout.

I started back in elementary school just as a social thing and have gone from time to time since then with no 200's in my mind; just to beat my friends was my only goal. About 9 months ago I really started to get into bowling and to me, I think it is also the sound of pins exploding on a strike that really gets my blood pumping. And like Paralipsis said, "its a hell of a workout."

Something has to be said about rolling a 200+ game when you average 150/60 every weekend. Your adrenaline gets going. This past weekend I rolled a 241. I was quite giddy after that. Highest game I've rolled so far in my 1 year of league play. Changed my line in the 3rd game, and damn I'm happy I did.

I grew up in a bowling family. My grandparents, mom, aunt and uncle, all bowled. It was just natural that I ended up bowling. I bowled in youth leagues from the age of 7-16. I gave it up for school and other sports and just bowled once in a while. After about 16 years away from serious bowling I am in my first adult league. It is fun, but I'll always remember the competition of the Saturday Morning youth leagues and tournaments.

I still enjoy it, and I'm decent with a 195 average. Started the first few weeks with a 210 average. That was exciting and I hope to evenually be able to sustain that average.

It's fun and there was nothing really else to do around my town at the time when I started back in highschool. Boredom set in, one thing led to another, a couple years went by and I was in love with it.

Cause it's fun - Also you have so many little side goals aside from just winning the game.

I like to explode the pins - that sound is like no other and kind of reminds me of a rifle shot.

I don't know how to describe it, but it's like a personal accomplishment every time you bowl, no matter how good you bowled the game before you always want to do better. And there's no better feeling than a strike, except for stringing them together. Hard to believe that a heavy round ball with 3 holes in it can be so addictive.
    Good luck and good bowling

i bowl for the self accomplishment, knowing that you were able to improve from the game before, the week before, and the year before.

also their is the friendships that are born on the lanes.
