Thread: Absolutely Terrible Finish

    Default Absolutely Terrible Finish

I started in the first 2 games with a 176 and a 223. Rolled a 137, I think, in the third game. The double gutter in the 2nd frame is what did it for me, then blowing the 10th frame. It's been a great weekend. I ended up punching the ball return hood as hard as I could at the end of that game. Average for the day was above my average, but just slightly.

I think this thread belongs in the Post Your Bowling Scores thread... but on topic, I don't like your sportsmanship. Sure we all have our bad games, but they're exactly that, games. Don't let one bad one make you look like a fool in front of your peers, showing your temper can really show people another side of you.

I guess what I'm trying to say is just have fun, if you bowl bad, just put in some practice and come back next week and kick its butt. It's only a game.

I agree with Drano. The ball return didn't make you throw a double gutter or blow the tenth frame.

On the other hand, assuming your breakpoint was out around the three board, a double gutter isn't really that bad. Many, if not most, bowlers will over-correct after a gutterball and either go through the nose or go Brooklyn.

I'll admit, my sportsmanship was quite terrible that day. Built up stress, potential 1st place standing at stake, and a terrible 3rd game caused me to snap. I felt bad after it. Apologized to the league director, a few parents, and my bosses (bowling center manager & the owner).

EDIT: Moved to general bowling discussion.

Have to agree with the other guys. Punching stuff only gets you 2 things, a bad reputation and a sore (or even worse) hand. Think about why you blew the 10th and practice that. It's hard to learn from mistakes when anger takes over you.

Sometimes it's really difficult to maintain your composure when you know that you have more potential than you are showing. I have always been very hard on myself when it comes to sports, but when you step back and look at bowling, it's still a game.

    Just a game.

You have to learn to laugh at it, because anger just isn't effective either during or after the fact. Know now that you've used up your get out of jail free card and everyone will be waiting for you to explode. Some people will attempt to goad you into it. Realize it for the attempt to screw with your head that it is, and relax. The "explosion waiting to happen" isn't the best reputation one can get, either. If you have to hit something hit yourself. In private. You know you're better than to let the monster out in public.
