Having Issues With My Release
Earlier today I bowled on a burnt up Viper oil pattern and as per the norm, someone who's never bowled on it before struggled. That was me. But it's a regular thing nowadays. I go in to bowl, and I'm terrible. I average in the 160's which isn't that good but still. I have 1 bowling ball that's drilled for finger time and two that are drilled conventionally. To make a long story short, I don't know if it's the weight of the finger tip ball or just me being terrible, but I can no longer control that ball. I grab one of the two conventional gripped balls, and I do much better. I can't figure it out. I don't know if it's the fact that my reactive conventional is less aggressive or if it's because it's lighter. I just can't control it. What could I be doing wrong?
No Mercy - 15lb, finger tip (I think my span is off even though it was drilled to match my hand, and the pin is to far off from my fingers)
Rattler - 14lb, conventional
Viz-A-Ball - 14lb, conventional
Things I'm going to try:
1) Slowing down my release
2) No longer gonna mussel the ball
3) Gonna let my fingers cause the rotation
What I think is causing the problem:
1) Rushing my release
2) Trying to hook it instead of letting my grip due the work
3) Musseling the ball down the lane instead of letting the ball do the work
I'm trying to crank the ball. But here's the thing, after being called an asshole for throwing my Ultra Slip powder bag at my girlfriend and getting mad over it, I started heaving the ball (rattler) down the lane with higher revs and ball speed and I did much better. I can't figure it out. I'm gonna try and get in there next tuesday and wok on a fresh THS and see what happens.
Anyone have some tips? I'm starting to get frustrated over it.

Are you using the slide powder on your thumb?

I do from time to time use the slide powder on my thumb, especially when it starts swelling up. Lately, i haven't needed it.
In my minds eye, the best bet for me would be to get my other two balls plugged and re-drilled.

You're right. Throwing the 2 with conventional grip is keeping you from advancing with the fingertip. Bowling is about consistency. Whether it's the fit of your ball, your pre-shot routine, your approach, where you target on the lane, where you stand for each spare needs to be the same each time. Switching between grips is killing that consistency.

I also know that I need to drop back down to 14lbs. The 15lb no mercy which is my finger tip ball, wears me out pretty fast.
Bowled using ONLY the viz-a-ball and the no mercy today and I rolled:
130 - Practice/Warmup
169
220
165
I used the no mercy more than I did the viz-a-ball for spares. Pattern was a broken down THS (about a day and a half old). Using the no mercy for spares did hurt me due to it's high reactivity. Spares on the left side are easy as pie to get with it, right side spares are much more difficult. I had to open my wrist up to flatten out my hand in order to decrease my rev rate. I sit around 300-350 and when you're rolling at about 17mph on a broken down pattern with a pro performance ball shooting for the 10 pin, I cranked my speed up to around 20, dropped my revs to the low 200s, and narrowed my axis of rotation majorly. All in all, if I really worked on it and my wrist cooperated with me, I could be a one ball guy SO LONG AS there is some oil on the lane.
