ball recommendations
Hi Everyone
I had stopped bowling about 7 years ago and just got back into bowling. It appears bowling ball technology has advanced quite a bit during this time so I am thinking about changing out all of my old 16lb balls for 15s.
My current, but very old, equipment:
- Storm Trauma Response ER (use for heavy oil lane conditions) - my main ball for oily lanes
- Columbia ICON 2 (use for oily lane conditions)
- Columbia Messenger B/S/P (use for dry lane conditions) - i like this ball a lot
- Black Hammer, polished (10-pin shooting) - yes, it is about 30 years old but does what I need it to do
I am guessing that for heavy oil, I will go with the popular Nano, but what would be good choices for the medium and dry shots?
Thanks

Welcome to the site! Yes, technology has changed a lot. Bowling balls are becoming more and more aggressive and there are a lot more choices.
An arsenal of Storm VG NANO, Storm Victory Road and Storm Tropical Breeze would be awesome. This will cover basically every lane condition you will find (especially house shots).
Some other choices that would fill these categories would be:
Heavy Oil: Motiv Raptor P7, 900 Global Bank Roll, DV8 Hell Raiser
Medium: Storm Reign Supreme, Roto Grip Bandit, Motiv QZ2 Backdraft, Brunswick Loaded Revolver, DV8 Reckless
Light: Motiv Recon RX1 Silver, 900 Global Hook!
If you have any questions about any of these, let me know!

I think the best idea would be to buy one 15lb ball to start, let a pro shop guy watch you bowl and record your info (revs, speed, PAP, etc) and then go from there to fill out the rest of your equipment.
You'll get much better results that way than to blindly drill 4 balls. I would actually start with a "dry" ball since that's the cheapest and you have less to lose if it isn't drilled to your strengths.

Thanks. I was already planning to start with one 15lber first. I did have a 15lb ball Blue T Boss a long while ago when I started to get tired. It did well, but just didn't hit the same as a 16. Of course, that was before balls got a whole lot better.
