Thread: Question about oil pattern

  1. #1

    Default Question about oil pattern

Not sure what pattern this is!! ....It causes any reactive ball (solid or Pearl ) to ride an oil line like a barrier, The ball cannot cross the oil line while playing down the boards, and it burns up while riding such oil line until it loses axis tilt, and rotation, and speed until the ball rolls out and rolls forward!! ...I know this makes no sense.

Trying to play inside is not good either!! Playing down 9 Board with Rubber was the only thing that worked!! Plain urethane didn't work good either!! Rubber Ball only!!

    Games:
    (1) 170 ....Using Reactive Pearl burning up really bad, and this ball is a pearl made for dry lanes!!!!

    (2) 175 ....Same ball as above.

Games 3,4 ...I switched to an old school rubber ball and rolled the ball down the 9 board.

    (3) 215

    (4) 240

The Rubber ball worked!! ....where as nothing else was reacting as it should.

My Question is this.....Anyone else seen this? If so what oil pattern could this be?

Even though I know a lot about oil patterns....This one is new to me, and had me scratching my head.

Just wondering if anyone has any clue to what or which it might be. The lanes are Brunswick Pro Anvil and the lane machine is Kegel ( older Model Roller type ) They claim to be putting out the PBA experience, and Kegel Sport Challenge.

Other bowlers around me are also confused, some are mad as they will not use a Rubber ball!!

It sounds like extreme carrydown to me. Your pearl for dry lanes was straight enough to get through the oil but when it hit the oil on the backend, just rolled out. It's possible the rubber ball started hooking just early enough for you to find a line that would work.

Thanks Mayor...That sounds like it, only it's like this on a fresh shot with stripped backends.

Now I'm wondering if maybe there lane machine is starting to have problems. It is getting old and who knows if anyone keeps it in check.

I just thought maybe they changed the pattern due to scoring being too high, and fall league just started.

We haven't had an easy THS since I worked there. The owner died and the place was sold, ever since then a lot has changed but not actually for the better.

At least they do have PBAX and Sport leagues now. ...Where as when I worked there it was Easy THS only for most part except when the PBA came to town, or city tournaments...etc.

It definitely could be that the oil machine isn't stripping the backends or they aren't emptying/cleaning the tanks properly
