How much does your league pay each week? I think a good rule to go by is that first place (possibly 2nd) should always get back at least as much as they've put in to the league. There are really two schools of thought: 1. Fairly evenly distributed across the board with not a huge gap between 1st and last (generally less competitive leagues) and 2. Top loaded with the first 2 or 3 spots getting the majority of the money and the bottom places not getting much back.

I've done a lots of prize lists, the two schools of thought "Fairly evenly distributed" and "Top loaded" the mayor said are right.

But for the first place team to get all of their money back(if you mean by that lineage, sec fee etc.), it is almost impossible unless you had a lot of extra money added to the prize fund or you make the list so top heavy the people at the bottom get nothing or almost nothing. Now if you mean just what they payed into the prize fund, that's easier

Also are there any individual prizes? or is it just team payouts?

The best compromise is in between the two, the top just high enough so the top teams will want to work for it and the bottom with enough so that the lower teams feel they got something at least.

On the league here with 32 four man teams, at $15 a night ($4.50 of that goes to to prizefund) for 34 weeks ($510 for the season) we have a $21,000 prize fund. the first place team will get back $1232 ($308 per man). that.s about 2/3 of what they payed in. 2'nd place is about half what they payed in. Last place will get $400 ( $100 a man).

Here's a quick list I came up with using $1900 and 10 teams of 2.(no individual prizes)

    Pos.-Payout-per Player
    1-$348.00-$174.00
    2-$294.00-$147.00
    3-$248.00-$124.00
    4-$211.00-$105.50
    5-$181.00-$90.50
    6-$157.00-$78.50
    7-$137.00-$68.50
    8-$121.00-$60.50
    9-$107.00-$53.50
    10-$96.00-$48.00

if you want you can try my prize list spreadsheet to get a start. it has a sheet for 10 teams. get it here ( used it on the medium distribution setting for the above example)

As a side note the big mEns league here runs a extra prize fund in addition to the regular prizefund, that teams can buy into if they want. ($20 a night per team) it has a very top heavy prize list. This has worked out real good if your at the top you can make what you payed in or more.

I mentioned this because several of the higher teams, were not satisfied with the payouts of the regular prizelist.

They wanted a more top heavy list, but those never won the vote. So one of them came up with this idea, so that those who wanted to get more money could And those happy with the regular prizelist were happy too.
