new bowler looker to buy a ball and quite overwhelmed....

ok.... so i started bowling when i got a job at the ally. got a ball that was laying in the back unclaimed for god knows how long. (storm paradigm passion ) it's not a bad ball but it's ungodly oil soaked and is only good for a spare ball at this point, and to a degree ive just come to want a ball of my own. while i choose a ball of my own ive come to adopt a Colombia 300 (cant think of the name of the ball off the top of my head but its another from the back room of the ally)

i know picking the right ball has everything to do with how i roll and im not exactly versed in all the bowling lingo so this may prove to be a hurdle.

my average at the end of my summer league was 153, but ive improve so much since then it's unreal. i bowled 16 games last week, with a 180something average, and that was an average on a good day. bad days, are 140's and 150's now.
im a two handed bowler.(no thumb except for 9 & 10 pins) i do however use the thumb hole to change how i will roll the ball out.
speed 16.5-17.5mph

not sure of my rev's or how to count them, i put a fair amount of revs on the ball. but the ball i throw on a house pattern crosses the arrows just at the center arrow (22-18 board), and breaks in around the 8th board, but i cant tell you how far down it breaks.

okay... now onto balls that will work well for me. and what i already know wont.

storm virtual gravity nano.... too aggressive... i had trouble getting it to the pocket, lots of Brooklyn's though.

storm fast... still maybe a contender... the one i threw was drilled aggressive, so im not sure if a less aggressive layout would still work for me or not.

storm reign of fire.... unsure... would roll in great one time, then never turn the next... left a bad taste in my mouth.

lane one pink panther.... could be... no clue how they had it drilled, but i was handed the ball after a bad first game (maybe 140's) and shot a 600+ series.(my first ever, second 250+ ever with it as well) i was somewhat sad to return this ball.

storm paradigm passion... current ball... when i was throwing slower it worked well, but it's either oil soaked or i throw too fast with not enough turn for that ball to move

what i haven't thrown.
900 global the nuts... i think it's what im looking for, but am afraid i dont know enough to make such a call. it's supposed to break later, and i figure if i have it drilled somewhat neutral ill be able to dial it in fine with some practice. ... the other thing is that it is a brand ive never seen thrown in our house. and that worries me a bit.


i need a good mid range ball. kind of a catch all ball. something that will still turn when there is oil, but will make it down the lane when they are dry(er)

From every thing you said above, I would go with the Lane #1 Pink Panther!!

The reason is because this ball worked well for you better than any other ball you listed, So I would go with what I know works!!!

There are many bowling balls out on the market, but I have found that it is hard to find a ball that suits a bowlers style that works well on various oil patterns.

There are so many different core's and cover stocks that it makes it hard to know what will work best for any style bowler, and yes it does make a big difference, because some simply work better than others for certain bowlers release style/rev rate/speed...etc.

Out of 100 bowling balls that I tested, I only found three that worked great for me that allowed me to bowl higher scores on a regular basis on a variety of oil patterns!!!

Most of the other bowling balls I tested only worked on certain oil patterns. Some only worked on short oil patterns, others only worked on heavy long oil patterns!!

Only three bowling balls out of 100.... Worked on a wide variety of oil patterns and lane surfaces!!!!

So go with what you know will work!!!!! And since the Lane #1 Pink Panther has not been discontinued yet, then I would buy at least two...That way if one gets damaged or wears out then you will have a back up!!!

If I were you, I would study the specs on this ball, and keep this information for future reference such as core dynamics>>>Low RG v/s High RG numbers, and differential numbers, and flare potential....etc.

Remember that these balls may be drilled aggresively for the person they are drilled for doesn't mean that they are drilled aggressive for you. Each bowler has a different positive axis point, and therefore each bowler will get a different reaction from the ball. If you are looking for a ball, I would suggest something more aggressive than the Fast, and not as aggresive as the Nano. I would suggest the New Storm Frantic that will be coming out next month. It is in the Hot line, so it isn't very expensive. It is a hybrid coverstock, and has a great core in it. It will be aggressive, but not too aggressive. The coverstock is the same that was on the Hy-Road, which is one of the most versatile balls ever made. Good luck!

my only worry with picking the ball that threw well for me one time, is that i get it, and never find that heat again.

however, reviews seem really good for it. i think im going to try to get my hands on it again see if i cant throw it a few different days, to feel the ball out more.
