This action of strongarming the ball back tends to naturally swing you around and then you compensate for that by trying to square your body up again hence the behind the body swing.
Try pushing the ball out further and higher in your pushaway. You may have to practice this a bit as it may give you some timing issues if you have grown accustomed to your current style.
