Define the Lingo...Please

Now that I am able to hit my targets on the lane consistently. I am now wanting to improve my technical knowledge and purchase a new line up geared towards what I have researched for my game. Please help me in learning the technical lingo of the pro shops that way I get what I ask for without any dissatisfaction once the drill has hit the cover-stock.

RG - and how does it affect a roll?

Q: Selection of specific pins size to specific balls: (does it matter) ex: 3"- 4" pin A: ___?

Ex: I am a 16-17 mph bowler I haven't professionally been rev rated but I am around 325-335rev; based on what I see on you tube.

A good place for definitions is at the very bottom of the "bowling ball.com" site. Look for "Bowling Terms".

Learning what the PAP is and how it is found can be observed at several places on youtube. It can also teach you with the use of a camera, how to determine your rev rate.

Having some information in your profile will assist the more skilled bowlers and the pro-shop people on the site provide you with more focused information. Some good information would be age, ball weight , right or left handed, size or weight. This type of information helps those trying to help you understand what pertains and what might not.

I will try to help you understand some of the lingo hope this helps you out.

RG - and how does it affect a roll?
RG= Radius of Gyration the lower the number the sooner the ball picks up a heavy roll on
the lane and the higher the number the later the ball picks up the roll on the lane.

Q: Selection of specific pins size to specific balls: (does it matter) ex: 3"- 4" pin
A Pin In ball = is a bowling ball with a short 0 - 1 1/2" pin and the center of gravity is within 1 1/2" of one another
and has less drilling options
A Pin Out ball = is a bowling ball with a normal pin say 3" or more so the pin and the center of gravity distance
is greater than 1 1/2" from one another and has better drilling options.

Then you have your
Pro Pin balls = a ball with pin a distance over 5" from the center of gravity and top weight between 2 and 4 ounces
which allow you to use drill patterns that may not be capable with a normal pin ball.

Differential (diff.)
Differential = RG differential indicates the amount of track flare potential of a bowling ball the higher the number the
greater the track flare potential the lower the number the less track flare.

pap - clueless...help
PAP = Positive Axis Point which is a point on a ball that the ball wants to initially rotate about when a bowler releases it
and to get a ball drilled it is best to know your PAP

Psa - ".".
PSA = Preferred Spin Axis this is something that if I'm not mistaken I believe Storm Bowling Products was responsable for
coming up with and it is kind of hard to explain maybe this video right here can explain it a whole lot better than I can

Pin buffer - ".".
A Pin Buffer is the horizontal distance between the Pin and your VAL or the Vertical Axis Line so the smaller the pin buffer say 1"
the more angular off the break point your ball will be and the larger the pin buffer say a 3" buffer then the less angular your ball
will be off the break point.

asymmetrical drilling versus symmetrical drilling - pros versus cons for my ability .
There is quite a big difference in bowling ball reaction from Symmetric and Asymmetric cores bowling balls with Symmetric cores
tend to be a quite a bit more predictable on the backends and a ball with a asymmetrical core can be a lot stronger and a lot more
angular on the backend now as for pros vs. the cons for your abilty that is something you might want to talk to your PRO shop or
your ball driller about as they will know more about your style of bowling than any of us can tell you.
