    Default Traveling with 3 Balls

Does anyone know what the typical weight of a 3 ball tote bag with wheels weighs? I am getting ready to go to Nationals again. I'm not going to use the bowling ball express that USBC offers. The last time I used the BBE, I missed 3 league sessions while my equipment was in transit.

I'm planning to take them with me on the plane. My goal is to keep my 3-14 pound balls and bag at no more than 50 pounds. I know my regular bag is way too heavy, but I don't know about the 3 ball totes.

If someone has one, please weigh it empty and let me know the weight. I may be shooting in the dark, but it's worth a shot.

    Thanks

My current bag with 3 15lb balls in comes in at 49lbs including shoes. It's a travel bag though with just a small roller wheel.

That is what I was hoping to hear. 50 pounds is the limit without overweight charges for the airlines.

The soft-sided totes are a good call. The airlines tend to damage the hard-backed bags with the external wheels. The bags that have the inline skate wheels built into the base/corner of the tote seem to hold up better.

I've taken my Storm Tournament Totes on the plane many times and it always worked out well. With 14 pound equipment you won't have any issues. My 15 pound stuff comes in just under 50 pounds.

Thanks guys. Last time to Nationals, I took 2-2 ball bags. We flew Southwest, so there wasn't a problem. Southwest doesn't fly to Baton Rouge, they only fly into New Orleans. The air fare to Baton Rouge through another carrier is just over half of what Southwest wants to fly to NO. This year I'll need to pay the baggage fees, so I need to make sure I'm under the 50 pound limit. 2-2 ball bags will be $60 each way, while one light 3 ball bag will only be $25 each way. Now I need to decide what ball to leave home. Whichever one it is, I'll guarantee it will be the one I need.
