It would pretty much kill the performance. You would have a hard time with both speed and revolutions.
So quick topic here; lets say I were to not have any finger/thumb holes in ball, and just throw it as is. How would this action affect the performance of the ball.
P.S. Just wondering
Thanks, Dan

Yep I'd have to agree 100% with J Anderson on that it would be extremely hard
to get and kind of accuracy ball speed and revs on the ball by just palming it.

Even if you were to find a way to consistently create consistent speed and revs, it would be nearly impossible to put your hand in the same position each time due to there being no holes. This would leave the core shifted in different positions and therefore different reactions.

The ball itself would react alright, but there would be difficulty creating revs like the other guys said. If you could somehow be consistent, you would be able to adjust the reaction of the ball by placing your hands in a different position. Kind of an interesting idea, but not likely a good way to be a good bowler. If it was possible to be great doing this, someone would be a profesional doing it. I like the free thinking though.

See because I myself do throw the ball with no holes. It's not that hard for me because I already use two hands. Although this may surprise you guys, I am very consistent with my throw. Now the purpose in this thread was to see how the ball will be different(as in pin action, revs, etc.) and to see how people react to it. Once in a while I while get the problem of the ball slipping, but wiping the ball works perfectly.
One thing I have not considered is that I can change the hook of the ball by placing my hands in different positions. Speaking about that, I always place my hands in the same spot as I can use features of the ball to mark hand position.
Thanks for the info
Since your using a ball without holes, did you remember to have it checked to see that the static weights are legal? It still has to meet the usbc rules regarding static weights.
Balance
The following tolerances shall be permissible in the balance of a bowling ball used in certified competition:
10.01 pounds or more:
Not more than three ounces difference between the top half of the ball (finger hole
side) and the bottom half (side opposite the finger holes).
Not more than one ounce difference between the sides to the right and left of the finger
holes or between the sides in front and back of the finger holes.
A ball drilled without a thumb hole may not have more than three ounces difference
between the top half and bottom half of the ball.
A ball used without any holes or indentations may not have more than one ounce
difference between any two halves of the ball.
Right handed Stroker, high track ,about 13 degree axis tilt. PAP is located 5 9/16” over 1 3/4” up.Speed ave. about 14 mph at the pins. Medium rev’s.High Game 300, High series 798

Most bowling balls come with around 2.2 to 3.5 oz top weight. That could be a problem. Although, I have no idea how the USBC would weigh the side weights, because there are no holes to find a midgrip on. I would guess that they would have some rule against this practice, but I am not sure. If you are bowling in a sanctioned league, I would suggest putting a call into the local USBC association and asking them.
When you say, you are consistent, I would question how consistent you would be if you had a little better grip. I bowled for years with a particular style that worked well for me, but I eventually took some advice and made some small changes that improved my bowling by a bunch. I wish you the best of luck, no matter what method you throw the ball![]()

Danoman,
I have seen a couple of guys try this and it did not work for them. But I would love to see how you roll the ball if you could get a friend to tape you and youtube it under your name. Let us know if you have the time and phone or camera to do this.
I run a pro shop in Ormond and that sounds cool the way you are rolling the ball. We need new ideas and this would be cool if it works.
