Thread: Shooting, rising, or cyclone?

    Default Shooting, rising, or cyclone?

Which ball should I use at an entry level? The rotogrips? if so, the shooting or rising? What are the differences?

I honestly don't think you'll go wrong with either personally. I have a teammate he is just starting out that uses a Cyclone and his average has gone up 15 pins since he got it (it started at 103, up to 118). But I've heard nothing but good things about all Roto Grip Products (I love my Mutant Cell). I know that doesn't help you pick but you truly won't go wrong with either!

well the shooting star is a good ball has a nice flip on the backend but the rising star have a arc at the backend which i would say the rising star would be better for you because of the arc with a flip then it could flip to earlyer or to late but the arc always happens at the breakpoint unless u adjust then breakpoint moves.

so i would go with the rising start. for me i throw the columbia 300 freeze cause it has a abit of a snap on the backend but also remember the way you drill it makes that hook stronger or weaker

Talk to your proshop guy, but Imo, if you go with one of the two roto grip products mentioned, youll probably be able to use it longer (assuming you take care of it and whatnot) because they are a bit stronger...that being said, I've heard cyclones are great...and they are priced pretty reasonably. You just gotta find out whats going to work for you. When I told my proshop guy I was looking to get better we were going to go with a cyclone but once I came in and threw my old ball for him he decided to move me to something stronger.

The Shooting Star is a great ball for the money. Got one for my wife earlier this year and she loves it. It is fairly aggressive, but I don't necessarily agree that it has a big flip in the back ends. That is more controlled by the layout. Both Shooting & Rising have the same core, with the Shooting being a solid cover and the Rising being a hybrid. Don't thing you can go wrong with either one. Good Luck

The shooting and the rising are both good balls.

The Shooting Star is a strong ball with its solid, dull coverstock, But if needed by polishing it you can tame it some. The Shooting will be pretty smooth through most of the lane. It will be suited more for oil to mediums.

The Rising Star is a polished Hybrid coverstock, so not as strong a the Shooting. It will go longer, its not quite a skid/flip ball. But on the right condition and depending on your style, you could see it react that way. The ball is most suited for mediums, but if you dulled it you could do a little more. Depending on your style.

If I had to pick for myself, I think I'd get the Rising Star. IMO I think it would be more versatile. It's good for the mediums (which your on most of the time) and would hang in there longer as the lanes broke down.

If I knew ahead a time I was going to be on a wetter condition, I could give it more surface. But usually I'd have a different ball for that anyway.
