I myself was noticing myself doing this about 3 weeks ago and asked myself the same question and proceeded to fix it. If you want your arm to go back when you start your swing.. So why put the extra step of moving forward.
How to fix it:
Very easy.. Just place your ball to the spot you were moving it forward to... and instead of moving forward, just let it go back. The higher you start the ball, the more speed you should ultimately have. Just extend your arm(s) and let it fall instead of pushing forward and letting it fall back down.
All of this is just my advice and if its a way you are comfortable bowling, then by all means, continue bowling that way. It was just something I noticed that may help you out. Good luck
