Thread: Can you sand your ball?

Default Can you sand your ball?

Hey I've been bowling for about 4 months and i have a mission x. For the past two weeks my hook has been decreasing horribly. My league average was around 195 and around 215 during open bowl but has decreased to around 175 league and 180s in open bowl. So i noticed that my ball has a polished look to it now and stay slippery after i clean it with ball cleaner. Is there anyway i could sand it again or anyway i can do a deep cleaning on the ball? Also the prices for the procedures would be nice. All advice will be greatly appreciated.

I guess you need to figure out how bad the ball track looks. Usually your ball will have an area more worn where the ball lands on the lanes. If you can see a track pattern around the ball I'd go get it sanded. Low grit matte balls I think take the most work to keep the same. Everytime you throw the ball your smoothing the cover and oil is basically polishing. You could wipe the ball with a towel before each throw to help. Cost I really don't know my pro shop never charges me but I think 5-10. If I had that ball I'd try a green scotch brite but going to the pro shop would be best chance to get the same grit.

If your ball has a matte finish, you should sand the ball back to that surface every 9-12 games in order to keep the reaction. As a ball rolls down the lane, the surface will change the more you throw it. Also, the surface will get a polished look as you say due to oil absorbing into the coverstock. Sanding back to the original grit and regular cleaning will help prevent this.

well just like mayor sead if the ball is matte then put it back too its original finish after 9-12 games yeah but if you got some good cleaner stuff then you could do it every 15-18 games but i would stick with every 9-12 soo your ball dose stay good.

also you are saying your ball is getting a polish look into what type of ball cleaner are you useing cause maby the ball cleaner might be putting that olish look onto it which some cleaners do but if you got a dull ball get a ball cleaner thats for dull balls

Ya, I've really got to get my NeXXus cleaned/sanded/dulled in the coming days... I've got about 50 or so games on it and the oil has diminished its hook greatly. I miss the factory finish
