Thread: Need more slide...

    Default Need more slide...

Hey everyone, long time lurker, first time poster.

Just got back into bowling. It's been a good 12 years (when I was 18) since I bowled on a more serious level and 22 years since a serious league (8 years old).

I have 1 winter league under my belt now but am noticing that I get a sharp pain in the left of my hip/upper thigh by about the 3rd game. Since I'm in 2 leagues this summer (Tues & Wed.), this pain tends to compound by the number of times I'm bowling a week.

From what I can tell, my slide is very minimal. I bought some better shoes that I figured would help the problem, link here, but I feel it hasn't changed a thing, maybe even worse. I would like more slide at the ball of my feet, and the heels of these are made with "Goodyear" rubber, which stops instantly.

    My question:
Is there a way I can replace the soles on these with something more slick, and is there anything I can do to the heel (maybe even replace if someone could say how), to get quite a bit more slide. BTW, these shoes are not "adjustable", it looks like the heel and sole are meant to be permanent.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Try a bowling sock, they fit over the toe of your sliding shoe, and allows you to slide a bit easier.

get a new shoe! SST8 allows u to change your sole, heel anytime u feel that the area is too slippery/oily or to dry/non-oily.. able to change with a variety of soles/heels.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I will probably look into a sliding sock since new shoes are outside the current budget, and the powder is not allowed in league or tournies.
