I also got osteo arthritis likely from Gulf War. Still waiting to hear back on my claims, such a slow process
Some of us now suffer from some form or another of arthritis. The rest of you probably will if you bowl long enough or have a physically intensive job. I'm just curious how and what others are doing to combat these or other ailments and if anybody does anything for prevention.
My diet is pretty good. Besides bowling I also started playing softball. I did work out regularly until I tore a ligament in my right elbow about 10 years ago. My job is physically demanding so that does help. I also take Omega 3, glucosamine and a multi-vitamin. The doctors diagnosed me with degenerative arthritis when I was 23 along with Gulf War Syndrome. Being a stubborn sort I have never let any ailment keep me from doing what I want but I did stop jumping out of airplanes on June 3, 1991.

I gave up with the VA. Of course they denied everything at first about the breathing issues, joint pain, memory loss, etc. Then one day I get a letter stating what I tried telling them, that my unit was hit by chemical weapons. It was due to some moron office having his unit burn the stuff they captured with a few thousand soldiers down wind. Also tried telling me that guarding the burning oil well fires wouldn't cause any respiratory problems. They later backed off that load of garbage too. Out of the 30 guys in my platoon, 22 have died from brain cancer. The 8 of us that are left are the ones that didn't take the pills they forced on us upon arriving in country.
The VA and US government can't afford to be honest about what happened. They will come clean after enough people have died. Just like they did with Agent Orange. What I really want to know is why we had to give accounts of stuff like the "Battle of Death Valley" for historical purposes and then never reveal it to the public!? What confused my then wife was when President Bush went on TV and told the world that my unit wasn't over there and wouldn't be going. This was weeks after we had been there. But that I could understand, don't tip off the enemy, the rest is different.

I have many thoughts on War, Goverment, VA, ect... But I think this might not be the venue to vent, about such subjects. Let me just say, my thoughts, are not a pretty thing!!! But I don't like thinking about all the BS associated with WAR, and treatment of Vets!!! They have cut soooo many benifits now, and waiting list can be as long as, ((in my case)) 9 months to see a foot doctor!! I have insurance, and not sure I even TRUST them!
This will be the last of my opinons on this subject! I was drafted, I served 2 years, and its the past! (I have good insurance through my wife.... Railroader!
I don't trust the VA!! (JUST ME,, my opinion), and you know what they say about opinions!! (Have you ever seen the movie about a Vietnam Vet called ( Jacob's Ladder )
That was based on a true story. I have very,,VERY little trust in our goverment! I base that on history, and facts. It not just our goverments! All systems of goverment, and not just now, but from the very beginning.... Greeks, Egyptians, Romans, it seems to go with the territory!! We are nothing, (really), but vessels, units, used by the BIG BOYs to enrich themeselfs... jmho. In spite of all the above, I love this counry, and would not want to live anywhere else in the world! I think in large part due to the LARGE NUMBERS of bowling alleys per square mile! (( there you go!!! I worked a Bowling statement into this message)) (lol

a coworker praises this stuff, thy have a long infomercial about it
I've talked to two people who are in their 80s about injuries and such. They both agreed that a normal diet along with bowling through any pain is the way to deal with it. Of course if you have arthrites or any other pain that doesn't go away, you should consult with your doctor and follow what your doctor prescribes. One of the great thing about bowling is that you don't have to be in great shape, like when we were in the military. (yes I served my country too) I've seen people in great shape bowl and do poorly and I've seen people who look like they weigh over 250lbs bowl and hit in the 200s every time. IF you eat right and do some form of activity on top of regular visits to your doctor you should be able to do what my grandfather did, bowl until he was 88. I also read about another guy who was still bowling even on the day he turned 100. There are no special supplements, vitamins, or special diet that you need to be on in order to bowl. It's not like football where you need to lift weights, and work out everyday. Just going out at least once a week in between league nights is enough to stay consistent and get better.
