Thread: Is this bad form?

    Default Is this bad form?

I use a three step approach, and I start with my left foot a half step behind my right, rather than side by side. Is that fine, or is it bad form?

it all depends on wether it is working or not, not everyone has the same approach, find one that is comfortable for you and is working and you should be fine.

3 steps is fine.. Tommy Jones uses it sometimes.. and i also have my right foot behind my left in my starting position.. it's not necessary to have them side by side..

You know, starting with your lead foot behind your other foot is a great idea actually. Getting started in your approach becomes second nature because all you have to do is lean forward and your back foot automatically comes forward without your even having to think about it...

Except if you need to open the lanes up. In that case it causes the body to be angled away from the target. It can be compensated for though by standing with the feet angled a few degrees to reset the body. Everybody's timing is a bit different at the beginning and middle. Where it matters the most is the end. If you can generate enough speed and power with 3 steps then so be it.

I don't though. I start it with my first step. I do have a very low backswing though (I don't think it even gets to parallel with the ground).

You may find that eventually, as you free up your arm swing, you may need to add a step to keep the end timing correct. A video would help as all bowlers are different.
