    Default Consistent hand position

    I started messing with different hand positions on release today during my first practice game to see how each affected ball roll. After that point I tried to maintain a consistent hand position and struggled to get it the same from shot to shot. I had never had a big problem with that before.

    Give it a couple of weeks while messing with different positions. It will usually work itself out. There are still times when I change from one to another that I end up with some messed up hybrid.

    I've found that changing my start position, ball speed, hand position, etc tends to cause me to end up messing up my original start position, etc. This only happens if I am constantly changing something. Whether it be a small adjustment like one board or an inch, or a big adjustment like bringing my back foot too far behind me. If I make an adjustment that causes a strike, I usually forget what that change was due to making so many. So, I have found that I need to bowl a one to three games as I do on league nights before I start messing around trying new things. I also bowl one to three games after three games of making adjustments to get back into what I do when I bowl on league nights. I have nothing against trying something new. BUT it is important to make sure you bowl at least one game like you do during league/tournaments so that your muscles don't remember the changes that didn't work. Part of this game, after all, is muscle memory. From the rhythm used in our approach, to our arm swinging a certain way, it's all muscle memory.

    One thing that helps some people is keeping notes during practice of the change made and the change in reaction. As one client said, during competition you want confidence in the change and not be wondering, was this what I did that led to this reaction? An open mind and confidence are two keys to any change. Going from one change and back to before it just takes more practice to learn how to instill and then remove it, proper feel of what you want to do.

    Was much more consistent in my release today, but did have a couple frames where I got my hand too far behind the ball at release and went straight through my break point and into the gutter

    It's ok, they still come back from there. The pin count is just lower. It's a pain but worth getting use to

    i usually just try to be consistent but my hand often refuses to "listen" to me.. lol

    i have poor brain-body coordination it seems.. lol.. my body reacts only after a few seconds after my brain tells it to do something.. haha..
