Default Hip Pain and a Solution

This is probably obvious to you pros, but as a beginner it wasn't to me. I did a search on this and found nothing, so I thought I'd post this for someone who might be in the same boat. I'm 43 and my bowling "career" is about 2 1/2 months long now. Since the start, about half way through my first game my left hip joint began to hurt, by the middle of the second game the pain was almost unbearable. I chalked it up to old age and just dealt with it. Recently, I got a pair of Dexter SST8's to replace the VERY entry level 2 month old Brunswick shoes that I started with. I just got back from bowling 8 games with my new SST8's for the first time and I felt ZERO hip pain the entire time. I discovered that my tendency to plant, wasn't my technique, but was actually the slide shoe sticking. I always kept the soles clean and dry, it just did not slide well. So if you suffer hip pain when bowling, it could be your shoes. And if you are looking to buy your first pair of shoes, don't buy the cheapest ones you find. They certainly didn't save me any money. Unfortunately my scores didn't go up right away, but not having to ignore pain and the ability to practice and enjoy the game more will surely help. By the way, the new SST8's are out now and some good deals are out there on the leftover old models.

We are the same age. I have lots of joint pain from the Gulf and multiple surgeries. Obviously a different kind as my hip pain went away when I stopped sliding. I agree 100%, shoes are critical to joint pain. Glad you like your SSTs. I like both of my pairs also.
