Default PBA weekend show (spoiler alert)

So watched the PBA events Saturday and Sunday and kind of got an eye opener. Simonson had a pretty bad mental attitude and I really think it affected him through both games. Bill O'Neil almost fell victim to it too but bounced back. I started thinking about it and I think our team suffers from the same behavior. When we are struggling I tend to have a negative attitude about my game and about us performing as a team. We have another guy that comes back and punches the chairs and tables, picks chairs up and slams them back down, and another that gets short tempered with opponents when he is struggling. There have even been comments made amongst each other complaining about one another.

This past week the music was turned down very low and I have a playlist of upbeat songs that I like. Alice Cooper, Van Halen, Scorpions, etc. So we had that playing and we were all pumped up and having fun. We ended up winning 2 of 3 and had fun. Planning to do that again tomorrow night and gonna try to get the whole team change their attitude (myself included.

Simonsen's behavior was embarrassing. Like you said, Dick Allen and Bill O'Neill started going down that road too, but not as severely. Bill O'Neill got really lucky...for lack of a better word.

We have some bowlers on our league that also punch chairs, pick chairs up and slam them down, yell obscenities, flip off the pins, etc. It is pointless behavior. It isn't the chairs fault or the fault of the pins. When you throw a bad shot, simply brush it off and move on to the next frame. It is kind of alarming, actually, that people get so upset they feel the need to punch or throw something...particularly furniture and mechanical/electronic equipment that doesn't even belong to them. Verbally abusing other people is just unacceptable.

No one is going to execute a perfect shot every single time. No one is averaging 300.

I struggled last night - but that was because I was exhausted from driving over 8 hours towing a trailer, stowed it, then came bowling. I was just beat - bowled badly (couldn't remember what I was supposed to move or do. . .) and was just blech. No throwing stuff around, just sat in my chair. Apologized to the opponents.

Not going to do that again (which means, yes, I probably will, lol)

Yeah I get frustrated with myself and my attitude goes down the tubes but I don't kick, punch, or throw anything. Also don't take it out on others. But yeah my teammates can bring us all down when they act like that

I have a teammate that thinks just because the ball hits the 1-3 pocket, it should be a strike every time. They put a lot of pressure on themselves with that thinking, because as soon as the 10-pin stays up they are devastated. If they leave more than a couple of 10-pins they dwell on it and let it affect their night. Sure, leaving corners can be frustrating. We have all been there. But don't obsess on it to the point where it clouds your ability to make the proper adjustments.

Bowling is equal parts body mechanics and managing stress/emotions.

yep. my one teammate (same one that punches stuff) blames it on the center when he leaves 10 pins. He figures if it is close enough to the pocket it should go. He walks back saying 'That's Sims for ya'. One night he literally left 7 in a row but never moved from his spot. I kept telling him to adjust. Change ball speed, etc. His response was 'it was in the pocket'. And he has been bowling in leagues since about 1980 and has a 202 average

Yes, same basic thing here too. They will keep leaving corners. Meanwhile I will have adjusted and found that light pocket hits carry, for example. My teammate will comment "I don't get it! I am hammering the pocket and leaving corners. You hit light and carry. That's not right!" I just shrug and sit back down. Meanwhile. my teammate hasn't figured out that all they would need to do is come in a little light on that lane and they would probably carry better.

Whole team had a little better attitude tonight again. We still lost 2 of 3 but they were all close and we kept an upbeat attitude. The chair puncher rolled a 620 (202 average). The other one rolled a 513 but had 199-195-118. He was pretty frustrated by game 3 and 4 pitchers of beer didn't help him...lol

Glad your team had a better attitude. I don't get upset anymore it's not productive. If I get a bad break and say pocket 7-10 I practice my ten pin. I have not blamed the lanes since the late 90's there is always a shot now a days on a THS it's just getting the ball through the pins. My leagues are over for this season so will be practicing a bit which I did not during the season. I know I can get better just takes time. Steve

Yeah we have position round next week then we are done. Gonna try to get some practice in over the summer. I have been league bowling year round with no weeks off since January 2018 so this will be my first break other than the COVID shutdowns so will try to get some practice in now
