What makes today's league bowling any more valid than open bowling?

    Well, numerous things.

But in my case, the biggest non-league factor was that it was bowled on one lane. I think bowling a 300 is much easier (in general) when you only have to deal with one lane condition.

And in practice, the vast majority of people don't get a pair to practice on, they just use one lane.

But then you add in all the other stuff, like it "mattering".

The wild card is consistent lane conditions. In the past I'd say one of the biggest things is that you bowl on a fresh, undisturbed pattern during league versus a hodge podge of whatever during open bowling....but some centers actually don't oil before league play...which should be illegal...but isn't...so there goes that argument.

But it's more the little things nowadays. Like the people that like to bowl fast...they get in a groove and just start mowing down pins...they do well in open bowling where the pace is fast...but then in league play...they gotta wait 5-10 minutes between shots (more if the other team took a podi or smoke break). That doesn't bother most bowlers...but some bowlers lose their momentum if they have to sit down between shots.

The USBC allows you to bowl on just one lane if there is a mechanical reason you can't use two.

You can create a USBC sanctioned singles league, so your "team" consists of just you.

I think I'll just wait another 6-12 months and roll a legitimate one. Can't be that hard, Iceman did it twice.

Went yesterday for my first practice of the summer, and ended up bowling in a tournament.

Things did not go very well. Should have saved my donation and got some much needed practice in like I intended to do.

Was an 8 game tournament and we moved a pair after 2 games. For the 8 game set, I was +14. Very poor and WAY under average, but about average for how the summer is going. Going this week to get my thumb hole fixed on my spare ball and a couple other tweaks on some other equipment.

In any case, it was some expensive practice. Always enjoy competing any way that I can if you want to call the way I shot competing. LOL.

Good night on the lanes for position round.

Decided to try my old standard First Blood since I just got some new grips put in this week. What a difference some new grips make to the feel of a ball.

Game 1 started with double, 10 pin, double, a pair of 2 pin leaves getting just a bit fast, 7 pin, and punch out for a 236.

Game 2 strike, 10 pin, turkey, 10 pin, strike, 7 pin which was almost a 7-10, punch out for 239.

Game 3 double, 7 pin, 4 bagger, way too fast leaving 1-2-4, strike, 2 pin, and strike in the fill for a 236.

    236-239-236 = 711

    9.66 first ball average
    71% strikes

Spare ball felt great with the newly slugged thumb.

Very consistent and a much needed confidence boosting 30 clean series. This should have easily been an 800 series were it not for pesky 7 pins and 10 pins, left 3 of each.

Buddy of mine that was subbing for another team had his old and only ball Black Widow Pearl crack on him. I checked his ball for fit and he was pretty close to my fit. I let him use my IQ Tour Fusion which I hardly ever use(not even sure why I bought that ball), and he shot a 656 with it last night. He loved it. He offered me $40 to buy it, I countered with $60 and he took it. So I unloaded a ball that I never really used anyway and put a little cash back in my pocket. Perhaps this is the beginning of the money I can gather to get that Haywire. Money night next week for end of summer as well to add to it.

    1) The only downside is a used original black widow will sell for like $100+ easy…I saw an undrilled one for $300-$400.

    2) If this guy needs a used 16lb Columbia Encounter, Hammer Rhythm, or Brunswick Slingshot…I'll even cover the shipping if he wants to give me $60 each for them. I'll even autograph them…assuming that doesn't actually DE-value them.
