Well it looks like Hurricane Sandy is on it's way here. Spent some time yesterday, and today getting my house ready. I took all of the outdoor furniture inside, tied down the garbage cans, and got rid of all the crap my mother had in my yard for 3 weeks worth of yard sales. Went to the store to get some food, and liquor. So I should be good for a few days! Sandy, have mercy on us!

Yea, I did all my hurricane prep yesterday. Everything is put away. Generator is gassed up and ready. Food, water. Videos and pictures of the beach.
Bring it on, *****!

So now I'm just sitting around bored, waiting, drinking... ...a lot. I'm going to take a few days off of work, watch the storm roll in. I may have a few friends over, as they need to evacuate. I'm a little worried about the bowling alley I bowl my league at. It is very close to the water. In fact, my buddy who is evacuating, he lives around the block from the bowling alley.

People around here are getting all bent out of shape. Sure it's been raining on and off for the past 3 days, but I honestly don't expect anything bad to happen. Maybe some downed trees if we get major winds, but the media is putting everyone in a panic. If it gets bad though I have a few cases of MRE's in the basement and a propane heater i'll survive.

Its gotten a lot windier the last hour but still not much rain. Lights have flickered but we still have phone and electricity. So does my mom who a bit closer to the storm center and whose house is much more prone to power outages.

It hasn't hit land yet, however AC has lost part of its boardwalk. The bay and sea are now one. Cape May and Wildwood are pretty much flooded. At my house in central NJ, I have 2 trees down, and I'm expecting a few others judging by the wind. And it's going to get worse. It will continue the job started by Irene, and the freak snowstorm in my yard.

Sorry to hear you are getting hit, hopefully everything calms down and you don't have to much damage when it's all said and done.

We got off lucky. Power went out last night around 8:30, just came back on a little while ago. A branch hit the corner of the roof and took a piece of shingle off and bent the end of the gutter.

Lost power around 6:30 last night, still not on. Estimates are the soonest we get power back is Thursday, but more than likely we will be down for 7-10 days or more. Staying with a friend who's power didn't go out for a while. 90% of Long Island is without power. Frustrating cause from my porch I can see houses on the next block with power, and we could be without power until next Friday. Lots of trees and power lines down in our area. We had wind gusts about 90 mph, some rain. Just nasty, now were dealing with the aftermath. I'm losing a lot of business and lots of money too. Just sucks.

That sucks to hear, but the most important thing is that you weren't hurt. just take it one day at a time, the worst is over.

Power is back on, back home now. Gonna try to get back to normal this weekend, you know, aside from the gas shortage. I even got to bowl last night, my league said screw it, lets bowl!

I live within easy walking distance of my local alley. We only lost power for 20 hours, the alley didn't get back on line until today!

We got our electricity back Wednesday night but many in our area (NE PA) are still out. Just the same, there was much greater damage on the NJ Eastern Shores. The bowling alley nearby (Blue Valley Lanes in Wind Gap, PA) is up and running. After a week off from bowling I am "champin' at the bit" and ready to go.

Bowling was good therapy for us. It was the first regular thing most of us did since the storm. Most of the week, one of teammates has been replacing the roof that blew off of his parents house. Got word that another friend lost everything, house, cars, thankfully he and his family are ok. There is a gas station 3 houses down from my house. I couldn't even get in my driveway last night cause they had gas, and the line went for at least a mile. No line now, because no gas. They are getting a delivery today, so I will be getting on the line when I see it form.

I decided not to panic, and I didn't get on the line for gas outside my house yesterday. Especially cause the line was forming because of rumors that gas was coming. However, despite my insisting that getting on that line was stupid, my chick did just that. We swapped a few times so she could use the bathroom, and make lunch. She was in front of my house the whole time, on the line waitng. 5 hours, and what happened? The gas station owner came out and said "why is everyone lined up, there's no gas coming." 2 different attendants at the station said gas was coming. It's a dirty trick, they get you to line up, so you come in, get coffee, get a soda, a snack, whatever. I had half a tank, so I was going to wait until mid week before I needed to find a gas station. I got a text from a neighbor at 4:00am, saying a gas staion 3 miles away got a delivery, and there isn't a long line. So I went, there wasn't a small line, there was NO LINE!!! I pulled right up to a pump, filled up, and filled a coulpe gas cans. So I'm good unitl the end of the week, probably next weekend. Got a scare from the power company, about 2 hours ago, after being on for two days, our power went back out. It was only out for 15 minutes. They must have had to turn it off while they fixed someone elses power.

That sucks they are using a crisis to boost their bottom line. We had a major flood here a few years ago and you didn't see anything like that. Our restaurant (with what we had left and could serve) made sandwiches and stuff to just hand out to everyone. We had bands of neighbors going house to house to help everyone clean all the mess out of basements and first floors. No one asked anyone for anything, they just did what anyone should have done in a disaster. I'm so glad I still live in a small town.

No doubt, if it can save me 5 hours of sitting in line for gas, wake my butt up!
That sucks they are using a crisis to boost their bottom line. .
They are scum, I just watched them do it again. Cars were lined up since 8 this morning, and they just told them about 10 min ago that they had no delivery coming. I will never go to that gas station again. I tired to tell the people on the line that they were wasting thier time, cause the gas station lied, but they wouldn't listen. I guess they figured I wanted everyone to get away from my house, or get them off the line so I can get gas quick. Whatever, you can't fix stupid.

Still no electricity for me or seven of my neighbors. A pole snapped into two pieces and the top half piece is just hanging on. As a result, across the street their line running to their house came out and a line is down, plus my cable line is down. The power company refuses to turn our power on or fix anything until my neighbor across the street hires an electrician to fix their line to their house. It's expensive as hell too. Fights have nearly broken down over this.
Right now I have the generator going and it's about 50 degrees in my house. I'm stealing internet from another neighbor.

Sorry to hear you are having it rough greenday.
I don't know how things work with the power company in NJ, but here at least the power company is responsible to the house. I had to fight one time over a branch falling and tearing the wire out. If not home owners insurance should cover that. Hell if it's keeping the entire neighborhood in the dark take up a collection and get it done.
It sounds like another round is coming so keep warm.

Our neighbors got it fixed yesterday. Now just waiting on the power company to fix the broken pole and downed wire.

That's good news, now get the electric company out there so you can get some electricity and start posting again.

Some tree company looking at wires stuck in trees backed up without making sure it was clear and a wire got stuck behind their truck. It ripped a wire from my house down and the electric meter off my house. JCP&L said it's not their problem and that we are SOL. The driver took my address number down then just took off.

I mentioned on another topic that I won a bowling ball. Someone asked me if the lanes were dry in my area. Having come through the hurricane, I joking replied "are you referring to lane conditions?" and went on to explain that I was not located in the flood zone, that we had only power interruptions due to wind damage. It turns out he was asking about lane conditions. My lanes are moderate to oily as I understand it, to answer the question.

Still cleaning up around here. Having a snow storm last week didn't help our efforts. Had some scares with family members, but everyonw is OK.
