View Full Version : Would shrinking ring finger span hurt or help hook/revs?
Ball99999

I'm not concerned with it creating more revs, just that it doesn't hurt revs.
I'm not talking about shrinking the span by a significant amount, just a little bit, my ring finger is slightly longer than middle finger span, relatively. I am more interested in creating a 45 degree axis rotation and using the middle finger as a driving finger.

WHY!?!!
honestly, your questions are getting stranger and stranger, if you want to change your axis rotation, change your hand position on the ball, behind the ball to beside the ball on release, screwing with your span is a good way to hurt your hand, even the slightest bit can be bad. get the ball properly drilled for your hand then work on what YOU can do, not what the ball can do for you.
to answer your original question, rev's can be affected if the improper span causes your grip on the ball to be off, if you can't hold the ball correctly, everything may suffer

Ok, first i never said i don't think know anything, in fact on a few occasions i said the opposite, what i did say is from my prospective you seem to be trying something new ever time you come on here, and that you will never get good at anything if you don't stick with it for more than a day.
last time i checked, you posted on here to get opinions and help from others, swearing at them because you don't like what they have to say really shows maturity. Regardless of what you may think, i'm trying to help you, thats more than i can say you have done.

Well here's my opinion
If you want change rotation, you change hand position. it's that simple.
And judging by all your other posts and the the fit problems it seems you have. Worrying about adjusting your span and/or pitches to get a change in rotation is a waste of time.
But Tidalknight I'll give you some info:
Pitch changes to adjust ball roll . . .
This info is from a session with Mo Pinel and Del Warren. They do advocate pitch changes to adjust ball roll.
They start with what some here have called the "claw" grip. That is, a bowler's standard fit will include more forward pitches and a shorter span than has been the norm for many over the last few years. When the thumb is fully inserted and the fingers are laid across the holes, the edge of the hole/insert close to the thumb will be between the first and second crease/joint. They feel that a closed hand can remain more relaxed and still hold the ball without grabbing.
Once the "standard" fit is determined, adjustments can be made as follows (for right handed bowlers, lefties need to reverse the lateral adjustments) :
* To Increase Rev Rate - add 1/8 forward to both fingers and 1/8 reverse to thumb
* To Decrease Rev Rate - add 1/8 reverse to both fingers and 1/8 forward to thumb
* To Increase Axis Rotation and Tilt - add 1/8 left lateral to all three holes
* To Decrease Axis Rotation and Tilt - add 1/8 right lateral to all three holes
* To Increase Roll for low track players - Add 3/8 reverse to middle finger and increase middle finger span by 1/16. Add 3/8 forward to ring finger and shorten ring finger span by 1/16.
* To Increase Axis Rotation and Tilt for very high track players - Add 3/8 forward to middle finger and shorten span 1/16. Add 3/8 reverse to ring finger and lengthen span 1/16.
* Two or more adjustments may be combined for more dramatic results.

Thanks for verifying your name, I thought maybe you were just copying someones old posts and it was a simple way to check.
I've been reading your posts over on bowlingcommunity.com. where you've been posting all these same or similar questions (Not this particular one, at least not that I've found yet) for the last year and getting the same answers over and over.

ball99999 you seem to like saying WHO CARES alot but it seems like you just dont read anything right and when yo0u do read it you think everyone is going at you but one thing im going to say is you make so many dame threads asking questions that you got a answer too in another thread you posted and as bowl1820 is saying you are asking these question on another site and you are getting answer from us and other people too and you seem to give us here on bowlingboards a hard time when you hear something you dont want to hear.
i seen early lockwood said to you stop worry about changing all the time i understand what he said it means it takes time to get use to something different then what you are use to it wont jsut happen over night it takes practice and everytime you come on you say you went bowling and this was a problem and it could be from all the other questions you want you focus on changing that one thing that everything else has also changed too and then you take it out on everyone here.
so you telling people that dont give you a good answer to never post again how about you stop making stupid posts everyday saying yo0u want to change this, this, this and this because i think alot of people on here are getting annoyed of it and ik i am

what does any of this have to do with a minor ring finger span change?!?
what bowl1820 was saying was creepy. Seriously. Who cares if I post on other forums, am I married to this one?
Just because someone ELSE said that I should stop changing doesn't mean that somehow I need to take his advice. So sorry I don't want to take everyone's advice!
And most of the stuff I'm asking isn't even asking for advice, I just like to talk about bowling, shocking shocking shocking.
I'm telling HIM to not reply because I'm so sick of his BS and making a big deal about how it's ME asking another question, omfg!

ball99999 reason for it is you keep asking questions that are dumb like you keeping making threads saying you want to do this and then your want to do this but form what you said your looking for advice in some threads if your not looking for advice then why make a thread thats a question people on here want to learn about bowling get advice from people on here and then use it.
like me i posted a video i got comments back went back to the lanes to work on a few of the things did well in some but at same time something else of mine changed so i had to think how can i work with this and try to get my other thing back so i went to a coach and asked him and he told me a few things and i tryed them when people say you should see a coach its not saying everyone on here is getting annoyed with the questions its to help you out have a coach on the lanes with you and watch you bowl and he can tell you stuff right there and right then so when you come on here you can say how much you have improved in somethings.
im not trying to go at you but stop making new posts everyday when you are not looking for advice let someone else make the post or make a new thread when you need to look at me i only ever make a new thread when it is a video or something i i think im doing wrong and not fully sure so i ask the question and everyone on here says something they joke around and the info helps and i do what i can to fix it on my own if i can on my own i get a coach.

Heres the problem! Ball9999 You keep posting for advice and we have all tried to help with our experiances with what we've learned over the years of bowling. Yet everyday you have a post making it sound like all the advice we give is'nt helping you. Then the other day you posted how you dremeled half your thumb slug out of the ball to change pitch and some of us were concerned that if you didn't know what you were doing you might hurt yourself. As it turned out you later said you only beveled the top of the hole I think. Anyways what were asking you to do is pick style and try it for a month and see if it's for you,if not try something else. The more you change the way your ball rolls or pitch or hand span or throw the ball, etc the more frustrated you get. It takes time to get used to a style, changing footwork, armswing, release, etc. Give it time and it will eventually come together!

I never said anything about only beveling the top of the hole. It was deep down there. And now the thumb hole is a lot better.
I just don't see how or why everytime I ask anything or start a discussion people have to bring up "oh you never take advice". LIke wtf? People seriously. Stop worrying about how I bowl.

You mean decreasing the distance between your ring finger and middle finger? I've seen some pro bowlers who have those two holes closer together. I wonder what it does.

Ok, At least for me its not that your not taking advice as much as you are flat out insulting people when you get advice you don't like. if you don't like the advice given then don't take it, you can do whatever you want, but you don't have the start swearing and i quote telling people to "bite me"

Ball99999. in all seriousness, please post a video of you bowling so we can see what you're doing and what you might need help with. A picture is worth 1000 words, so several minutes worth at 30 per second is worth millions. I've also finally gotten around to purchasing Mark Baker's Game Changer book and just in the first couple of chapters I've already learned a ton from it - well worth the ten bucks to by the ebook edition. I think you should give it a try - I'm betting you'll find the problem isn't with the ball at all. I've already learned just from what I've read so far that the reason I struggle to maintain a consistent easy swing and good release isn't my ball at all, it's my FEET and my resulting balance at the foul line. That's why last night when I started releasing the ball while standing up straighter I noticed an immediate improvement. It all makes sense, and I'm REALLY glad I spent the 10 bucks on this book.
If you're at all serious about improving your game (and it sounds like you are) then you should start by uploading a video for us to see and you should study your fundamentals - your footwork, your stance, your swing and follow thru and your balance at the foul line. Don't worry about the ball yet or the span or pitch of the thumbhole or any of that. That comes later. Start at the beginning. It's what I see now that I need to do, and I've been bowling off and on for 30 years.

The space they take up is valuable. This forum, as much as you think it is, it's not all about you and your issues. If your posting 10 threads with similar questions, then you're burying threads that other people might find usefull. If a thread isn't on page one, it gets forgotten about, especially when the mobile site only allows you to see page one. Plus, we all know that no one searches for info, they just post a new thread. So we get you posting the same questions over and over, then we get people starting new threads about things they could have found if you weren't clogging up the forum. So we get the same stuff constantly recycled. It almost seems like you keep asking these questions hoping someone has a "magic potion." You will get that one peice of advice, that is easy to do, and make you a pro. Either that, or you are a troll, and you love the attention, either posative or negative. I know you don'r care about what I have to say, but I am telling you straight up why most people are frustrated with you. I'm not trying to insult you, or call you out, just giving you the facts.
