I just got an IQ Tour Pearl and really enjoy the ball, but tonight when the lanes broke down it was way to much ball as the hand adjustments I had to make killed the ball's hitting power. After talking with my dad on the ride home we came to the conclusion that a proper weaker ball for me since I am a high rev player that using an older generation ball would be best for me so we are going to have his old X-Factor plugged and refitted to my hand.

Since I've never heard a bad thing about the X-Factor we thought it would be a good addition since my cousin who also is a high rev player said that his Hy-Road and Frantic are too strong when the lanes break down too so we came up with the older ball idea.

Just wondering on what your guys thoughts are on this idea.

i can say this i have never heard of the x-factor before but the iq tour pearl should work abit when the oil on the lane is almost gone ik one person here where i like has one and he was on same thing as you his first 2 games where alright but below his avg his avg is 221 and his 1st and 2nd games where 201-213 but in the 3rd game he decided he going to play threw the middle of the lane and push it out just abit past pocket and he was going threw all the oil because none played threw middle other then him and he shot a 300 game with it in the last game.

but he is also has high revs hes got more then me and my rev rate is about 450-550 and i throw at 17-19mph and he throws at 19mph.

The X-Factor is an older ball that came out in 2002.

The conditions last night just got to the point where the first two games I was already in the middle of the lane keeping it close, while everyone else was right of me but also keeping it close. So by the third game, the IQ was starting to hook too early and if I got hard enough to get through the midlane, it lost it's carry for me.

Is it drilled for length? The X-Factor would be sweet.

Yeah, at my home house, balls drilled for length work best so I'm having it re-drilled for length, but just a bit more controlled than what my dad had it at since I put many more revs on the ball.

I threw the X-Factor yesterday, and it was as good as advertised even after 10 years. Throwing my normal high speed, I would put it down at 18 to get out to 10 instead of 28 like the IQ Tour Pearl. The real surprise came when I threw both of them slower, the X-Factor's overall hook started to catch the IQ. It read the lane a bit earlier than the IQ and wasn't as snappy on the back end, but it still hit hard. Bowling with the high school team I was able to string 10 in a row with it, so tomorrow night I'm going to see what it can do for a full series.

The X Factor was a great ball in its day. Many people loved it. Worth a try, probably too strong though.

I would recommend going to a solid for when the lanes break down so much. The solid will even out the reaction and not just jump left once it hits the friction. If you are determined to go with a Storm I would recommend a T Road Solid or maybe a Victory Road Solid. The IQ Tour would be okay but I think both that and the IQ would still be too strong. Get them drilled label or something similar to decrease the flare potential.

My plan right now is to use the X-Factor only with a stroker style since when I throw it up 10 it just gives a little flip at the end to give it some hitting power. If playing deep is open I would stick to my IQ Pearl.

P.S. I am a soon to be college grad from a private university, so my bowling ball budget isn't exactly big or even existent. Using my dad's old X-Factor was a way for me to circumvent that problem.

If it works it works and you won't have to worry about it. If not, check around pro shops and other bowlers for used equipment. Our shop sells used stuff for $20-100 so I imagine other shops do it as well.
