Another good night for me on the lanes.

256-290-190 = 736

Always happy to have a 700 series, but not happy this week as I blew chances both nights on shooting 800. I really stunk it up in the last games each night. It all just fell apart on me. All carry went away, I didn't help that last game any by missing a 10 pin last night. Ugh!!

Used Storm Drive again tonight and started game 2 going high leaving a 6-10, then punch out for nice 290. Friend of mine on pair next to us was lighting it up, had 10 boards of room it seemed and anything close to the pocket was striking. What I wouldn't give to have been on his pair last night, LOL!!

One of these days, I'll have one of those. Shot a 279 last night (ring ten in the 9th).

Keep at it. It will come to you when you least expect it.

Just an OK Tuesday night for me. Had an ok look on the lanes, but didn't execute well on the night.

Subbed last night in league that I will be bowling in next fall. This league is massive, 56 teams in a full house. They do all kinds of strike pots etc for extra money.

Had an excellent look all night long. First game failed to execute. Game 2 should have been 300, ball smashed pocket so hard and kept on moving past the 9 pin as it left the pin deck.

I will certainly take 17 strikes in a row from game 2 to 3.

233-279-277 = 789

Just needed one strike in 10th of last game for another 800 series.
Used Storm Drive all night long. Really loving this ball.

Jesus, dude, you were on it!

Thanks Timmy. Felt good that night.

All came crashing down last night though. HAHA!!
Very wet/dry conditions made for a tough night of things.

Break next week as I am travelling for vacation. Thinking about taking a 3 ball roller with me though just to get some practice so I wont be so bored at the in laws.

Nice set....impressive bowling. Way to keep up with the adjustments, to hit the pocket that many times is crazy......but to get the carry also for that many frames was a great job.

Vacation last week and took 3 balls with me. Gotta love Southwest airlines and 2 free bags. Day we arrived I was on Facebook and saw a local tournament so I went out to bowl it. Figured why not. Could only do singles that day, didn't have a doubles partner.

Lanes were so torched. Was able to bowl ok but only shot a 651. Hadn't bowled on such dry lanes inquire a long time and had only equipment for medium to heavy conditions.

Went back to same center for some practice later in the week and bowled amazing. I don't really keep score forr practice as I just go to get some repetitions and work on timing etc. Was hitting mark and striking pretty much the whole 3 games that I paid to practice. Easily an 800 series.

Ready to get back at it this week. Have a scratch tournament coming up on Saturday.

Another nice night on the lanes. Had trouble carrying at key points on the night. Why does it always seem like everyone else carries but me. :crying: LOL.
3 non pocket shots on the entire night. Couldn't believe my eyes in game 3 7th frame where I smashed the pocket and left a 7-9!! 7 pin was spinning and another pin rolled over which looked like it would take it out, but just slowed it's spin to stabilize it to mock me.

I won't ever turn away a 700 series, but this one was a hard fought one due to the poor carry I had for the night.

Used Storm Drive games 1 and 2 and then changed to Sure Lock in Game 3.

Scratch singles tournament yesterday. Shot pretty well and my last game put me into a cashing position.

269-216-216-213-193-268 = 1375

Some poor carry in the middle games made it a grind. 2 splits on the day and 2 missed 10 pin conversions didn't help matters either. Was 14 pins out of match play and settled for 8th place and made my entry fee back. Some great competition out there and I held my own.

Won the 50/50 pot which is the first time I have ever won.

Back again today for some Baker doubles action.

vdubtx
03-26-2018, 11:00 AM
Well the baker doubles didn't go as well as I had hoped. I was just not getting out of the ball very well and tugged a few too many shots hitting high and leaving either a 4-6-7, 6-10 or even crossing over and leaving 5-10 splits, I left two of those on the day. My partner had his moments as well. Uggh! Think I need to invest in another interchangeable thumb or two.

We ended up 1 place out of the last cashing spot. We did end up making some money on brackets so it wasn't all bad.

Catching back up:

Tuesday 03/27 - 253-189-257 = 699
Thursday 03/29 - 279-200-207= 686
Thursday 04/05 - 262-173-215 = 650

I shouldn't have bowled this past Thursday. After a delayed flight out of Rochester from my USBC Open Championships trip, I pulled an all nighter in Baltimore due to missed connection. I was just plain tired after the first game. Back and ready to get into league mode again.

Solid spare shooting for me this week. Went 30 clean on both of my nights.

Tuesday 225-207-213 = 645
Tried to use my new Roto Grip Idol in practice, but it started hooking as soon as it hit the lane. Put it away and used Storm Drive for game 1 and most of game 2 before changing to Roto Grip Haywire.

Thursday 246-245-268 = 759
Solid night in my heavier volume house and used the Roto Grip Idol for all 3 games. This ball is strong. Had a beautiful swinging shot standing on about 30 and out to about 5-6 at breakpoint and it made a very strong move to the pocket. In this house it will be my go to ball for sure, sad that leagues are coming to a close though. As long as I get it out on the lane I have no worries about hitting heavy. Anything inside the ball is so strong it will not hold and it hits up a bit high. Didn't have any shots cross over or fear of splits. Had 3 4 pins leaves due to a bit inside on my shot. Very impressed with this ball at the mid price level. Will need to get some video shot of this one in practice this weekend.

Solid week on the lanes for me this week.

Tuesday
247-210-215 = 672
Used the Idol for game 1 & 2 as it now has some lane shine on it from being used a few games. End of game 2 I was stubborn to make ball change and paid for it leaving split in 9th frame. Changed to Drive and was in pocket the rest of the night, but carry just didn't go my way.

Thursday
247-184-244 = 675
Idol was ball of choice, had a very good look all night long. Tugged the ball three times on the same lane for some reason. Left 3-6-9-10 to start the game and left the 9 pin standing, next time up on same lane left 3-6-10 and picked off the 3 from the leave. Oi Vay!! Next time up on the same lane, greek church....OUCH!

Good note for the week is 10 pin pick ups were 100%, 10/10.

Oh well, on to the next week. :)

Missed a week of posting scores:

Tuesday 04/24
248,256,218 = 722
Used Sure Lock all 3 games. Hadn't used it in awhile.

Thursday 04/26
183,221,223 = 627
Struggled with pin carry all night long. Missed 10 pin in very first frame of game 1, then missed a 2 pin of all things in 10th frame of game 1. Oi Vay!!

Tuesday 05/01
279,195,179 = 653
Great start to the night and then everything fell apart. Lanes became very over/under and I struggled to get lined back up again. Made moves left, changed speed, changed balls and never found it again.

As the fall leagues are winding down, I am looking at a sport shot league for the summer. I will also be doing some fit maintenance on all of my equipment. Had my span changed last fall which has worked for me really well, but I still feel something is off. Sometime not getting out of the ball very well and it affects targeting when I am tugging due to it.

Thursday 05/03
Struggling with carry and also with mental focus in this "fun" league. This will be my last year in this particular league.

173, 233, 239 = 645
Game 1 could just not string anything together, a missed 10 pin and a pocket 7-10 put a damper on this one.
Games 2 and 3, pocket the rest of the night and just could not get 10 pin and others to fall. Adjusting didn't seem to be working either. LOL!!

Tuesday 05/08
Was not feeling well, but that is the only excuse I have. I just plain did not show up and one of my worst series of the entire year between my 2 leagues.
Not much else to be said of this night. Put it in the back of my mind and move on. This was first sub 600 series the entire season in this league. D'OH!!
168-202-188 = 558

Thursday 05/10
In the pocket 33 of 34 attempts. Struck 23 of those times. Ten, yes ten 10 pins on the night. Good thing out of this is I converted all of them.
Non pocket shot was high leaving 3-6-10. I need to figure out my speed a little bit as I feel that is the biggest culprit to my 10 pins on the night.
30 clean for the night. Woohoo!!

205-258-247 = 710

Tuesday 05/15

Started off really well using Hyper Cell Fused and didn't move much all night long aside from adjusting to 10 pins.
280-247-222 = 749

Thursday 05/17

Struggled on the night. Finding the pocket but again in this house the carry was abysmal. Missing right a few times and missing a 10 pin on the night with a split to end things on a low note in game 3.
214-234-173 = 621

Bowled a Trios tournament this weekend.

The tournament was match play style. 2 points person against their opponent, 4 points for team win. 10 points total per game. Tournament was handicap and we of course knew that going in and ended up being our downfall.

We were in first place after game 3. In game 4 we were up against a team that had 221 pins handicap against our 72, so a tough hill to climb of 150 pins. They took 8 points on us and we then swapped places dropping to 2nd. They were all 160-170 bowlers that bowled well above their stated averages. They just had alot of really lucky pinfall. They were not very good, but they got the pins to fall just being near the headpin. Too many Brooklyn strikes to count. Lol.

In-game 5, again, we were up against the same team and had that hill to climb. We ended up taking 6 points in the game, I bowled 268 to help the team take totals and beating my man. Both of our teams got leap frogged by other teams after this game. My team dropped to 4th while our opponent dropped to 3rd.

So for game 6 and the 3rd game in a row, we were again up against #teamhandicap, lol.
Their anchor, my opponent, had a 240 scratch game, 305 handicap!! D'OH! I beat him scratch as i bowled 256, but I only got 8 pins handicap per game and never had chance. Our team only took 2 points.

We ended up sitting tied in 4th place which was the last spot to go to Baker style match play games. We got beat out by the team with the highest total pinfall which was only by 24 pins. A bittersweet ending to the tournament for us. Oh, and #teamhandicap ended up winning the whole thing. Seemed nobody could beat their extra bowler worth of handicap. Lol.

On the day I started rough only bowling a 190 game, but I never looked back and ended up with a +240 pin performance and averaging 240 on the day. Felt really good once I got lined up after the first game and barely even moved the rest of the day. Also, never even made a ball change. Used my Roto Grip Idol for all 6 games.

Games of 190, 268, 223, 238, 268, 256 = 1443, 240.50 average. 100% single pin conversions, left 9 10 pins on the day.

Collected our prize money last night for our league. We do doubles and singles events on the night since no points are awarded. Doubles you pay $1 each and can be any combination of bowlers to enter. We do not do 9 pin no tap on this league.

I shot really well again last night. Too bad it doesn't count towards averages. LOL

Using my Hyper Cell Fused again last night and it matched up perfectly. In pocket all but 1 shot when I got lazy in fill of 10th frame on game 3.

245-248-267 = 760
1 open frame, a 10 pin to start game 2.

Well, started my sport shot league for the summer this week.

The league is a draft league and is based on entering average. 48 bowlers total. Lowest 16 averages are team captains and draft from the remaining bowlers to add to the Trio's team. Going into the league you just have no idea who you will be bowling with.

I got picked kind of in the middle of the pack and bowl with one person I know and the team captain that I didn't know.

We bowled this first week on the PBA Dick Weber pattern, will bowl on the pattern for 3 weeks and then it changes. This week was a big embarrassment for me. Couldn't get lined up correctly. When I thought I did and got a double going, next shot would be off with a wash out or a light hit split.

Games were:
146 - Used Roto Grip Idol. 4 opens on the game 3 were splits, 2-10, 2-8-10, 2-8-10. Missed a 3 pin to start out the game. D'oh!!
172 - ball change to Storm Drive and had a better look. 3 opens, 2 splits and both 2-10's. Chopped 6 off a 3-6 leave.
160 - Switched to Sure Lock and kept ball inside. Score doesn't show it, but I actually had a better look and will remember for next week. In pocket on left lane and right lane gave me fits. Left lane 10 pin followed by 4 strikes. Right lane, 1-2-10, 4 pin, 2-10, 3-6-10(left 3 pin standing on conversion). 5-9 and a strike to finish out the night.

146-172-160 = 478
Well under what I have averaged before on sport shots.

Only one way to go from here and it is way up. HAHA!!

Pulled out a 3rd place finish in a 40 and over 8 game scratch match play tournament over the weekend. Qualified 4th for stepladder. In first match of step ladder, needed to strike out to win first match, pulled it off.

Next game gave the eventual winner of the tournament a run for the money. Had a nice clean game and was in pocket each ball. Left 2 4 pins and a 10 pin. Carry just didn't go my way. Used my Roto Grip Idol for all 10 games. Took the ball to a 2000 grit before starting the tournament. This ball is just so controllable and doesn't jump off the spot.

Averaged right at 218 in a tough house. Was a grind the whole day. The A/C in this center was not working very well making a hot a sweaty day.

Sport shot league week 2 didn't fare much better than week 1.

Have some issues with my hand after the tournament on Sunday. Blister right at the base of my index finger and my thumb was swollen. Had a hard time getting out of the ball. Progressed up my interchangeable thumbs and had a nice release and line in game 2, but thumb continued to swell into game 3 and just had bad time releasing well.

171-220-147 = 538

Think I will start more in the middle part of the lane next week. The pattern is a lighter oil pattern at 45' and I have been trying to use the outside a bit and moving in, when I moved in for game 2 and got a good release it was looking very good.

Good thing is, I beat my man game 2 and in totals so I won the match.

Uggh!! Averaging 169 in the sport league now. Still only one way to go from here LOL!!

Sport Shot Week 3

Had a better week using my strategy of staying inside more and not playing outside as much. Started at about 11-12 in game 1 and 2, then started moving in to about 14-15 when we were in to game 3. Started game 2 with the front 6 before tugging and going through the nose. Ball started to move quite a bit more at about this time too.

178-235-182 = 595

Getting better, and, just as I start to figure out the pattern and how I can play it, we change patterns next week. LOL

Johnny Petraglia pattern for the next 3 weeks. Maybe the shorter pattern will be a better one for me. Not likely, but it is fun to get some practice on patterns instead of the same old walled shots.

Been awhile since my last update. Had some vacation time since the last time I bowled.

Johnny Petraglia pattern was actually a pretty fun one. I didn't shoot all that well, but was figuring it out as I went along.

June 25
171-180-160 = 511

I was high on the pair. My teammates struggled mightily on this one. Had a few washout misses as I got the ball out just barely too far and ball struggled to make it back to pocket. Missed a few single pin leaves as well.

Average is down to 176 for the 4 weeks I have bowled. Didn't bowl this past week as was on vacation, and won't be bowling next week due to work requirements.

When I return week after next we will be on another pattern so will be learning that one to start out. Not sure what the pattern is just yet.

Ready to get back into the swing of things. Haven't bowled league in a few weeks. Had vacation and work the past several weeks so it kept me away.

I did get a few games in on vacation, bowled with a buddy of mine and his son to get together. Bowled a 300 the last game for our get together.

Got some practice in yesterday, just a few games. Was extremely hot in the center so couldn't take it any more.

I do know for our sport league tonight, we are on the Carmen Salvino pattern. 44ft so should be a nice challenge.

7/16 Sport Short - Carmen Salvino pattern
186-165-147 = 498
Season average at 174 through 15 games.

Played an inside line which is what I did research on from prior PBA shows on this pattern. Worked for awhile and I just did not make big enough moves during the night. Was super hot in the center and that is certainly not my favorite thing to deal with when bowling.

Anywho...on to next week.

Been awhile since my last update:

The 7/16 date was supposed to be Carmen Salvino, but was actually the Mark Roth pattern.

7/23 Mark Roth
176-150-137 = 463 horrible spare shooting led to my poor night.

7/30 Mark Roth
195-169-137 = 501 spare shooting better, but not doing so well on transition on this pattern

8/6 Carmen Salvino
167-159-200 = 526 did better on this pattern once I moved right and went up about 7, the lane opened up for me.

8/13 Carmen Salvino
200-213-200 = 613 It's been while since I shot 600 on anything let alone a Sport Pattern. LOL! Missed 2 make able spares on the night so I should have been closer to 640.

Season average is right on the verge of hitting 175 at 174.93

One more week to go and our team has firmly locked up last place. LOL!!!! Oh well, it was a good time and learning how to play the patterns was a lot of fun. I think this will certainly make me more versatile and make transition a bit more apparent to me, hoping I can catch it earlier this season and get my average up even more.

Last night of the Sport Shot league.

Spare shooting was good on the night, only misses were on washouts, 2 of them. Picked up 3-4-6-7-10. Hit my Idol with a 1000 grit pad before bowling and had a nice line to the pocket. Very touchy if barely left it went high.

175-197-207 = 579

Ending league with 176 average for 30 games. Not great, but I did learn that I can play an outside line with my performance the last couple weeks. Many of these patterns, if I had learned earlier in the season to play outside, I would have been better off than playing the middle of the lane. My spare shooting early on in the season was atrocious, so glad that has made a come back.

Ready to get into the Fall seasons after Labor Day. Bowling 3 leagues this fall. My regular tuesday league - 5 person competitive teams. Adding Wednesday in a HUGE league, 58 teams with lots of money potential. I subbed a few times on Wednesday this past year and did really well. Thursdays giving up my usual mixed fun league for a Trio's late league that has many of the best bowlers in the area competing. This league is at about 9pm on lanes that are not re-oiled so will be a nice way to learn to bowl on fried up lanes.

So, stepping away from the fun mixed leagues and upping the competitive aspect of my season. Will continue to bowl miscellaneous tournaments as well. Have a big Dallas area tournament this Saturday evening.

My goals for the next year are:

1. To not have a series below 600, I had 5 series under in 2017 season.
2. Keep my single pin spare shooting(especially 10 pin) in the mid 90% range. Not counting 10 pins last league season, I was picking up 96%, 10 pin was picking up at 90%.
3. Adding a few more honor scores would be most welcomed this next league season as well.

League Kickoff last night and not too much to report. I felt I bowled just so-so, was able to put some strikes together but open frames killed me in first four frames of games 1 and 2. Not to make excuses, but I tweaked my back last week and have been in a bit of pain since then. Tylenol doing it's thing and a heat pack yesterday helped. Better today so on the road to recovery. Bowling last night actually helped stretch it a bit.

200-224-215 = 639

Game 1 ended with 5 bagger to salvage a 200 to start the season.
Game 2 actually had the last 8 strikes for a whopping 224 LOL!!
A wiggling and then flagged 10 pin in 10th frame of game 3 ended what should have been in the 240's.

Spare shooting was atrocious. Only made 1 multi pin spare on the day out of 5 makeables. Not good at all.

Cobwebs are dusted off and on to my first regular Wednesday night league.

OK, so my number one goal can be scratched off. We encountered some seriously crappy lane conditions last night. LOL!!

173-189-212 = 574

Not much else to say other than I had zero carry and lots of 10 pins, only missing 1 on the night. Otherwise it was just a spare shooting kinda night.

Week 1 of bowling is in the books.

Last night was much better, on a Trio's league that is a late shift league after mixed league is done. So, lanes were starting to burn up. We bowl 4 games each night in this league and it is a match play format. Many of the regional tour players are in this league.

255-223-256-211 = 945 for the night. Not a bad first night in a completely new(to me) league.

Happy to say that I was able to work through that the transition of bowling on burning up lanes and adjust accordingly. Made last minute decision to give my trusty ole Roto Grip Haywire a 2000 surface and a little bit of polish and that is what I ended up getting the best look with. Made lateral moves and kept swinging it further and further down the lane. My target started at about 45 feet down lane standing on about 27 and crossing about 17 at arrows. I think I was at about 50 feet down lane and standing on 33 and crossing 21-22 at arrows by end of last game.

Spare shooting on the night was very good. Didn't miss any makeable spares but did leave 4 splits on the night.

Team mate shot a 299 in game 1. He tugged it just a bit leaving a stone 9 pin.

A pretty good night, kept myself clean for 30 frames and had some strings that helped the team out. We took 3 last night only losing last game by 8 pins.

Game 1 260
Game 2 226
Game 3 213
Series 699, couldn't get just one more pin to get an early start on 700 series for the season.

Game 1 had a great look on both lanes. 4 frames into game 2 and the right lane was really starting to transition, didn't strike on that lane what seemed like the rest of the night. LOL! Only 2 errant shots on the night where I muscled the ball a bit much and left 1-2-4 leaves each time.

Used my trusty old Roto Grip Haywire again. This is truly a benchmark ball for me.
I likely should have changed balls when I started having issues on right lane, but I'm stubborn sometimes when it comes to that. Need to learn to do that a lot better.

Another good night and a clean one with an asterisk*. More on that down below.

Game 1 = 244
Game 2 = 299!! left a 10 pin.
Game 3 = 243

Series = 786

Used my Storm Drive that I have used in this house before and had success with it when I subbed on this same team earlier in the Spring(when I shot 789). Decided to get it out and give it a shot after switching to it late in the set last week. This ball just suits the conditions perfectly. Doesn't over hook when it encounters friction, and makes it way through the oil in the fronts.

The 10 pin I left on game 2 my speed was a bit slow on the shot and wasn't a really good one. Went slightly high and was a bit of a mixer, but 10 pin stood like a Buckingham Palace Guard, no movement at all...not even a wiggle. LOL!!

Game 3 I knew I was in position to get to 800 once I made it through 6th frame with 5 strikes and a 10 pin. Went oh so slightly light in 8th frame leaving a 2-8 and then struck in 9th. 10th frame I knew I needed to strike out to get to 800 on the button. Struck on first ball, and then choked and tugged the ball and left a 6-9-10. Picked up the 6-10 but the 9 pin just wiggled on the conversion try. So, almost clean, but I think since that was in the fill, I'll count it as another 30 clean set.

More importantly, our team is on the board and taking all 4, after our disastrous first week where we lost all 4.

Late posting of my Thursday league last week:

Games 1 and 2 were essentially mirrors of each other, fighting to find a good line and was clean the first 9 frames of each game and then split in the 10th of each. Used Roto-Grip Haywire
178-172

Games 3 and 4 were also essentially mirrors with me finding the pocket on each shot covering a ton of boards and finding a hold spot on the lanes. Used Storm Hy-Road Pearl
245-248

Total 843. Not a bad night considering how I started the night out. Happy with how I was able to adjust and find the right ball for the conditions.

Tuesday league

We were on end of house that is more of a "private room" than a typical bowling center. Hadn't ever had to bowl on this end of the house, but adding in that we were on lanes 1 and 2, I knew we were set up for failure. LOL!!

Game 1 235
Game 2 212 missed a 10 pin
Game 3 205 missed a 10 pin and a 4-6-7 split.

235-212-205 = 652

All in all not a terrible night, but the lanes were literally flying by end of game 1. Why is it end pairs are always so danged tricky?

On to tonight and hopefully repeat performance from last week. No expectations to do so, but can still be hopeful. :D

Game 2 196
Game 3 192

246-196-192 = 634

Tough time again tonight. Made some good shots, but left lane was a struggle after game 1 was in the books. I never missed on right lane, but really struggled on the left.

2 opens on the night, 4-6-7 and a 2-10, both on left lane.

Game 1 245
Game 2 221
Game 3 224
Game 4 205

Total = 895

Used my trusty Haywire for games 1 and 2. Game 3 started and was transitioning quickly, didn't catch it soon enough and I threw 2 splits in a row. Change to Hyper Cell Fused and swung the lane, had a few flat tens once I started doing that, but was atleast in the pocket and not going through the nose.

Won 2 of my games, but was going up against a guy that was getting 32 pins each game. Kinda tough to overcome that when the old guy is striking. LOL.

Tuesday night league

204-231-202 = 637

Bit of a rough night. With my sore back and hamstring being tight was a very slow start. Didn't hit pocket in practice, LOL! 2 opens in first 4 frames and then started to loosen up a bit. Switched from Haywire to Idol and didn't miss pocket rest of game 1. Proceeded to smash pocket all but once in game 2, left a 4-6-7-9 in 5th frame and almost picked it up. Game 3 lanes were transitioning and switched to Hyper Cell Fused, went high leaving a 3-10 and failed to convert it, then in 10th frame left a 4-6-7.

By end of bowling last night and stretched out they were feeling pretty good. Back and hamstring are feeling a bit better today.

212-225-206 = 643

Had a bit of a rough night with my hamstring very painful all night long. I likely shouldn't have bowled, but I sucked it up anyway.
Got too slow a few times and paid for it with a split here and there. Missed only one makeable spare, a 4-8. Last game the right lane was giving me fits, noticed in game 2 my Drive started to come up light so I made adjustments and ultimately a ball change to get a better finish and even balling up was finishing light. Finally in 10th frame took out trusty Haywire and struck out to salvage the 206.

Thursday Late league

196-224-202-289 = 911

Had a pretty good look with Haywire for the first 2 games. Game 1 I got my line too far inside and left two through the nose splits. Game 3 started to change balls and had a good look with my Hy-Wire but it ultimately was not the right ball choice as it was just hitting flat 10 after flat 10. Last shot with it left a 2-4-5 which I proceeded to pick off the 2-5 from it. That and chopping a 6-10 were my only makeable spare misses on the night. Ended up changing to Hy-Road Pearl and found a good line in the 10th frame of game 3. Game 4 started out going a little light and leaving a 2 pin. Now I had something to work with, ran off the next 10 before leaving a 9 pin on the fill ball for a nice 289.

Lost games 1 and 2 to my opponent by 7 and 6 pins respectively, game 3 he fell way off and I trounced him. Game 4 he had no chance once I got lined up again. Took last two games and totals by over 150 pins.

Really liking this league a lot. Learning how to play with difficult conditions is going to help my game in the long run.

Tuesday Night

215-233-256 = 704

Game 1 started out with Sure Lock, had troubles with carry and one frame dumped the ball missing the head pin entirely. LOL! Covered 3 10 pins in the game to go along with 2 8 counts.

Game 2 Sure Lock seemed like it was laboring to finish through frames 1 and 2, switched to my Idol and had a better look. Covered another 2 10 pins in the game.

Game 3 Continued with Idol and had a good look, double to start, dumped the ball again and went light on head pin leaving 2-5-8, ran off the next 6 before smashing a 10 pin to start 10th frame.

All in all a good, 30 clean night. Wish they were all clean like this one.

Another good night on the lanes with 30 clean!!
Team took 3 last night giving 185 pins per game in handicap.

247-256-249 = 752

Game 1 using the Storm Drive started a bit slow and leaving a 3-10, covered that, turkey, 6 pin, 4 bagger, 10 pin and 7 pin in the fill.

Game 2 stuck with Storm Drive starting with a turkey, 10 pin, turkey, got fast and left a 2-5, turkey and 10 pin in the fill

Game 3 stuck with what was working Storm Drive, strike, 10 pin, 6 pack, 10 pin, strike to start 10th frame and another 10 pin.

5/5 on 10 pins for the night. Missed pocket twice when I got too fast. I can also attribute the 10 pins I left to being a bit too fast on them as well.

Seems like it is all sorta coming together. My spare game is back on track, covering 94%(92/97) of my single pin leaves with 10 pin at 89%(43/48). 10 pin is the only single pin leave that I have missed so far this very young season.

I really do believe that the sport shot league I bowled in has helped immensely. Also, bowling in the late shift league on Thursdays is helping me make the adjustments on drying out/burned out lanes and which pieces of my equipment to go to that can be effective on those types of conditions.

Thursday Late League

A solid night, but not a clean one. If I ever get a clean series in this late league I will be extremely happy with the accomplishment. All makeable spares were covered though, but did have 4 splits on the night. 2 in game 1, 1 in game 2 and 1 in game 3. Game 4 was clean. WOOHOO!!!

208-234-225-223 = 890

Team won 27 of 30 points in our match play format. I took all 5 points on the night against my opponent. Game 2 I struck out to help the team win, I was the only one to win point against my opponent, but won by enough that we took the game.

The lanes were really moving as soon as we started tonight, left lane was tricky with right lane having a small hold spot down the lane. Very speed sensitive on this burned up condition so had to keep my speed up tonight.

Games 1 and 2 used Roto Grip Hy-Wire
Game 3 switched to Haywire to start and then using Hyper Cell Fused on left lane with Haywire on right.
Game 4 Hyper Cell Fused on both lanes until 8th frame switching to Hyroad Pearl.

On to next week. Thought about bowling an ABT tournament this weekend, but gonna skip it to get my equipment resurfaced in advance of a trip to the Greater Tulsa Open next weekend.

Rough night

217-202-172 = 591

Will just start by saying that my first frame in game 1 set the tone on how the night would go....unfortunately. LOL Pocket shot and a fantastic 7-10 staring back at me. Was just a night of all kinds of back row pins, 4 pins, and 2 more pocket 7-10's in game 3 to cap off a very rough night for me. I didn't things along to start game 3 though, left 10 pin to start the game and rushed my spare attempt and dumped it in the channel. Then next frame went way outside and ball never recovered leaving a 1-2-8, picked off the 1-2 to start the game with 2 makeable opens. Pocket 7-10's in 4th frame and 10th frame of this last game.

Oh Well!! On to tonight.

236-212-234 = 682

Game 1 couldn't string more than a double together. Very speed sensitive on the night. Any time even just slightly fast just kept on skidding. Left a 4-8 in 2nd frame, then was double 10 pin, double, 4 pin, double to start 10th frame and slowed speed just a tad and left 6-10.

Game 2 started with strike, then left 2 splits - tugged two in a row leaving 3-9-10 and then 4-10. Turkey then another where I either got too fast or my ball just would not finish left 2-8-10. I ended up thinking it was the ball and went to my freshly surfaced Idol and punched out to salvage the 212 game. Punching out also helped out team win the game. Our anchor only needed to strike to seal it up and her did.

Game 3 I continued with how I ended game 2, turkey to start then ball came off my hand weird and left a 5 pin LOL! Strike, 10 pin, bucket - got too fast, turkey and 6 pin to finish out the night.

The speed I had on this night would be really good for my late shift league tonight, hopefully it stays with me and I can put in a good series.

Thursday Late League

184-243-219-172 = 818

Rough night to say the least. Team mate gave me an old ball of his to try on the dry lanes and he gave it to guy we both use to have pitch plugged, not bad for $45. He gave me a Brunswick Rhino Pro Gold. Very nice of him, tried the ball out a few shots in practice and it seemed to roll pretty well. Not exactly what I was expecting, I may need to change surface on it to take a bit out of it, but it seemed to like to push a bit too much to my liking as I think I was playing a bit too deep with it. In any case, I ended up putting the ball away after about 7 frames, 3 of which were splits. Switched to Hy-Wire which was able to get me through games 2 and 3. Then started to get flat 10 after flat 10 in game 4 and it went downhill after that, pulled spare shot on a 3-6-10 and was not comfortable getting to the pocket the rest of the way.

Two highlights on the night:
1. Converted a 6-7-10 as one of the 6 or 10 pins bounced off the curtain to take out the 7. Part of me wishes it was just a 7-10 with the same result.
2. Same team mate that gave me his Rhino Gold. I am buying his Roto Grip Halo from him for $50. He just didn't like how it rolled for him. I'll spend another $45 or so on that for pitch plugging. Score!!

Went this weekend to Tulsa to bowl in the Greater Tulsa Open. I had a very early start to my day on Saturday morning as we bowled at 9am. In years past, I usually drive up to Oklahoma City and stay at my brothers place over night. Then in the morning take the 1.5-2 hour drive to Tulsa. This year though, work schedule etc didn't allow me to do that. So, up and on the road at 4am to make the 4 hour drive up to Tulsa from my home.

Team event was first.

247-222-206 = 678

Each of the first 2 games had 1 bad shot, got light in game 1 leaving a 2-10 and through the nose in game 2 leaving 4-6-7-9. Game 3 I left 5 10 pins which really kept my score to a minimum.

Covered all of my makeable spares on the day so I am happy about that. 6/6 on 10 pins conversion.

Sunday we had Singles/Doubles

Started out with a really good shot in Singles. One of the only times that I can say that I had a perfect 900 if doing a 9 pin no tap.

248-227-248 = 723

10/10 on single pin conversions. 68% strike percentage. Just needed a bit more luck on carry and this was easily an 800 series. 4 10 pins, 2 7 pins, 2 9 pins 1 8 pin and 1 5 pin(which was actually a 4 pin that slid over LOL!) were all that were standing in this set.

Doubles the lanes got really squirrelly in game 3.

213-220-172 = 605

Game 1 I had one open and it was in the 10th frame. Still kicking myself on this one, 7 pin standing and I whiffed the spare, I got too slow on the spare and ball hooked right in front of it.

Game 3 was just trying to keep ball on right side of the head pin. Transitioned through a few different balls to find a good line. Didn't find the right one quickly enough. LOL!!

All in all it was a good trip to Tulsa.

678-723-605 = 2003 for my all events score. I may make about $20 with this score.

223-234-258 = 715

Started off not feeling like I had a good shot. Something just seemed off and was not repeating my shots. Would get a double going and then throw a 7 or an 8 count going high. Covered my spares which is the important thing when I am feeling just a little off. Used the new to me Halo and was giving me an ok look. Switched to my Sure Lock mid way through game 2 and it gave me a much better look. I went deeper with it(16-17 at arrows) and it was just what I needed. Doubled with it to start before getting slow, then ran off the next 4 to finish the game. Game 3 started with a smash 9, strike, 10 pin, got a bit fast leaving 2-8, then punched out with the last 8.

Felt good to put that together after feeling a bit off to start off the night.

Game 1 started with a 10 pin, 7 pin, then went sheet until last fill ball of 10th frame and a 9 pin. Was perfect pocket on each shot.
won game against opponent by 6 pins!!

Game 2 started out light leaving 2-4-8, struck, 6-10 which proceeded to pick off the 6. Oi!! strike 9 pin, 6 bagger then went through the nose leaving big 4.
lost game to opponent, he had front 9 and then split in 10th.

Game 3 started strike, a weird leave 6-9, double 4 pin, turkey, 6-10(covered this one), 4 pin and strike to finish.
Really needed the first strike in 10th to beat my opponent. I lost by 1 danged pin.

Game 4 the lanes REALLY transitioned to an over under reaction. Double to start, greek church, 10 pin, 6-10, 3-6 and chopping the 3, strike, 4, pin, 7 pin, strike and 3-6 to finish out the night.

Felt pretty good on the night. Used my Roto Grip Hectic last night until the last 5 frames where I switched to my Hy-Road Pearl. The hectic had just enough to get through the burned up heads and not over react until it got over under, then it would jump early.

184-244-214

No excuse for my first game. I was in the pocket every shot, completely tugged a 9 pin conversion in the 3rd frame. This was my first single pin miss(aside from 10 pin) in this league this year. Followed that up in 5th frame with a 10 pin miss. Then had another 10 pin miss in 10th frame fill. Very poor execution on my part.

2nd game was still the pocket until 6th frame and lanes started to transition a bit going high leaving 3-6-10. Converted that and then went light leaving 4-7. Punched out after that.

3rd game was clean and fighting with making enough of a move due to the transition. Kept it clean leaving a smash 8, 10 pin, 6-10, 7 pin, and a 3-10 to start the 10th.

Still a bit of a struggle to put anything together. Everytime I would get a turkey together I would leave a 10 pin. Just no good carry on the night.

Started the night off in grand fashion with a pocket 7-10 for the only open of the night for me. Covered 6 10 pins tonight.

On to tonight.

Wednesday League.

A better night and was able to actually string something along atleast.

236-214-268 = 718

Game 1 started with a strike and then lanes were already jumping on me. Went through the nose with a 4-6-10. Struck, 9 pin, through nose again leaving a 9-10 split LOL! Covered it. Made a move and punched out with the last 7. Used Storm Drive.

Game 2 started great, turkey then a 10 pin, I rushed my shot and missed it, 9 pin then another 10 pin. Double and then went a bit light leaving 4-7. Struck to start 10th frame and then another 10 pin in the fill. Used Storm Drive.

Game 3 started with a ball change going to my Roto Idol. Came in light leaving a 5 pin to start. Made another ball change to Storm Sure Lock and ran off the next 5, got a bit outside leaving a 2-7 baby split and covered it. Ran off the last 5 for the night.

All in all felt I was throwing it pretty good. Have to keep my mind in the game as I think when I was missing or getting slow my mind was on something else. Need to be sure and focus every shot.

Team mate threw a very nice 821 series with a 300 the last game. He used an old ball he had in his truck. He had forgotten his regular equipment at home after he resurfaced them. LOL!!! Roto Grip Hustle Pink/Onyx/White. He better be using that ball every week from now on.

Thursday Late League

278-244-177-259 = 958

Game 1 started with Roto Haywire as there was actually still some oil left on the lanes. Had a great look and was feeling good with my shots. Front 5 then got barely inside in 6th and went high leaving 4-7. Punched out for 278. This league is match play and I was needing make up 14 pins handicap each game. I lost this game by 5 pins. SMH!!

Game 2 stuck with Haywire, double to start, 10 pin, 4 bagger, then a nice surprise with a pocket 7-10, both pins wiggling and staring back at me. Turkey and 9 pin in fill to finish out. Won match by 4.

Game 3 started with Haywire and lanes were quickly deteriorating. Through the nose 6-7-10 to start, 10 pin and whiffed it. Double and then a 7 pin, 3-6-10 going too heavy. Decided ball change was in order and got my trusty Hy-Road Pearl, strike too slow 3-6, double and just barely high in fill 4-7-9. Lost match by 8.

Game 4 Hy-Road Pearl continued to give me a good look as long as I didn't get too inside with it. Turkey, 10 pin, strike, 10 pin, then punched out for 259. Won game by 11.

Won match totals by a measly 2 pins. Fortunately my opponent threw a 7 count in his fill and gave me the totals win.

All in all a very good night. My best so far on this late league. As long as I have some oil I am OK at finding a line to the pocket. Definitely something I need to work on when the lanes are toastier.

Tuesday Sportsman

186-216-237 = 639

Picked up my new Winner Solid ball and used it for games 1 and 2. I had this one drilled given the new specs to go into effect next year, so no weight hole in it. It might sound weird, but I think I can tell the weight difference without a hole in it. Felt pretty top heavy for some reason. The ball was in the pocket except for 2 shots where I dumped it and it couldn't make it back for 7 counts on those 2. Pin carry was just nowhere even close to being on my side.

Started the night out with a 10 pin and I rushed the shot on conversion and missed it. I really need to get this under control. I feel this sets up the rest of my night, but I need to focus and do my thing. Had 5 more 10 pins on the night.

Switched to Halo on game 3 and had a better look, atleast was getting some better carry. Again in pocket with each shot.

Oh well, lots of spare shooting on the night and 29 of 30 clean. I will take it even though scoring wasn't all that great.

Not a bad night, was able to string a bunch along but got bit by the tug bug a couple times. LOL

Game 1 started with Storm Drive, strike, 8 count going high, 4 bagger before tugging and leaving big four, strike, 10 pin, 9 pin and went fast 2-4-5.

Game 2 stuck with the Drive, 9 pin, 6 bagger, 10 pin, 10 pin, 4 pin and big four in the fill. Time to change balls.

Game 3 switched to Hyper Cell Fused, 9 pin, 8 bagger, got outside and went light 2-5, strike to finish out.

Our team was going up against some really close buddies. One of our opponents is actually my ball driller and has shot an 899 in this same house. I went up against him in our match up.

246-234-270-171 = 921

Game 1 started with Roto Grip Haywire - Double, high leaving 4-7, turkey, 10 pin, turkey and 7 pin the fill. Beat my opponent by 60 pins!

Game 2 Haywire - strike, 7 pin, double, 4 pin, pocket 7-10(grr), 5 bagger and 3-6 in the fill. Beat opponent by another 50 pins! He was really struggling on the night.

Game 3 continued with Haywire - high leaving 3-6, strike, 10 pin and then punched out with the last 9. Beat opponent by 70 pins. Ball was really starting to go high the last couple shots. Started to think about ball change. Beat opponent by 70 pins!!

Game 4 - through the nose to start with a 4-6-7, changed to Hy-Road Pearl and doubled, high leaving 3-6 and picked off the 3 on conversion, 10 pin, strike, 9 pin, slow and leaving 4-6, switched again to my new Hustle INK went a bit high 6-10, struck and then a 10 pin in the fill. Not really knowing what the Hustle would do, I gambled on the first shot and it bit me with the 8 count. I ended up losing the match by 1 pin, but can't attribute that to the ball change, the missed spare is what did it.

All in all a very fun and challenging night. As a team we won 3 of the 4 games and took totals by 200 pins. We shot 2826 total scratch as a team.

I am still chasing the very elusive 4 game set where everything is going my way. I will certainly take my 750 for the first 3 games. I was just in a zone and piping the Haywire down the lane with speed and it was working great.

On to the next week.

Can't seem to get anything going in this league. Been stuck in the 640-650 range for the last 5 weeks.

Didn't bowl on Nov 27. Had family I needed to get to the airport early the next morning.

Nov 28

Didn't have a consistent reaction on the night. 2 splits on the night from going a bit high. Otherwise all spares covered.

This was a fun one. Trio match play league and we were in position round. We were going up against 2 guys that are PBA bowlers. My opponent, one of the PBA players, beat me the first game by just 5 pins, I won games 2 and 3 by a total of 87 pins, he then beat me game 4 by just 6 pins. I got him covered in totals. By end of the night my opponent wasn't very pleased. Overall as a team we split the night. We finished in 12th place for the first 3rd of the league. Not too shabby.

Couldn't get out of my own way it seemed last night. Felt pretty good overall aside from a couple errant shots.

Game 1 went really light leaving 2-4-10, strikes mixed in with 8 pin and a couple 10 pins, then close it out with a 5 bagger.
Game 2 double to start, 4 pin, tug going through nose leaving 3-6-9-10, 4 bagger and got fast leaving 7 pin, struck out.
Game 3 slow leaving 6-10, double, 9 pin, turkey, 2-5-8, 3-6-7(which I converted), 6-10 and 4 pin in the fill.

Used the Roto Grip Halo for all 3 games. Game 3 I should have changed balls as it started going high the last few frames.

One open each game of first two games. Left a 3-6-10 and chopped the 3 off of the leave. Then missed a 10 pin in game 3 along with a 4-6-7.

Game 4 I was getting some good reaction and started with the front 7, then in 8th frame went through the nose leaving the 6-7-10. Struck in 9th and then left 3-10 in 10th to finish out the night.

Started off with my leg giving me some trouble. Leg is still bothering me going on 2 months now. Took a few extra shots to get me loose tonight.

Was able to string some together though which helped out team to finally be on the positive side of winning some points.

259-242-242 = 743

Game 1 struck to start, went light 2-8, 6 in a row, 8 pin, turkey to get our team back and split the game with the other team. .5 points is better than none. LOL!!

Game 2 was much like the first Strike to start. 10 pin, 4 bagger, except in frames 7 and 8 I lost my way a bit, bucket and 3-6-10, turkey and a smash 9 in the fill.

Game 3 turkey to start, 10 pin, got slow, 6-10, 4 bagger, 10 pin to start 10th and then big four to finish out in the fill.

Felt like I was making my shots aside from 2-3 wayward balls where I either tugged or got too slow.

Storm Drive was ball of choice once again in this league. The lane surface and conditions certainly match up really well for me here.

Also, 30 clean on the night.

Pepsi Classic Trios league

Always go into this night not knowing exactly what is going to work since we are the late league after 5 member teams have already bowled.

Well, practice went well with my Haywire and I also tried my Hyper Cell Fused. Had a good line with both balls and I decided to use the Haywire knowing I could transition to the Hyper Cell Fused if it didn't work out.

Well, the Haywire performed incredibly for me.

278-255-255-189 = 977

Game 1 started out with the front 7 before leaving a 10 pin, turkey and a smash 8 in the fill for a nice 278. Beat my opponent by 95 pins.
Game 2 continued much like the first, front 7 before going a bit high and leaving 3-6-10. Strike, 10 pin and 4-7 in the fill to finish with a 255. Beat opponent by 16.
Game 3 continued with Haywire, double to start and then a 10 pin which I missed converting(this comes back to haunt me), run off the next 7 before going high leaving a 6-10 in 10th for another 255. My opponent started stringing some things together and he beat my by 12 pins.

The 10 pin leave haunts me, because I lost 12 pins from that and from the 1st 2 games I was at 533. Picking that darned 10 pin up would have given me 267. 533+267 = 800!!
I could have also struck out to achieve the same score. But, I will certainly take my 788 through 3 games for the night.

Game 4 I decided to stick with the Haywire.

6-10 to start, strike, 7 pin, then a pair of 3-10's only converting 1 of them. Changed balls to HyRoad Pearl and struck in 6th frame, went high 6-10, then high again 6-7-10. Switched again to Hustle INK and went turkey and smash 9 pin to finish out.

In hindsight, I should have gone with Hustle from the start of game 4, but I didn't think I threw it well to finish game 3 and start game 4 with the Haywire. I always tell myself, don't make a change on a bad shot. Wasn't really a bad shot, just the lanes transitioning more than I wanted to realize I suppose. Took me until the 5th frame to finally make a change and it ended up being the wrong choice. Always learning and I will hopefully put this in my memory bank for future weeks. This last game has become my nemesis in this league. Only averaging 210, while games 1 through 3 are in 224-227 range.

Game 1 started with the front 6, 4 pin, 10 pin, double and 10 pin in fill to finish out the game. Was felling pretty good, all shots nicely in the pocket.

Game 2 strike, 2 pin, double, 4 pin, punch out. Aside from getting a bit fast in frame 3 leaving 2 pin, all shots nicely in the pocket.

Game 3 5 pin, strike, went high leaving 6-9, double, dumped the ball leaving 2 pin, 4 bagger and 6-10 in the fill.

Ball of choice on the night was the Storm Drive. A nice 30 clean for the night.

243-223-183 = 649

Gave my Storm Drive a little bit of surface before starting practice hitting it with a 2000 grit Trucut pad.

Overall I felt pretty good and was getting into the pocket, double to start, 6 pin, double, 10 pin, got fast leavin 2-4-8, 4 bagger and 8 count in the fill.

Game 2 started with 4-6, turkey, fast leaving 2-4, 2-5, turkey, 2-5 to start 10th frame and strike to finish.
Game 3 with 10 pin, 5 pin, strike, 10 pin, 6-7-10, strike, 10 pin, strike, 10 pin, 4-7, strike in fill.

Late to post from my Thursday league action.

We started out and I go to my usual ball, Roto Grip Haywire, and as soon as it hits the lanes, it hooks. Wow!! Crazy! Use various balls to try and get a line in practice, but everyone is having the same issue.

Come to find out that the center had an issue with their lane machine after it got to lane 23. It broke down, so basically from 24-48 they were not run.

The night was an adventure to say the least.

193-199-187-148 = 727

Was able to keep myself completely clean on makeable spares. 8 splits on the night. I did convert a 5-7 split, 5 pin went into the curtain and bounced back out hitting the 7 pin.

Was certainly not fun by any means, but, all on the pair experienced the same issues. I did see some people end up just putting in a blind score so they wouldn't have to bowl on the conditions. LOL!

Started the night out not feeling all that great, attitude kind of sucked too. Stressful day at work with a busy January looming over me.

182-279-244 = 705

Game 1 started with strike, right lane was giving me a very different read in practice, went through the nose leaving 3-6-10 and picked off the 6-10 for an open, great. Strike, lined up again on right side for 10 pin, 10 pin, 10 pin again on right side which I missed. 10 pin again and then...you guessed it 10 pin one more time. Struck in 9th frame and then finally made the right adjustment and struck to start 10th, slowed down too much in fill leaving 3-6.

Game 2 started to feel a bit better and ran off the first 6, adjusted my target in 7th frame on right lane as the last strike in 5th frame went a tad high tripping a 4 pin...but it went in flat and I left a 10 pin. Punched out for a nice confidence boosting 279. Every shot in very nice into the pocket

Game 3 started with front 4 before laving a 10 pin, strike, lanes started transitioning here, went high leaving 3-6, then 6-10, strike next 3, then dumped ball leaving 1-2-4 in fill.

All in all a good night, except for the spare misses in game 1.

Horrible scores to report this week. Lanes were horrible with no oil on them at all. This is almost exactly a repeat of what happened this past Thursday, but in a different center. Only this time, the lane machine didn't break down. The "technician" just didn't check and put oil in the machine. All seems to make sense that this was at an AMF center that has no regard for the league bowlers that fill up the house on the night.

After last weeks debacle where we had no oil on the lanes, we were back to normal...bowling on blown up lanes from the early mixed league.
A much better night for me.

235-236-214-246 = 931

Game 1 started with 10 pin, double, 7 pin, high leaving 4-7-10, 10 pin, punch out with last 6.

Game 2 10 pin again to start, high leaving 4-7, double, 10 pin, 4 bagger, 4 pin, strike in fill.

Game 3 double, 6-10, turkey, then a pair of 10 pins, strike and 4-6-7 in 10th frame.

Game 4 has typically been my problem game, it is my lowest average game. 6 pin, strike, 2-4-5, 6-10, ran off the next 6 and then dumped the ball leaving 1-2 in the fill.

Felt like I really threw the ball well tonight, using Hyper Cell Fused for all 4 games. Thought about switching to start game 4, but just made a 4-2 left move instead and it worked out pretty well.

How do they define “makeable”? Anything that’s not a split or a washout? Or do they consider the baby splits as makeable?

I'm guessing its all spares except splits. For last night mine shows makeable spares as 12/18 and then below that shows Single pin spares as 5/6 and multiple as 7/12. Below that shows splits as 1/2 so they are not calculated in that. If you add vdub's single pin spares to his multiple pin spares they equal his makeable spares

Was so close to the elusive 1000 series in this 4 game late league. 2 7 count leaves in game 3 stopped me from getting there, also a couple poor carry leaves stopped me from reaching that goal to hit it this season. Started the night off pretty rough. Right lane was playing very tight and my first two frames up on that lane I got my ball out too far with no recovery of it. 2-5-8 in first frame and 1-2-10 in 3rd. Did not convert in 3rd frame. Was able to get a couple mixer strikes before coming in light in the 9th frame and leaving a washout which I converted, then turkey to finish first game.

Game 2 was much of the same light hits as I tried to keep a bit too tight. Clean game, but could not get anything strung together.

Game 3 I started to swing the lane a bit and had some really good reaction. Started with turkey, 7 pin, 10 pin, 4 bagger and then 10 pin in 10th frame which I whiffed the conversion of.

Well I finally achieved a goal in my late trios league. I shot a 1000 series. Woohoo!!

256-279-243-254 = 1032 to be exact

12 pocket shots in game 1, 6th frame a wonderful 7-10 split followed by a 10 pin in 7th frame.

12 pockets shots in game 2 with a 9 pin leave in 3rd frame, then ran off the next 9.

Game 3 started with turkey before going slightly light and leaving a 2 pin. 4 bagger followed by a 2-8, 3-10 to start 10th frame and tried a test shot going high leaving a 4-7 in the fill.

For anyone counting, I had a Varipapa 300 from 9 strikes to finish game 2 and into game 3.

Game 4 started with 5 bagger, 10 pin, double before going high with a 3-6-10, double in 10th and 4-6 in the fill frame.

Was feeling great all night long with my trusty Roto Grip Haywire.

Felt pretty good all night long. Right lane had a hang spot that I found a couple times and ball did not finish going light. Used Roto Grip Winner Solid all 3 games. This ball has been great for me since I got it re-drilled.

225-256-257 = 738

Game 1 got tripped up by a 2-10 split in the 2nd frame. 10 pin in the 4th and 10 pin in the 9th, struck on the rest of my shots.

Game 2 started with 4 bagger, went REALLY light hitting that hang spot on the right lane in 5th leaving a 1-2-4, strike, over compensated for the hand spot went through the nose leaving 3-6, 4 bagger and 9 pin to finish out the game.

Game 3 9 pin to start, 6 bagger, 10 pin, light on right lane again 4-7, struck out.

Hoping to keep this up.

Had another night where had a hang spot on the right lane, different house than Tuesday.

Used Storm Drive all 3 games.

Game 1 went high on first shot leaving 6-10, 10 pin, double then light leaving 2-8, strike, 10 pin, 10 pin, turkey and a 7 pin on the fill.

Game 2 started with front 6, 10 pin in 7th, double and another 10 pin to start 10th frame, struck in fill.

Game 3 turkey, 10 pin, got slow with a 3-6, strukc, high again 6-10, double and 10 pin in 10th and another 10 in the fill.

30 clean for the night with a total of 7 10 pins left.

Put together another nice set in this late league.

300-243-268-226 = 1037

811 for the first 3

300 #12 and 800 #3

Felt so good to finally get carry to go my way after getting so close the past few weeks.

Here is shot #12 from my 300 game. Nerves were definitely there(do they ever go away?) and I got it a bit slow, went high flush.

Used my Roto Grip Hyper Cell Fused for all 4 games.

Using my new Storm Physix for the night in practice and had a hard time getting loose. Did not hit pocket once during practice, was me and not the ball, that's for sure.

225-217-285 = 727

Game 1 stuck with it and started with turkey, 8 pin, double, 7 pin, double and 10 pin to start the 10th. Missed the 10 by a long shot. Ugh!!

Game 2 ball was still rolling really well. I just had no carry, Strike, 2 pin, 4 pin, strike, 10 pin, double, 9 pin, double and 4 pin in the fill frame.

Game 3 I made a 3 board left move with eyes and feet due to what I was seeing in the last half of game 2 with some 4 and 9 pins. Started with the front 10 before I dumped the ball with a very poor release, the only bad release I had on the night and left a bucket. A bit frustrated and did not convert it.

The Physix is going to be a good ball for me.

On to tonight.

2nd league session with the Storm Physix and it really rolls incredibly well. Really liking the shape that this ball is giving me.

237-243-233 = 713

Game 1 started with double, 10 pin, strike, got a bit firm with it and a 2-8, turkey, firm again and another 2-8, strike out.
Game 2 double, bad release 1-2-4-10 washout missed 10, 5 bagger, 10 pin, strike out.
Game 3 2 pin, 6 bagger, through the nose missing transition on the lane 4-6-7, strike, high 6 pin, through nose in fill 4-6.

All in all a great night. Aside from a few bad releases and firmness from me a few times on right lane, was a great night.

Thursday Pepsi Classic late league

Well, keeping my good trend of shooting going this week. Was a good set overall, but was really helped out with that first game.

299-216-236-224 = 975

Game 1 - what can I say, front 11 and then a smash 9 pin. I noticed my ball on each of 10th and 11th shot that I needed to move. 10th shot had a late tap on 10 pin, 11th shot went ever so slightly high with 4 being tripped out. Made a 1.5 board move left and ball hit pocket but continued on and leaving a stone 9 pin standing.

Game 2 started with big 4, needed an even bigger move left on this lane now, 4 bagger, 10 pin, strike, 10 pin, strike, 10 pin, 9 pin.

Game 3 turkey top start, 4 pin, got slow 6-9, strike, slow again 3-6-10, turkey and then 10 pin to finish out 10th.

Game 4 double to start, 6 pin, double, 7 pin, really high 6-9-10, strike, got fast trying to adjust 2 pin, double and 7 pin the fill.

Felt was throwing it really well, carry on the night for my team mate and I on some shots was just not there.

Tuesday Sportsman

We were on a pair that I really didn't like, well, not just a pair but a section of the house we bowl in that is walled off that they call the VIP section. The lanes always play so differently and the atmosphere is just so markedly different than on the other side of the wall. It is warmer in there and the lanes hook a lot more too.

Anywho...222-214-239=675

Game 1 started with Physix and it had a nice deep line to the pocket. Struck to start followed by a smash 9, strike, I hit the out of bounds area in 4th frame leaving a washout that I did not convert, light again in 6th 2-4-8, 5 bagger followed by a high hit in fill leaving 3-6-9-10.

Game 2 got slow to start and noticed also that the Physix was just a bit too strong. Changed to Hyper Cell Fused to get some more length. Double, 2 pin, double, 10 pin, 7 pin, double, 8 pin to finish out the game. Just could not get anything going.

Game 3 started with 5 bagger, 10 pin, strike, 9 pin, strike, 2 pin to start and strike in fill to finish the night out.

All in all felt pretty good, just couldn't get carry to go my way on the night.

Game 1 went light 2-5, 7 bagger, got too fast 2-8, struck out.

Game 2 strike, 10 pin, strike, light 2-4, 5 bagger, 10 pin, strike in the fill.

Game 3 strike, got ball inside too far leaving 4-6-7 split, 4 bagger 4 pin, double, 7 pin and strike in fill.

Thursday Pepsi Classic Trios

Had a great night on the same pair of lanes that I was on this past Tuesday. I fared better than I did on Tuesday night. I think the focus is just there more on Thursday nights since it is a much more competitive league and it means something when I am bowling against someone and gives us a point for beating opponent each and every game.

228-262-243-266 = 999

So danged close to finishing out another 1000 series in this 4 game late league. Have been throwing it really well the last 5 weeks in this league.

Game 1 started with 4 bagger, did not hit ball on release and it just sailed down the lane leaving a super washout 1-2-4-6-10 and only got 3 on conversion attempt, strike, pocket 7-10, 4 bagger and 10 pin in the fill. Got my point by 14 pins.

Game 2 started with the front 8 before getting the ball slow and in(never a good combination) and left the big 4, struck out.

Game 3 Turkey to start, 4-9 which I converted, bucket, turkey, 10 pin and struck out

Game 4 started with front 6, 10 pin, 4 pin, turkey and an 8 count with a 3-6 on fill ball.

That 8 count cost me the 1000 series again. LOL!! I am certainly not complaining of feeling down about it. Just very happy to be bowling so well. Gonna keep taking it one shot at a time.

Oh, and the ball of choice for last night was my trusty Roto Grip Haywire for all 4 games.

After game 2 using my Physix, I saw some over/under reaction with it and decided to make a ball change. The ball I decided to change to was my Hyper Cell Fused. Struck first shot with it, but then had trouble every shot after. I either got slow or got it too far down lane....just generally all over the place. Epic Fail!

Another pretty good night on the lanes. Had a couple bad shots where I tugged or didn't hit ball at the bottom. Not hitting the ball is likely my most common mistake. I really need to work on that when I get some coaching soon.

223-236-256 = 715

4 weeks in a row with 700+ in this league. Unfortunately the first game put me out of the eliminator.
In practice started with Physix and saw too much friction as it went high every shot I made. Switched to Winner Solid and that gave me a good look for all 3 games.

Game 1 started strike, 4 pin, turkey, tug for 3-6-10 twice, double, 6 pin, strike to finish out.
Game 2 started with 4 bagger, pair of 10 pins, double, 7 pin, 4 pin and strike to finish.
Game 3 started with front 8, missed hitting at the bottom of swing and left 2-10 split going light, 2 pin to start 10th and strike to finish.

Can't complain one bit other than about myself when I tugged or didn't hit bottom of swing. All on me.

Thursday Pepsi Classic Trios

Bit of a rough ending to my night. Started out pretty good with some nice games and beating my opponent by just 1 pin in game 1 and almost 100 pins in game 2. Games 3 and 4 it seemed nothing was working for me. Ball changes and different lines worked for a few shots and then went away. Some very fast transitions needed and missed a few of them. LOL!! Had a cut on my middle finger open up on my first knuckle which was a bit of a bother on the night, but I powered through it.

238-233-175-194 = 840

Games 1 and 2 were both clean.
Game 3 was clean until 8th frame when I left 3-6-7-10 and then a big 4 in 10th.
Game 4 aside from a really weird 5-7 split in 2nd frame and then a 2-8 in 10th frame was clean. Was in pocket every shot until 10th frame. Just no carry to speak of.

Oh well, team did well and we won 18 of 30 points on the night placing us in 9th place for the 2nd third of our league. 1st third we were in 12th place. We are 6th place overall for the season.

No bowling for me next week, I will be travelling for work. :(

Look forward to what March will bring. I am going for coaching sessions for my birthday I think. I think I will give the USBC's ITRC a try for coaching and see how that goes. Very interested to see what they find with my game and what tweaks they can suggest for me.

Back at it this week after having a full week off from leagues due to work travel.

Tuesday Sportsman league

231-202-205 = 638

Game 1 started out pretty well, 10 pin to start, 5 bagger, 10 pin, bucket, over compensated from bucket leaving 4-5-7, struck out.
Game 2 strike, 10 pin, strike, slow leaving 4-6-7-9, double, 10 pin, 10 pin, 8 pin, double and 10 pin to finish out.
Game 3 double, 2 pin, 10 pin, strike, 10 pin which I missed, 6-7-10, 4 bagger to finish.

Picked up another new ball, the Storm Crux Prime. I keep winning balls on line, which I am certainly not going to complain about. Dropped it off at my driller and picked it up just before league started. Specs on the ball are a 4" pin and the mass bias is kicked way out vs. more of a stacked layout as on my Physix. See some pics below.

Might be hard to see how far the MB is pushed out to the right, but here we go.

Started out using the Crux Prime.

239-202-259 = 700

Game 1 double to start, 7 pin, strike, 4-9 which I converted , strike, another 7 pin, struck out with 5 bagger.
Game 2 started with double and then more of the back row pins started to show up, 8 pin, 9 pin, 9 pin, 10 pin which I missed, 4-6 split, made a ball change to Physix and got a turkey and then a 2-8 in the fill to finish out.
Game 3 stuck with the Physix, strike to start, got slow with a 3 pin, 4 bagger, 9 pin, 5 bagger to finish out.

In retrospect, when I started leaving back row pins in game 2 I should have changed ball sooner. Could just be bad luck on the run of 4 back row pins, but next shot showed me it's more likely the Crux Prime was bit too strong on the conditions.

Thursday Pepsi Classic

Had a good night overall and felt like I was throwing the ball really well. I was getting to the pocket, but was just not getting the carry I would have liked.

183-212-236-206 = 837

Game 1 started with Physix
Strike, 10 pin, barely high with 4-10, strike, 7 pin, 10 pin, strike, 8 pin, strike, changed to Haywire on right lane left 10 pin, 4-7 in the fill.

Game 2 started with Hyper Cell Fused on right lane to see if that gave me a different look and threw it bad.
1-2-4-10 to start, strike, 4-6-7-10, strike, back to Haywire on right lane and strike and first double of the night, 9 pin, double, 4 pin, strike out.

Game 3 stuck with Physix on left lane - Haywire on right.
6-9-10, 10 pin, put Physix away and using just Haywire now, 6 pin, 5 bagger, 7 pin, 6 pin, and striek in the fill.

Game 4 stuck with Haywire
4-7-10, 4 bagger, 10 pin, strike, 10 pin(did not convert), strike, 6-10 and strike in the fill.

15/16 on makeable spares with 3 split mixed in for a pretty good night I felt. Was able to keep ball in play most of the shots that I kept my speed in check.
I did notice on my 10 pin miss in the last game, the miss was exactly the same way I missed on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Seemed the ball hung up on my thumb just a bit and it went just barely left of 10 pin on the tries. Will have to check my thumb and maybe open it up a bit more.

On to next week.

Started the night out with Crux Prime. Tried it and Halo in practice and Crux was finishing much better.

242-220-245 = 707

Game 1 started out really well with turkey, left a 7 pin which I missed(first one all season long after 244 games). 4 bagger, went high 4-7, double and then high again leaving 3-6-10. That 7 count, or missing the 7 pin, could be counted as why we lost the game by 3 pin.

Game 2 started with double and both going a bit high just tripping a 4 pin out, got out too far 2-5, high leaving 3 pin, switched up to Halo since Crux was finishing so hard, 4 bagger before going through nose 6-7-10, 6-10 and strike to finish out.

Game 3 made another ball change to Physix went high 3 pin, high again 4-10 and then made another switch to Hustle INK, 7 pin, 7 bagger and 6-10 in fill.

All in all I was making some good moves with my feet to keep the balls in play. Afraid of going too deep and then leaving flat 10's so I made ball changes after the ball started hitting higher as the night progressed.

Great start again on the night. Used the Crux Prime to start. Felt a little off during practice with my thumb feeling like it was not holding the ball real well. I have felt this before and likely need to get another thumb drilled up to help correct this. Likely a pitch change, but for now added an extra piece of tape and it wasn't too bad.

289-258-234 = 781

Game 1 every shot solid in the pocket...until 11th shot where I left a 10 pin. Ball was maybe a little outside and didn't recover enough. Struck to finish it out.

Game 2 Again every shot in the pocket, started with 4 bagger, 10 pin, 4 bagger, 10 pin, strike. I needed 2 marks in 10th to win game for the team. Made it a bit more difficult leaving the 10 pin, but at that point, I needed an 8 count to win in the fill. Won game by 3 pins.

Game 3 strike, 4 pin, 4 bagger, one bad shot on the night got it out and left 2-4-8, double, 4-7 and 10 pin in the fill shot.

30 clean frames and so close to both 300 and 800 again. Better still for the team, is, we took all 4 last night.

A bit late posting this, but had the ITRC lesson more on my mind over the weekend.

Our team was going up against two PBA tour players. Anthony Lavery-Spahr and Sean Lavery-Spahr. I was up against Anthony. If you saw the PBA league draft yesterday, you will see Anthony was drafted to be on the LAX team.

196-269-212-210 = 887

Game 1 I was having a bit of trouble getting a consistent reaction on both lanes. Left lane was just fine, it was the right lane where I encountered a hang spot leaving super washouts 2 times in the game. Anthony beat me by only 9 pins.

Game 2 I was lined up really nicely. Left a smash 8 pin to start the game, 4 bagger, then a 10 pin and struck out. I beat Anthony easily on this game with him shooting 231.

Game 3 I started going high and leaving a few 6-10's. Started with 6-10, 4 bagger, 6-10, strike, 6-10, strike and then way too high leaving greek church to finish out. Anthony struggled with a 176.

Game 4 Started with front 5 and then everything fell apart, 6-10 and pick off the 6 pin on conversion attempt, 6-10, 6-10, strike and then left a 6-9-10. On the spare conversion, I picked off the 10 pin only off of it. Crazy!! Anthony shot 225.

I beat him on totals, but I should have won game 3. Kicking myself for that because as a team, we lost totals by only 2 pins. UGH!!

Anthony's brother Sean struggled on the night, he only shot 790!! He was playing super deep at 28 at arrows. When you have as many revs as these guys, it's tough when the lanes are so tore up on our late league.

Picked up a new ball in the afternoon and had a good look with it in practice. I really liked how this one rolled at a Mega Demo that was in Dallas a few weeks back. Boy, it did not disappoint. This ball rolls so stinkin' smooth.

Game 2 started with 6-7-10(slow again), 7 pin, turkey, 10 pin, double, 6-10 and chopping 6 off on the conversion, 6 pin and strike to finish out.
Game 3 4 bagger, 6-10, 5 bagger, 6 pin.

Awesome bowling, I've been loving my Idol Pearl as well, have been averaging 235 with it over the last 9 weeks across 2 leagues. Ball is clean and comes off the spot great without being too jumpy. I find it very controllable for a pearl ball that gets down the lane that easily. With position rounds and roll offs coming up I found the ball at the right time, hopefully the same case for you.

Game 1 started with dumping the ball and leaving 2-4-5, 6 bagger, 7 pin, turkey and light leaving 2-5-7.

Game 2 double, 2 pin, turkey, 3-6-10 got inside, 5 bagger to finish out. Noticed the ball finishing a bit higher flush in pocket so I picked speed up a bit.

Game 3 strike, a pair of 10 pins, 5 bagger and another 10 pin, strike and then a lazy shot leaving 4-6-7 in the fill.

30 clean on the night.

Wednesday Nascar league

Bit of a struggle all night with carry and tugging issues.

Was able to string couple strikes together each game to salvage an OK series on the night. Split in each game and a whole bunch of 9 counts.

Thursday Pepsi Classic late league

Games 1 and 4 were good, the middle 2 games I had an extremely rough time.

238-177-181-234 = 830

Game 1 Some bad carry with a couple 7 pin leaves, 9 pin and a 10 pin mixed in with strikes.
Game 2 Started to have trouble staying in pocket. Through the nose several time, 7 pin which I whiffed, 4-7-10 mixed in with few strikes.
Game 3 Wash out to start and did not convert, couple strikes along with a few 10 pins, one I did not convert. Just all around poor performance.
Game 4 continued like the prior 2 games, 7 pin, 3 pin, 3-6-10, 5-10(converted), strike, 6-10, punch out after I started piping the ball up the middle with more speed.

Even though did not bowl too well, was able to get 4 of 5 points from my opponent.

Onwards and upwards to this week. State tournament coming this weekend. Gotta get my tournament hat on and get some good sets in this week to keep my confidence high.

Tuesday Sportsman League

This night could be titled "The Tale of Two Lanes". LOL!

202-236-238 = 676

Game 1 started with Crux Prime - Double to start, 4-10(which I converted), strike, greek church, double, 7 pin, 7 pin, strike and yet another 7 pin to finish out.

Game 2 Seeing what I saw on left lane with a couple splits and seeing how much I was moving to stay in pocket, I switched to Idol Pearl. Doubled to start, 2 pin going too fast, turkey, 2-8, strike, 1-2-4-8 ball just not finishing on right lane. Double and 9 pin to finish the game out.

Game 3 I stuck with Idol Pearl on left lane, and brought out Physix on right side. 8 pin to start, double, 2 pin, strike, 10 pin, 4 bagger and 4 pin in fill.

Not a bad night over all. Executed on my spares and made some good ball changes. Just needed to make the change a bit sooner I think.

Texas State USBC Open tournament:

Had an early 8:30am start on Saturday. Location was in Ft. Worth which is roughly 70 miles from home, so up real early.

Doubles and Singles first:

234-262-234 = 730

Game 1 I got quick on one shot leaving 1-2-8-10 in 5th frame(failing to convert it). A pair of 10 pins were other two leaves in this game.
Game 2 front 5 before going quick again in 6th frame leaving a 2-4-5 and then quick again on conversion and did not convert, another 5 bagger and then 10 pin in fill.
Game 3 double to start 2-5, 4 bagger, 7 pin, 10 pin, strike and then a weird 4-9-10 in the fill.

Not a bad start, my double partner struggled only shooting 560. Made some money in brackets against a pretty danged good squad. Several Texas USBC Hall of Famers bowling.

Singles event went a little bit differently. Poor spare conversions cost me on this set. Just poor performance on my part.

215-204-235 = 654

Game 1 I left a pair of 10 pins and failed to convert them both exactly the same. 1 board left of each and the ball making the pin wiggle slightly as it passed the pin. LOL!! Gathered myself and got a 5 bagger going and another 10 pin in the fill for good measure.

Game 2 - 4 pin, 10 pin, double, 2 pin, 10 pin, double, 7 pin and I flagged it, D'Oh!! 7 pin to start 10th and struck to finish.

Game 3 3-6, 7 pin, 4 pin, turkey, 2-8, turkey and 7 pin in fill to finish out.

Sunday back at it at 830am for our Team event.

201-266-231 = 698

Game 1 strike, 4-9 tripped me up to get things going, 4 bagger, 9 pin, 3-10, strike, 10 pin, 10 pin in fill.

Game 2 double to start, got slow 3-6-10, 7 bagger and 10 pin in the fill.

Game 3 7 pin to start, double, 3-6, turkey, 10 pin(failed to convert), turkey and slow in final ball leaving big four which cost me another 700 series. This has happened to me a couple times before where last ball of a set I get too slow. I will have to remember that for future and make sure I am not getting lazy on last ball.

So, overall Total events score of 2082 which I will take for sure.

As for brackets, I was up on the weekend. Lost 2/3 of my brackets to start Team event yesterday, was pleasantly surprised I didn't lose them all, then won the rest of them after I got my head out of my rear.

Another lack luster performance last week on my Thursday late league. Just absolutely horrible pin carry. Another guy on the pair had so many mixer strikes it was crazy. I could pound the pocket and leave a back row pin no matter what adjustments I made. LOL!! JUst the way it goes sometimes:

208-188-211-207 = 814

Didn't help that I missed a couple makeable spares. Missed a 6-10(chopped the 6), and a 3-6-9 chopped the 3-9 of all things. Also had a pair of 6-7-10 splits.

Oh well, on to one of our last few weeks of leagues. In all 3 leagues, my teams are in contention to win them. So I have got to pull it together.

Tuesday Sportsman League

Battling it out last night with first place team last night.
We were perfectly matched with 0 pins going either way in handicap last night. An extremely rare Scratch Night.

My "A" game finally showed up again. The other team did too and they really shot well beating us 2nd and 3rd game. We won game 1 by 3 pins.

257-286-224 = 767

Game 1 with Crux Prime had a really nice look. Strike to start, 7 pin, 5 bagger, made adjustment on right lane but got speed a bit slow and went through the nose leaving 3-10. turkey and 2 pin to finish out the game.

Game 2 still with Crux Prime and continued to make shots, each and every one nice into the pocket. On shot 11, I dumped the ball, missed it at the bottom and left 1-2-4-10 Oi-Vay!!

Game 3 started with turkey and then the back row started to show up. 9 pin, double, 4 pin, 10 pin, 8 pin and a 2-4-5 to finish out the game.

Felt good to repeat shots and in the hunt for another 800 series. Couple of those back rows falling and I would have been there.

Wednesday League

What started out as what seemed was going to be a good night, turned into some back row pins and some light hits for me. Targeting was pretty good, got a bit fast a few times on the night.

214-203-289 = 706

Game 1 started out pretty good with turkey with my Storm Crux, then started to leave some back row pins. 8 pin, 7 pin(which I flagged- Oi Vay!), 9 pin, strike, 4 pin, double and a 2-4-5 in fill of 10th. In 8th frame, rather r than keep moving I decided to go to my Drive. Worked for a few frames.

Game 2 started with Drive and was much of the same 9 pin to start, strike, pocket 7-10, got inside 3-6-10. Switched back to Crux Prime and moved left a board and half. 4 bagger then a 2 pin. 2-4-10 in 10th to finish out the game.

Game 3 Stuck with Crux Prime and got something going with the front 9. Last bowler on other team left a 1 pin in 9th frame and pin setter knocked it over. Had to wait until they could reset a 1 pin of all things. LOL!! Up in the 10th and got a good shot off.

Collected myself for the nervousness to come in 11th shot. Started my pre-shot routine of getting my ball, wiping it off with my shammy, drying my hand off and started to get up on approach. Looked at the rack of pins and there was no 5 pin in the rack. Re-racked, but one thing that I didn't do was to start my pre-shot routine from the very begninning. I never put my ball back down, held on to it the whole time. I did wipe it off again with shammy, dried my hand and then got up on the approach. 11th shot was a bit too fast and left a 2 pin.

Was it in retrospect, the holding on to the ball while I re-racked and not completely resetting myself, or was it the shaky knees and nervousness? LOL!! Oh Well!! Making some progress. Put myself in position twice this week to close it out and came up short.

This league does strike pots every night and when someone misses when their ticket is called, it goes in to a pot that is used at the end of the league. The league is up to an almost $24,000 pot that will be used for strike pot tickets next week. I won a strike pot in game 2 for $140! Next week should be very interesting and could prove to be very fruitful if our team gets our tickets drawn to shoot for some big money.

Thursday Pepsi Classic late league

Another challenging week in this league. Last night was just a frustrating one with really bad pin carry. I felt like I was shooting really well aside from the 19 single pin leaves I had on the night. 8 10 pins, 5 9 pins, 2 7 pins, 2 4 pins. Just could not get enough strikes going to even score well. Every adjustment made literally did not make a difference LOL!!

Not as cool as the Aslan vs. Iceman Invitational...but I may tune in just to lend some bowlingboards.com/forum support!!!

10:45AM Saw VDubtx in the opening pair; since then he's been camera shy. Not sure why he's picking up his swing leg...I thought he was keeping that down after is lessons at the training center. Scoring pace looks high and approaches look a bit tacky. Joel Blanchard looks strong early. As they read off the leaderboard, midway through qualifying, I didn't hear VDub's duo...so they may need to pick things up to get back in the hunt!

11:25AM Vdubtx's team has a big game 5 and have moved into qualifying contention!!!

12:15PM Games 5 and 6 put them back in contention...but VDub struggled with some splits and a low amount of carry in Game 7 on the televised pair.

Thanks for the support! Was a great time bowling on sport conditions against some very well known bowlers. You mentioned it, the approaches were very tacky. Had chances of rain all morning and made it very humid. I bowl this center on Tuesday and Thursdays and they are never tacky, so I chalk it up to the weather.

My partner and I gave it a good run, hit a couple tough pairs, including one of the live streamed pair and carry just did not go our way. Put together a couple nice games to get us up the standings and then hit the stream pair. Have it another good game to close out the town tournament for us to keep my confidence up.

Only made appearance on 2 streamed pairs as we were moving 2 pairs left each game. Brief appearances on the outer pairs on the stream according to my wife and couple friends that were watching as well.

On the day I was +40 over, so a 205 average. I am very happy with that and certainly boosts my confidence. I made all 19 single pin spares on the day, missed 2 makeable opens and only had 6 splits.

High game of 244 and a low of 176. A very nice primer going into Nationals in Vegas next week.

I was wondering if you guys were going to re-enter, but I heard the entry fee was $400 per team (not sure if there was a re-entry discount).

I've never been in tournaments with that high of an entry fee...but I know in some of the local ABT tournaments...the entry fee can get in the $60-$90 area...or in poker tournaments I've played in where you could spend $80-$120...and the worst feeling is when you re-enter...and it doesn't go well...because now you've spent even MORE money and got nowhere.

There were a couple young kids on camera in the 2nd round, who had re-entered, and they were NOT doing well...and you could just see the frustration.

vdubtx

Yeah, had other stuff to do after I bowled so couldn't do reentry squad. Plus another$200 without is more than I would want to spend.

Also has a couple young guys who are really great bowlers that struggled. Hanrahan/Haugh did reenter and they struggled the reentry as well.

#2 Multi pin spares. Fortunately my usual practice center has Qubica software where I can spot any combo of pins I want.
#3 shooting at all spare leaves with spare ball. I have switched my spare ball to my Fever Pitch Urethane ball and has been working out pretty good.

Started up my league season last night and it was ugly!!

My wrist was hurting pretty badly as I got warmed up. I use a neoprene wrist support, but man, did it hurt.

Scores were reflective of that issue I was having, but no excuse as I did it to myself by not bowling but a few games in total over the entire summer.

198-193-192 = 583

Game one was setting up to be a pretty good one with only strikes and 9 counts until 10th frame where I got slow and went through nose for a greek church. Then I picked off the 10 pin on 2nd shot. LOL!

Single Pin spares were 100%. 10 for 10 overall, and 4 for 4 on 10 pins.

Multi pin spares I became the king of chopping wood. Chopped 3 off a 3-6, 10 off a 6-10, 2-4 off of a 2-4-5.

1 split a 3-10.

Good thing though, is other team was struggling pretty badly as well and we took 3 on the night.

Well my week 1 of league was a complete disaster. Thursday night later league I did horrible. My wrist was killing me and I could not keep my speed up to compensate for burned up lanes. I did end up with a good game, so there is that. Spare shooting with multi pins was not good at all.

170-157-166-215 = 708

YIKES!! Missed a 10 pin, 7 pin, chopped 3-6 off 3-6-10, chopped 10 off 6-10, chopped 2 off 2-5. Just absolutely ugly! Still needing to blow the cobwebs out.

No bowling this week. Heading out of town for the wifes birthday. San Francisco and driving down the Cali coast to San Diego.

After a week off, ended up not doing much better than the 1st week of league.

Started off pretty well with the front 5, then a 10 pin that I missed converting as the ball slipped off my thumb, few more single pin leaves mixed in with some strikes to finish out a nice 236.
Game 2 was trading 9 counts and strikes until got slow leaving 3-6-7-9-10, 4 pin, double, 2-4, strike, 2-8 and big four in fill for a 188.
Game 3 much of the same trading 9 counts and strikes, left greek church in 5th frame, 4-9 in 7th, bucket in 9th and struck out for a 191.

615 is fine by me as I am still dusting off the cobwebs. Wrist is hurting more than normal, thinking I might need to get a better wrist support than my neoprene one that I am currently wearing.
