Just learned a few minutes ago they are closing the doors at my home alley effective immediately. It's a sad day for my entire family as we all bowl there. I knew they were having problems but I didn't expect this to happen so soon and business seemed to be improving for them the last few weeks too little to late I guess. I have bowled at these lanes since I was 9 years old and have been friends with the owners and employees there for a long time. I'm not sure what is going to happen with the leagues yet. it is such a sad day.

I feel your pain!!!! It's a sad day indeed when ever a bowling lane closes,,, so many memories and fun times that won't happen again at those establishments... I mess my AMF that I bowled at a bunch!!

Yes that is sad news indeed is it a independently owned center
or one of the AMF bowlmor/bowless owned centers?

Maybe if it is a independently owned center someone with deep
pockets will come through and buy it and keep it open.

This seems to be the new trend now days it is like lets close down
all the bowling centers in the United States so no one will have a
thing to do anymore.

Independently owned center smaller 12 lane establishment originally opened back in the early 40's.

Wow another piece of history lost it's looking like the only way
we will be able to bowl anymore in the future is if you have a
game console like a Wii or PS4.

I just wish that I had deep pockets like Bill Gates or those other
rich guys/gals I'd go around buying up all of the bowling centers
that was in trouble and or closing down and keep them all open.

That is bad news. Our AMF closed before our leagues started. That is kind of bad to close after the leagues start. I am liking the new Brunswick house we bowl in now. Both of my bowling balls seem to work better here on the alleys.

hopefully someone else might buy the lanes and reopen them! If its for sale, advertise it on Crags list,,, put word out that a 12 lane bowling alley built in the 40s, established, is up for sale!!

Find out if they are interested in saleing it???? How much ect... GET THE WORD OUT BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!!!

Save an Alley!!!!

We had one that is near us that closed, and it just got reopened by a new owner, and it is honestly better. You never know what can happen. We never thought that the lanes closest to us would open again but it did and its better than before..

Get the word out man, and see if someone if interested in buying it. Even getting a group together to lease the building until you can find someone might be worth looking into.

COOL,,,, SAVE an alley.... Glad your re-opened!!! Even more cool that they put some money in it and made it even better!! If I thought I could have saved mine, but putting the word out I would have in A HEART BEAT!!

But it had a leasing clause that would not allow it to be used as a bowling alley, and frankly AMF wanted it closed so that we would all go 4 miles to NKC AMF.

Some of the bowlers did move to the NKC AMF, other went to various other lanes!

I will admit I bowl at a AMF lane also, but now that this place is open, I am gonna try and get in a league there and see how it goes.. I love the lanes, the atmosphere there, they have a very nice pool table (I like pool also).. And their drink prices are really good :)

That sucks. Where I bowl there's only 16 lanes, and it's only 15 minutes away . Otherwise, it's a long drive to whatever is left if they close.

The one close to the house has accepted an offer. Hasn't gone through, but if it does there's little chance it will remain an alley. Whilst open I'll still go for my 4-5 middle of the week games.

Well some of my teammates, staff at the lanes, and I decided to go close the place down properly brought a bottle of Makers Mark and threw some games. I have to say scores went down as the night went on I'm not sure why . The guy that owns the building came in as we were packing up and told us he has decided to keep the place open . So we will still have a place to bowl for a while anyway. So I have league to look forward too Friday night.

That is good news. Hopefully they can keep it open or find somebody to purchase before it closes.

Glad to hear they'll stay open for a bit... maybe he can find a buyer/investor and keep the place running.

That's what we are hoping for. Business has been improving just not quickly enough.

Glad you still have some place to bowl man. What is the next closest center to you?

Amyers
11-20-2014, 01:52 PM
This center is actually farther away from me than two other centers but I grew up bowling in this house. They also really treat us great there and over the years I have made genuine friendships with the owner and staff there. It's not so much that if it closed that I wouldn't have other decent centers to bowl at it would be the friends and relationships that would change.

The only constant is change. Hopefully your center will make it to seasons end, and beyond!

Tragic. ;/ I know the feeling. I used to bowl at this AMF alley when they had the 2 hour free bowling a few years ago, and a all you can bowl for $10 special. I miss that house, too. I bowled very well there a lot. ;/

Well for an update they have announced that my house will stay open through the season but that is it at the end of leagues it's over. In some ways a good thing I don't have to try and find a new house to finish my fall leagues out. In some ways it's bad because going back every week is going to be like ripping the scab off. They are also only going to be open in the evening on league nights so I am going to have to go to somewhere else to practice.

I am also loosing my coach and ball driller out of this not sure where I'm going to find a replacement for that.

Wow! That's really sad, man! I remember when I lost my first home bowling alley, where I had friends and familiarity. Not fun!
