View Full Version : Finally... an all-around arsenal

For many years now, I've changed my arsenal depending on which center, or which pattern I'm bowling. Without even thinking about it, I finally put together an arsenal that works for me wherever I am going to bowl. The balls are: Phaze II with a 3000 abralon finish with lane shine (I rarely refresh the 3000), Code Black with the OOB finish, Timeless with the OOB finish, and Fanatic BTU with a 3000 abralon finish. The only changes that I have to make now are slight surface changes depending on the weather and the pattern if it's a sport shot.

When I used to bowl a lot, being surrounded by 14 bowling centers in a 30-35 mile radius, I had to build an arsenal for the houses I bowled. I bowled 5.5 leagues a year (including summer) at 4 different houses. All four houses had their one house shot, one being the cheetah. Anyway, it was really hard at first. I kept switching balls in and out, to creating a set of bags to quickly grab and go.

The last year I bowled these leagues, I was able to come up with a four ball bag that worked for all houses. My average were within 10 pins and what a difference it makes to build a bag that works well. So big ups to you Rob to get it down and set with your arsenal.

Having a spinner is a must before the nex high end bowling ball in my opinion.

I've had a spinner for 12 years. I agree completely.

Rob, How did you lay each of these out? Since I'm only on THS, take the Hy-Road and Code Black with me everywhere. If I was purchase another ball, I think I'd like a Burgundy Hammer. Thanks...

They are all laid out very similar: approx. 60 X 4 3/4 X 40

That's sweet Rob. Spinner owner here too.

Curious, I would have thought the Code Black and Timeless were close to each other. How are they different for you? Or do you only throw the Timeless when you bowl 2 hand? Lol J/K. I know asym vs sym but similar layout I would have thought a bit of overlap on these 2.

Thanks for your input

Not only is the Code Black asymmetrical, it is also a much lower RG (2.51 vs. 2.57). The Timeless goes much longer down the lane than the Code Black. There is more to bowling balls than cover and surface! LOL

Could be wrong, but from what I've seen so far I believe the Timeless is a great step-down ball for most people who use a Code Black. Once the lane transitions a bit they go with the Timeless for more length.

A good observation since both use the same R2S cover material and the same OOB finish leaving the primary difference between them being the core specs (provided you use the same layout for both).

I think I finally have a great arsenal myself in Phaze II, Phaze, Street Fight, and Pitch Blue. I won a Timeless from Storm a few weeks ago and still waiting for them to ship it out. That should fit right into the arsenal between the Phaze II and Phaze. My phaze isn't as snappy as most.

Even a league bowler should have a spinner. I love mine. Use it all the time. I put together a 6-ball arsenal when I go to some house I don't know.

Looks like a great selection of balls to carry, I've watched a number of guys throw all those balls over the last couple of months and all of them look impressive.
One buddy just shot a 300, the 3rd time out using the timeless, needless to say he loves it ! If I didn't already have a Hy-road and an IQ 30th anniversary I would be ordering one !
Good Luck !

I'm definitely picking up a spinner within the next few months. I picked up a Motive Forza GT which has become the first ball out of my bag. I would love to add a second Forza GT with a 500/2000 abralon surface for heavier oil. Either that or stick with my Cell for heavier oil, and add a bit of surface.

It's fun changing the surface of a ball. I've bowled in heavy oil with my DV8 Ruckus Feud at 360 Abralon. I've changed a few balls to 4000 Abralon with polish on short sport patterns and had great nights. What's nice is to resurface a ball back to OOB specs and getting charged nothing.
