I'm getting ready for a mini road trip. My husband is off on vacation next week, so I have to follow him down into Chicago so we can drop his semi truck off at the terminal.

Then it's a full week of house hunting.

branstew
07-24-2009, 11:45 AM
Is Chicago far from you ? And good luck with the house hunting

Jord_84
07-25-2009, 08:13 PM
Chicago is about 1 hr South East from me. I'm in North Central Illinois right on the Illinois/Wisconsin stateline.
That was a road trip from hell. We were actually going to Joliet, which is a suburb of Chicago. It took us 2 hours to get down to Joliet to drop off the semi. Then, my hubby and I grabbed white castle for dinner....which later wreaked havoc on my stomach while we were stuck in rush hour traffic on I-90. We got off the highway in Hoffman Estates because the traffic was at a standstill, and as soon as we left the highway, traffic started moving again. So our stupid GPS took us on a bass ackwards detour down a 2 lane highway. About an hour from home....we got stuck in a crazy thunderstorm, we were looking for flying cows....because it was baaaad!

But I did have good luck with house hunting today. I found a HUD foreclosure for $45,000....we're looking at another house tomorrow afternoon before we decide whether or not to put in an offer on the HUD house.

branstew
07-27-2009, 10:30 AM
Hey that is good news with the house I will keep my fingers crossed for you. And that was some trip I hate it when the our moterway stops and you are stuck on it for hours which we have had a few times as at least a coupple of times a year we travel back to my home town in scotland a 600 mile trip that takes some 12 hours. At least iI have not had the flying cows ?????

Jord_84

we found a different house this morning that we liked, and we put in an offer on it. It's a nice 3 br 2 bath house with an attached 2 car garage. Foreclosure. The people who owned it before must have been bitter about losing their house....it looks like they smeared poop all over the walls and ceilings...ewwww! The carpets are horrible....they must have had a lot of dogs and cats that they didn't take care of.

Rip out and replace the carpets, scrub and paint the walls and some good overall cleaning and that house will be immaculate once again!

I hope we get it!

The HUD house was beautiful, but it needed some serious foundation work, the basement needed to be ripped up (moldy walls) and one bedroom was hardly big enough to be a walk in closet.

they flat out rejected our offer, saying it was too low. So we bumped up our offer by 5 grand. Then we got an answer back that another offer had come in...so the bank wanted us to submit our highest offer and they'd pick between us and the other offer.

Now we found another foreclosure for $49,900 and it's in great condition. So we left our offer for the other house at 80,000. If the bank takes it, then fine, if they don't we're going to put in an offer on the other house Saturday.

All in all, it's frustrating and I have a lingering headache

No wonder it is so fustrating trying to find somewhere we had all this when we moved from aberdeen to cheltenham. it seems to take an age then it picks up seed and you dont have time to think with packing an all. So I am thinking of you. just take it easy.

Jord_84

update time, the bank rejected our offer of 80,000 for the newer house...which we hoped they would. We got a call from the listing agent from the 49,900 foreclosure to let us know that another offer had been placed on that property. The agent wanted to see if we were interested and give us the opportunity to put in an offer as well. Not wanting to lose this house, we put in an offer of 55,000...5,100 more than the asking price. Hopefully our offer is more than the other one, and the bank will accept it. I don't want to lose out on another house, especially this one, the price can't be beat!

the gated community we're moving to is about 15 minutes outside of the town we currently live in. It's a change of scenery without having to go far from home, which is just what we needed. So I definitely plan to continue bowling. I've also found that they have "family dodgeball nights" at the rec center and volleyball leagues....so I'm going to see about getting my sister-in-law and her husband on our team for some stuff :D

and yes, we're on cloud nine. My kids kept telling me that they wanted to go to the new house NOW! and I cracked open a good bottle of wine and did some celebrating last night!

So is there a day and time for when this ends?

In the "other" thread, we affectionately call threads like these, "post whoring threads." Do you want to build your post counts up? Do you want to one day be cool, and have 50,000 posts? Here's a good place to get a couple in.

Conversations tend to randomly break out in a thread like this, and that's fine. Sometimes NOTHING breaks out, and that's fine too. Sometimes people type in things like, "ten characters" and that's fine as well. But the bottom line is: I've never heard of a board that doesn't have a limit to how many posts can be in a thread. True, it takes thousands of posts to reach the end, but that just means we better get to posting because:

THE LAST PERSON TO POST HERE WINS!!!

Jord_84
08-23-2009, 09:24 PM

Theoretically there is a post limit on a thread, but I've seen a couple of these threads on other boards w/40-50K posts on them. Seems we might have a distance to go.....

I can't do ice cream during the winter. I'm cold blooded. I'm perpetually cold. On any given winter day, I'm probably wearing 3-4 layers of shirts lol

I think my favorite thing to do with the kids during winter...is turn the kitchen into a cookie factory.
I bake, they're in charge of decorating. We'll turn out 5-6 dozen cookies and fill tins for friends and family.

My son bowls on a youth league. He placed 20th out of 148 at his first tournament last year and advanced to state.

My daughter , 2 years old, hasn't picked up a ball since she pinched a finger. I had her on a bumper league....but she hasn't shown any interest in bowling since that incident.

Graaille
08-27-2009, 03:15 PM
Both my kids like to go downstairs and roll the balls around. my 17 month old loves for me to spin balls like a top, my 3 year old loves for me to roll the balls to her and she'll pick them up and bring them back. It's impressive to me that a 32 pound girl can pick up and carry a 12 pound bowling ball a couple of dozen times before she's off to something else. She's tried the 15 pounders, but can't quite get them up yet - but the way she's going, I can see it by the end of the year.

I think my favorite thing to do with the kids during winter...is turn the kitchen into a cookie factory.
I bake, they're in charge of decorating. We'll turn out 5-6 dozen cookies and fill tins for friends and family.

I can see where that is coming from as long as you get to try the cookies when they are done but as I was born in the north east of Scotland I am use to the cold so it is outside building snowmen and haveing snowball fights, but not so much now as we now live in Tewkesbury in England there is not much snow around:(

Jord_84
08-28-2009, 07:24 AM
We get a decent amount of snow where I'm at. Which is nice....I like the snow.
But if it melted the week after Christmas, I could care less.

winter is too long for my liking. I prefer spring/fall.

branstew
08-28-2009, 05:19 PM
I dot belive you can mean that all those poor snowmen melting away. Could you live with thethought of all those poor snowmen

Jord_84
08-28-2009, 06:49 PM
Usually, the neighborhood kids smash our snowmen before they have a chance to melt.

branstew
08-29-2009, 05:47 PM
That it not nice at least here they get the chaince to melt on there own, at least your cookie factory makes up for the the breakage and i bet the cookies last less than the snowmen

Jord_84
08-29-2009, 08:31 PM
When I make cookies....I make them in bulk.

I still have cookies from last Christmas....fruitcake cookies....so that might explain why I still have them lol

branstew
08-30-2009, 09:24 AM
Wow now that is baking in bulk where do you keep them all you must fill the garage. I dont bake cakes any more as they always seem to flop. I surpose I should keep trying but it upsets me when they dont turn out right

Jord_84
08-31-2009, 01:08 PM
I've got a deep freezer. Their shelf life is extended quite a bit being stored in a deep freezer.

branstew
08-31-2009, 03:41 PM
I hope you defrost first, I just had a vision of your whole family with front teeth missing where they had eating your cookies
only kidding. I have a silly sence of fun

Jord_84
09-02-2009, 09:40 AM
eh, all the cookie talk got me wanting to bake.

We made oatmeal raisin cookies......but we also ate them in about 3 days.

branstew
09-02-2009, 10:16 AM
That is no good for me as I dont like oatmeal, mind eating them in three days you pig, mind you it is the same as I would do, I am bad at always going back for "just anothere one" till they are all gone, then I cry ?

Jord_84
09-02-2009, 10:49 AM
I promised my hubby oatmeal chocolate chip for him.
So I've got to bust out the "Neiman-Marcus" cookie recipe.
The Neiman-Marcus cookie recipe started as a chain letter about a scorned shopper who was charged $5,000 dollars to buy Neiman-Marcus' cookie recipe....and as her revenge....she shared it with as many people as possible.

Whether or not the story is true, I don't know. But I will say that the cookie recipe is AMAZING.
Best oatmeal chocolate chip cookie ever, hands down.

branstew
09-02-2009, 11:22 AM
I still would only have normal choc chip

Jord_84
09-02-2009, 12:14 PM
you'd be surprised. That particular recipe has you run the oats through a blender. The oats get ground up pretty fine...so the cookies don't have a chunky texture....but the oats add good flavor.

branstew
09-02-2009, 03:34 PM
Well if you put up the recipe then I may try to make some as I am sure my wife and grand kids would soon eat them if I dont like them.

Jord_84
09-02-2009, 04:11 PM
http://www.snopes.com/business/consumer/cookie.asp

I see Neiman Marcus actually released their cookie recipe as a response to the hoax email.
The Neiman Marcus recipe is different from the hoax recipe......but the hoax recipe was awesome. The link above is for the hoax recipe.

branstew
09-03-2009, 02:10 AM
Thanks I will try it this weekend so if you dont here from me again after the weekend you will know that I have tryed them, I will have to force myself to eat them as just the thought of oats makes me want to *** up.

Jord_84
09-03-2009, 08:01 AM
If you really hate oatmeal that much....then try the actual Neiman Marcus cookie recipe:
http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/service/nm_cookie_recipe.jhtml
this one doesn't call for oats, but rather, instant espresso coffee powder.

branstew
09-03-2009, 08:10 AM
Thanks yes I will try that one instead. I dont like oats as when I was growing up my mum was not the best of cooks and oats was not one of the best items she could cook with and we had to eat it or go without, I have touched it from then.

Jord_84
09-03-2009, 08:23 AM
ah......understandable. I've got a stigma with ramen noodles. We went through a poor period where we ate ramen almost exclusively for a few months. Never eaten them since.

branstew
09-03-2009, 08:25 AM
Well my dad fas a farm hand so were poor most of the time, I joined the RAF when I was 17 and tried to help out when I could

But it definitely teaches you to appreciate the things you have.

branstew
09-03-2009, 10:34 AM
That it does and hopefully pass on how lucky they are to the kids and grandkids

Jord_84
09-07-2009, 07:50 PM
the fruitcake cookies weren't that bad. would have been better if I'd used the candied maraschino cherries only....and not the assorted candied fruit.

the citrus and anise in the candied fruit gives the cookies a weird taste.

BowlnBrat
09-07-2009, 08:49 PM
