Earlier today I bowled on a burnt up Viper oil pattern and as per the norm, someone who's never bowled on it before struggled. That was me. But it's a regular thing nowadays. I go in to bowl, and I'm terrible. I average in the 160's which isn't that good but still. I have 1 bowling ball that's drilled for finger time and two that are drilled conventionally. To make a long story short, I don't know if it's the weight of the finger tip ball or just me being terrible, but I can no longer control that ball. I grab one of the two conventional gripped balls, and I do much better. I can't figure it out. I don't know if it's the fact that my reactive conventional is less aggressive or if it's because it's lighter. I just can't control it. What could I be doing wrong?
No Mercy - 15lb, finger tip (I think my span is off even though it was drilled to match my hand, and the pin is to far off from my fingers)
Rattler - 14lb, conventional
Viz-A-Ball - 14lb, conventional
Things I'm going to try:
1) Slowing down my release
2) No longer gonna mussel the ball
3) Gonna let my fingers cause the rotation
What I think is causing the problem:
1) Rushing my release
2) Trying to hook it instead of letting my grip due the work
3) Musseling the ball down the lane instead of letting the ball do the work
I'm trying to crank the ball. But here's the thing, after being called an asshole for throwing my Ultra Slip powder bag at my girlfriend and getting mad over it, I started heaving the ball (rattler) down the lane with higher revs and ball speed and I did much better. I can't figure it out. I'm gonna try and get in there next tuesday and wok on a fresh THS and see what happens.
Anyone have some tips? I'm starting to get frustrated over it.
