It has been about 3 years since I have been bowling, mainly because of scheduling and budget conflicts. But it looks like I will be able to start bowling on Tuesdays for a while. It's only going to be open bowling for the summer unless there is a league on Tuesday nights that hasn't started yet.
One thing that I am excited about is we moved to a city with a bowling alley. Since we moved to Florida 9 years ago, we have lived in rural areas and had to drive at least 45 minutes in order to bowl. Now we live about a mile away from one. I'm just hoping it is a decent house. The next closest one is about an hour away.

luckily Singapore's small.. for 1 hour of drive away I can go practically to the other side of the country to bowl.. haha.. from my house to the bowling alleys takes about 5 mins drive only.. but normally i take the bus..

Good luck and make the best of it. Our house is small (12 lanes) and super old but it's my second home.

I remember the days of manual scoring, with the overhead projectors. I also remember when Olympia lanes put in the first automatic scorers in our area. We went once, but it was too expensive to keep going there. I think it was 2.65 per game or something like that.

Those were fun days. You had to make sure the person sitting at the scoring table knew their math.

Back in the mid '80s we did not see 2.65 a game. Most games were 1.50 or less.

Kev, I am in Palatka. I'll be bowling at Putnam Lanes. I bowled in Gainesville for a couple of seasons a few years ago.

Well, 20 minutes of work left, then go home and eat and go bowling! First time in 3 years. My 7 year old daughter wants to bowl also, so we signed her up for the kids bowl free summer. She can get 2 games per day for free untill September 30. I'll probably add the family plan, which costs $25, but my wife and I will both be able to bowl 2 games per day free. I can only go once a week, and I'll probably bowl a third game each time. Even so, that will have those 2 games per week to about $1 or less per game. And if my wife bowls, it will go down even more.
On a side note, I've been dealing with a pinched nerve in my shoulder. The only time it really bothers me is when I am laying down. So there hasn't been much sleeping for me for about a week. I'm hoping that bowling will loosen it up. It's been feeling pretty good today, so we'll see.

Well, that sucked. I am further out of shape than I thought. I could not hit my mark. I could not get the ball far enough to the right. I was missing by about 15 boards. I had to turn my body in order to hit the mark. Also, the lane was bone dry. I was going to check my track in order to estimate where my PAP is. There was nothing on my ball.
Even if there was some oil on the lane, I'm not sure I was throwing consistent enough to have a track to find my PAP with. I was expecting to be rusty, but wow.
Oh yeah, my scores. I need to update the lowest score thread. My new low score is 60. My 7 year old beat me. I actually had a couple of spares in game 2, finishing with a 104. A 2 game series of 164. Wow. I have some work to do.

You will be surprised how quickly the rust will come off. I think we all have bad days, just makes me want to get out there more to put it behind me

I know it will. I was just surprised that there is so much rust. I'm just going to work on it this summer and join a league in the fall.

Rust, pinched nerve and dry lanes. That's a lot to try and overcome after such a long layoff. One thing that may have hindered you getting your ball out is the dry lanes. The ball probably started hooking to early and couldn't skid out towards the breakppoint. It can be real tough to gauge on super dry lanes.

The pinched nerve did not bother me at all. In fact, it feels better now than it has in weeks. I think you are right about the dry lanes. I've never seen lanes that dry before. The Maxim was hooking off the lane. Hopefully we will have better conditions next week.

Had a much better week. There was a hint of oil on the lanes, but not enough for the Tiger. I put it away after the first frame. It took a little while to find the pocket. I'm still having trouble hitting my mark, but I was much more consistent this week. My scores still weren't great (118 and 147), but a huge improvement over last week. My daughter also improved. I taught her a 4 step approach, and she is getting used to it. She scored a 69 and a 94. My wife got a 102 and a 99. I love our family fun night!

As long as everyone is having fun the improvements will come for all. Be careful, it won't be long before both your wife and daughter will be out scoring you.

She's a bowler too.. But she's playing the "Spinner / Helicopter" style instead.. she prefer that rather than hooking the ball.. and.. Nope.. she's only using a Brunswick T-Zone.. OF COURSE I CAN BEAT HER IN BOWLING!! HAHAHAHA!!
