thanks bud!!! It was a learning experience!

I have searched around and no luck! Maybe I need to purchase that 6 lane ally in Plattsburg so I can run the pattern myself!

If any of you out there know how to find a SPORTS PATTERN close to my area code, 64152, please let me know!!!

There seems to be NO INTEREST in SPORTS bowling around here, probably that was in most cities around the country. Everybody wants EASY, everything, TV dinners, Burger King, ect ect ect!!!!
It took me 3 tries to find one that lasted more than 1 week.

And that one happens WAY TOO FREAKIN EARLY IN THE MORNING.

If it wasn't for sport conditions, I'd never get a chance to throw a reactive resin ball.

Even on a 45 foot (Mexico) pattern I have to throw the ball so it appears it is going to miss the head pin, only to cross over brooklyn.

This last week I couldn't slide for crap in practice (I usually slide 5+ feet), so I decided to not slide at all.

This required a completely different approach.

Start much closer to the line, take small steps, then put next to no hand in the ball.

I did manage to shoot 602 for the first 3 (thanks to a 258 game) but couldn't manage 800 for 4.

If hooking the ball a bunch is my A game, then slow and straight is about my Z game.

WOW....45 foot pattern with 25 mls of oil and can't stay on the right side? That is some high rev rate you have there.

Default Now Iceman knows the truth about PLASTIC First Hand

ONE HUGE lesson learned for this experience on White.

LEARN to throw all your spares with plastic, or like Norm Dude, and ICEMAN, palm up, Straight balls, with NO hook end over end roll, in my case. I am seriously thinking Both plastic, and that release!

Sure I can pick the 7 pin up EVERYTIME on THS throwing a strike ball over 2nd arrow. and many other spares on the left side of the head pin, but with something like even the White and Blue the oil can and does play havoc with picking it up! I hear the U.S. open is a real bear-cat to try conventional spare pick-ups used on THS!

What I am going to do now after this learning experience is, GET A PLASTIC BALL, and use it for ALL,,,, ALL spares. It will pay off on down the road when I start doing more tournaments, or sports patterns, IF I CAN FIND or EVEN get a group interested in doing Sports Patterns?????

Do they make an ICEMAN spare ball...

My guess was based on the tendency of most house bowlers to take to long to adjust to any pattern that transitions differently from the house shot that they're used to. What usually happens is that they see the transition late for a low second game score, and then begin to make the correct adjustment for a higher third game score. Your pattern of declining scores tells me that you were relying on your "gift" and just muddeling through rather than getting out of your comfort zone. Your ability kept your scores from getting really bad, but your lack of making the correct adjustment kept your scores from going back up. The next time you bowl on one of these patterns, keep your eyes open as to adjustments that some of the less talented, but more experienced bowlers are making. Are they moving deeper? Are they balling down? Once you figure out that bowling on patterns involves constant attention to strategy, I'm sure you'll do just fine bowling on them.
Rob I agree with all of the ABOVE, and though I Don't even have close to you, YOUR knowledge and expertise, I did make adjustments, with my delivery, and balls. The score for the second two games really don't paint a clear picture of what happen.

SOME of my big mistakes were just being to damn excited, and needing to calm-down, and Focus on HITTING THAT DAMN mark, and not looking UP!!!!!!!!!!!! I do think with all the help I have received on this website, I will get even better, and reach that 210 level this fall! My averages are steadily climbing and I even feel more confident in my game now.

I have a guy that coaches Pat Henderson, giving me a LOT of advice, when we bowl together on Tuesdays. It's helping a bunch!! He is there every Tuesday, so its like getting a coaching lesson free, every week! We are both Army Vet's from the Vietnam era, and enjoy talking the good old days, and bowling!

I almost feel sorry for all you westerners, when you come to Plattsburg,,, its hard telling what NEW LEVEL I will be at in 8 months!! I will post my progress,,, I only hope that Aslan gets his act together!!!!
He had a GREAT DELEVERY,,,, looked smooth as silk from what I seen that day we practiced together, but his release off the hand looked limp,,,, to me! I might be all wrong, but something just didn't happen with the look of his ball off the hand. That's my 2 cents for what little it worth!

I want a little more competition when he comes out to play the Small Town Wood Lanes, this next year!

Hey Rob your good at gambling,,, win a bunch, put it in the bank and save it for Mike, Aslan, and Yourself to fly out and show your goods to some old Farm Boys, out here that think they just might be good enough to whip up some strikes on you Surfer/City boys!! LOL

The great thing about this tournament is: We will vote on which pattern we want, and Lee, or Chris will put it down fresh!! ICE is open to white pattern... I know more about it now, and how to play it. I kid a lot, but I was just a few senior moments away form a nice series!
