Anyone had an issues with misplaced weight blocks in Hammer balls?

I bought a 13# Hammer First Blood from an online vendor as opposed to buying it from my pro shop. When the Ball came in I took it to my Pro Shop to have it drilled. When the gentleman that dose all my drilling put it on the scale he said "Jessie there is a problem with this ball" the ball set top side up showed a side weight of 1.75 ounces instead of the 1.75 once top weight that it should have had. He told me either the weight block was in the wrong place or they stamped the ball label in the wrong spot. He said if he got this ball in to his shop it would be returned to the supplier for a replacement. I asked Rob to take his best guess. Well to make a long story short the ball is a perfect straight roller it won't turn to save my life no matter how much hand I put into it. So I have a 200 dollar spare ball!! I called hammer and they asked me to return it to QA and when they find an issue they will send me a new ball. Moral of the story, I learned a new lesson.... ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR PRO SHOP OPERATOR.

I bought a Storm ball a long time ago that had a bad weight block. Storm replaced the ball with a new one after I sent the wonky ball back and they tested it.

My Mom had a bad Ebonite Vortex V2 Pearl years ago. The weight block was all out of whack and the ball wouldn't move a board. We tried changing finger weight, side weight, surfaces, etc. Ball always went straight regardless.

I had a Brunswick Danger Zone D2Z that I purchased via mail order when they first came out (before the proliferation of online retailers.) When the pro shop put it on the scale, they determined the CG was mismarked and was way off of the factory mark. They marked the proper CG location and drilled accordingly. Ball worked perfectly.

I have found The cg's on many balls miss marked over the years. Most times it is only a slight amount (less than 1/4") but I have seen some off as much as 2-3". As a PSO I scale every ball and find the cg before drilling. If it's off you can remark it and 99 out of 100 times the ball rolls just fine. This is most common on eBay and discount online stores

Most likely what you got is a 2nd. Like Stormed1 said it's common on eBay and discount online stores to send out 2nds and not 1st quality balls, you have look close at the fine print and even then you have to look out.

I got it from the bowling Store.com through Amazon. I learned a big lesson. I will now only order through my PSO. He is drilling me a Storm Ride for Saturday. I was not aware that a PSO actually orders balls by pin length as well as weight. Hammer said they will let me know next week what they are going to do for me but I already am going to take the suggestion of my PSO. He suggested that my bowling speed and rev rate would be best served by Brunswick or Strom products.

Sometimes very short or long pin distances or out of ordinary top weights. Other times it may just be something cosmetic with the ball.

Depending on company it could be marked on the ball and/or the packaging.

You could see X-comp, X-blem, Pro-cg, pro-pin, Blem, a "X" or a "C" next to the serial number (Storm), printed on the label and/or stamped on the ball.

Bonanza and Hurricanes balls are usually 2nds of name balls.

The better online companies tell you, but the only sure why is to see a ball and inspect it yourself (pretty impossible online).

That would make sense. The pin on that First Blood said 4-5 inches...much clearer why the ball would not make its change of direction at the break point.

surprise surprise ...Hammer is sending back the First Blood I sent them. They say it's QA is fine. I said well you see nothing wrong with selling a 5 inch pin as a first class ball? I won't need a spare ball now just gut one a hammer first blood that rolls perfectly straight. Told her that was the last EBI ball I buy.
