When I'm at home and practice on my timing/approach without ball I notice it's very fluid. Timing seems good and I'm not forcing the hand from back swing.
When I actually bowl I notice I speed up a bit and force the ball from the back swing instead of letting it fall naturally. Just have to tell myself to slow down (especially first step). Otherwise timing is off and I tug the ball.
Short version: Don't muscle back swing
You can muscle the backswing...as long as you have the rare ability to completely remove the muscle tension at the top before the down swing starts. A lot of pro have a semi-muscled swing and it's one reason they can get the higher ball speed/back swing they attain.

Two thoughts on the downswing you want to remember: (1) Think wait.... on the downswing helps to not muscle it. (2) You have to think accelerate at the bottom through release to create power on your shot. The process of not pulling down, waiting on the ball, and trying to accelerate through the shot is what creates a longer flat spot at the bottom and through the end of your arm swing/release.
I always force my shot down. I have lots to work on as well. When I get lose like it should be I get more hook must my aim feels off so I'll need to work on that part of my game. Good luck in your practice.
