I can't say for sure without seeing it...but it sounds like it's dying before it ever hits the pocket. I think the polished surface has worn off and you're still trying to throw it way out in the dry. Are you noticing any deflection after it contacts the pocket?

It is deflecting more than it used to but I don't see the ball 'straighten out' so to speak. But I completely resurfaced it last night so will see if that helps
