    Default Dead Coverstock?

Tonight in league, I left THREE flat pocket 8 pins and one flat pocket 8-10 split (with a 16 lb ball!).. No, not a flush, solid, 8 pin leave, but a ball that is right in the pocket (that I suppose is hitting flat) leaving an 8 pin or 8-10 split. My DV8 Too Reckless NEVER used to do this, yet, over the last week or two, I'm seeing this flat 8 pin and flat 8-10 split leave. Now, I've got to wonder, with a guy who throws a 16 lb ball 20+ MPH with as many revs as I have, is my coverstock dying and could this be a sign of it!? Or is this just a fluke that is occurring more than it should?

(Could have been an 800 series tonight if it weren't for those weird hits. 769 instead.)

try de-oiling the ball than try again? see if it's the coverstock thats absorbing too much oil already.

Like eugene said, give the ball a deep cleaning in some warm soapy water, if that doesn't get the reaction back to what you want, you could try to duplicate the finishing steps on the ball to get it back to out of box condition

    Finishing Steps
500 Siaair Micro Pad; Rough Buff; High Gloss Polish

Given that you were shooting that well, I doubt it's a dead coverstock. 8 pin leaves usually mean the 5 pin is getting drove straight back.

So try a slight angle change.

Not to say cleaning or freshening the coverstock won't help or hurt.

I agree with Bowl. Clean that darn ball anyway. The amount you bowl I'm sure it's been 50+ games already.

Also keep in mind that the people you are playing with can have an effect on your reaction. If they are throwing more agressive balls it can take the oil off the heads and cause the ball to loose energy too soon and hit "flat". after giving your ball a good cleaning if that doesn'y help try changing entry angles as bowl1820 said

it certainly doesn't hurt to clean the ball. and if your doing it yourself with dawn and a bucket, it's not gonna really cost your anything either

Wow I was just about to ask almost the same question. I got called in to sub last night and the third game if it wasn't a strike it was a 8-10 pocket split. I was moving all around trying different lines to stop it, but just couldn't find a decent line. I never thought about getting a good deep cleaning on the ball to solve the issue.
